Sony Ericsson UK have officially confirmed with us this morning that the Xperia X10 family (including the X8) will not see an Android firmware revision above 2.1 (Éclair). Whilst the company’s new line of Xperia phones will launch with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), the X10 will not be supported past Android 2.1. The company instead plans to release smaller updates (like the multitouch upgrade) that will come in the next few months.

Sony Ericsson confirmed that the new handsets have a lighter SE skin and that its own modifications (including Timescape, Mediascape) have been decoupled to ensure that updates will be much more timely compared to what current Xperia X10 and X10 mini owners have had to endure. The current software builds of the X10 family are not built this way, which means Android 2.1 is the last version that will be supported.

Same. Motorola Atrix + laptop dock for me too, although the Xperia arc is gorgeous, I have no intentions of supporting this stupid company for this generation of Android phones at least. Too much!

i'm very dissapointed with SE..W660i to W705 then X10i..this makes me sick!

same here... 1-2 years is my normal phone cycle before i decide to upgrade...

x10 in XDA like not very popular =( their development just like official SE, Custom 2.2 haven't done, in other hand, 2.3 released. Kinda sad with my Rachael, she having the make-up all the time,looks sexy but actually she got the old stuff inside T_T I'm gonna sell her off.

Hi guys..will this news make the X10 price drop? Is it worth to buy X10 Midlands set with 2 years of waranty for RM 1550 ? May i know how is the realibility for X10..do i need to bough another year of mobile insurance for it?

And they cited 'hardware problems' as the reason after trying to blame Android. Great to know that our hardware is 'inferior' to Wildfire and Legend

Well as soon the atrix come out I am going to buy that. Was thinking to get Arc but since SE broke my heart. I am blacklisting them now.

when i bought it, its kinda like a cut-off part of my flesh...
now SE announcement just said "Haha u bought a crap"

Sexy hardware but not so good OS....

but still, i'd get my hands on an ARC anytime if i have the money...
looks comes first for me... then price.... OS?? as long as it can do those standard smartphone features, im all set.... the top notch features are for bragging rights only, i dont really use it daily....
