The fan will only spinning fast when the gt-540 graphic card is in use.

Thanks for the reply. I'm worry because some of the users (as seen above) said that the will spin fast and slow even he was not opening any programs. sweat.gif So, the volume of the fan will not be noticeable for daly use such as web surfing and word processing.

based on my personal experience, at max rpm the fan sound is as loud as most other laptop. Which is quite normal to me.
But while surfing the web(light task), after a while the fan spin at an annoying rhythm. Thats the only thing thats bothering me in the middle of the night while surfing the web. During day time or at noisy place, its less noticeeable.

Did you try to contact Dell about this matter? I saw several vids on YouTube complaining this matter too. The vids are at the previous page.

I though the Nvidia GPU comes with Optimus tech which can determine itself which programs will utilize more graphics power. However, it is kinda ridiculous if the fan starts to speed up by surfing the Facebook only? hmm.gif

my laptop fan is constantly spinning all day long even when no programs are on. my temps are averaging at about 60-70c during daytime even when i'm only using iTunes and MSN.
it's kinda bugging me because my temps were between 48-55c during the first few months of getting the laptop.
but now, the average temps are constantly going up and up

i've already disassembled and cleaned up the fan and heatsink before quite awhile ago but the temps still keep rising month after month..
EDIT: i'm thinking of re-applying the thermal paste once again even though i did so before last time. i feel like i might've not put enough thermal paste onto the CPU/GPU

i only put a thin film of thermal paste last time. i'm pretty sure the temps are rising not because of the vents because i've cleaned them before...
kinda frustrated now.. the rising temps are annoying me ):

my CPU usage is usually only 1-5% when i'm trying to get an average temp.
and using HWmonitor, my GPU temperature is always around 63-67c even though the only program i have open is msn.
