Hi, I have a Holland Lop female rabbit, she is almost 11 months, her usual water intake is about 200-250ml but recently drinks above 400ml, could it be because she is currently molting? I also notice she spend so much time eating hay like 30minutes non stop. I am worried she might have been sick or smtg.. thanks in advance for some insights..

Hi Guys.
I'm new to pet rabit and hoping for some advice. My brother just receive a young rabbit from his boss 3 days ago, which before this his boss keeps the rabbit for a long time in cage. One thing that surprise me about this rabbit is, it has horn sticking out on top of his nose Picture here : http://1drv.ms/NevQqI As I search around the net, this is the only clue that I have; http://www.asiahomes.com/singaporetpvet/ra...t_Singapore.htm but comparing to the rabbit inside the article, the rabbit that I have now only have horn & some hair loss at the hind feet and tail, and just very few crust at the tip of its ears. From my observation of it's habit: -he rarely scratch his nose -he eat a lot, poops a lot too (I believe its normal). I feed him grass, a lot of green vegies and carrot once a day. -quite active. usually I take it out of the cage about 1 hour before going to work in morning and let it out again after work. during that time he's hoping around the front of my house. so I take it the rabbit still healthy but I'm afraid it going to get worse and I never have any experience with vets before. I need advice on which vets to go for nearby Puchong (the one on the front page was last edited 2010) and how much should I expect for a treatment Any advice on daily care are welcomed too. Many thanks |

Just adopted a holland lop. His skin is not looking good. Areas of matted fur n some alr infected. One of his front leg looks hurt. Broght him to the vet. It seems he has skin infection due to the matted hair which has been pulled out of the roots and his front leg is broken and has healed itself. So he will have a limp.
Ive 2 baby rabbits of diff breed. Is it ok to mix them? Im scared they will gaduh. Plus, any supplements for the lops fur? Special food maybe? Currently feeding him britter bunny n timothy hay (he doesnt eat alot. Unlike the baby rabbits..Hmm) and daily green vege n occationally carrots. The vet shaved some of his fur off. So he looks very kesian now. |

I've not have any experience with broken bones before, so I really cannot comment on that.Ive 2 baby rabbits of diff breed. So he looks very kesian now. on the skin infection, useful things to keep around are: - saline solution. get the big bottle of contact lens liquid from tesco. quite cheap. this is useful for cleaning the skin, and also for softening up matted fur. also very useful for cleaning the areas around their eyes. useful for cleaning any wounds too. saline solution is not as painful as cleaning with water, and this is personal experience from cleaning my own cuts and scratches - cotton balls for cleaning. ie. wet the cotton ball with the saline solution. the vet should have given you some antibiotic cream for the skin infection right? make sure to use that fur shaved off can grow back wan, so don't worry about that. most important of all right now is to handle the skin infection first. for the food, you can try some better quality food. fur condition will improve a lot with a better diet. but control the amount of greens and carrots though. you can probably add in some rolled oats into the diet too. rabbits of a different breeds getting along, it really depends on how you bond them. if both are males then its more difficult (fighting to see who's the boss) unless you neuter them. |

QUOTE(tckuan8686 @ Feb 28 2014, 11:10 PM) I have met few rabbit doesnt eat or barely eat, check this out: http://www.oxbowanimalhealth.com/vets/products/critical_carei feel the stomach not good , but drink alot water , the water is become like medicine , it probably eat hay abit and no eat pellet anymore. that water very important , during the time is very important to put bowl because it might not reach the bottle. one of my rabbit diearhea b4 and it stop pellet , lucky i got hay it really eat hay only and it recovered , the hay and water really save the live this can be a huge live saver when your rabbit has stopped eating due to health conditions such as diarrhoea. comes in a powder form which you mix with water and hand feed to them. |

Many thanks - hair loss - crusts forming on skin it *may* be a case of mange infection. basically caused by parasitic microscopic insects infesting their skin. the crust that forms is the waste material produced over time by the mites. try spreading the fur on the nose area, and see if there's any buildup of crust there or not. nose, legs and ears are common areas for mange infection to start at more information here, along with another vet in Puchong that you can look at: https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=66359549 |
