1) don't jump into conclusions about your mother unless you find out for sure
2) stop buying anymore rabbits until you find out what actually happened.

enough said.

I thought neutering will make rabbit more sociable and allow them to live longer live? Is it will put their life at risk?
*
its a common enough procedure, but like any surgical procedures, there's always a risk.

for a rabbit, the main risk is similar to all small sized animals. their small size makes it difficult to determine the proper dosage of anaesthetic needed.

so make sure to find a vet who's familiar with small animals. you can try this vet over at Bandar Puteri Puchong

Pusat Perubatan Veterinar,
No 12, Persiaran Puteri 1,

anything different with the colour of the pee? like did it turn a darker colour or more reddish colour or something? if not then likely nothing to worry about. have you checked the water intake? is it more than before?

Help! My bunny has some skin disorders. It's like her ears are rotting. Not sure what happened. Can someone help cure her?
I will upload the picture later. I'm busy working and really no time to treat them now. I am asking help from fellow rabbit lovers if anyone would like to help me take care and cure them. I will bear all cost of their food and medication.

If you have bonded with them and would like to keep them later I'll be happy to let them go to a better owner. It's up to you if you would like to keep them or return to me later.

I'm seriously begging for help now.

is that loss of fur on the ears and the nose that I see on the orange colour one? And possibly near the paws of the white one too? and there's some kinda crusty white brown material building up on the nose and the ears?

if yes then that's mange. serious but common enough that it can be easily treated. diagnosis is done by taking a skin sample of the effected area to examine under a microscope for signs of microscopic mites.

The normal treatment is weekly injections of ivermectin either 2 or 3 times depending on how serious the infection is. you'll need to bring both rabbits there at the same time. and give the cage a good cleanup too.

This is also the sad thing about a lot of large pet shops that has rabbits. infection rate for rabbits from those shops can be rather high. and when a rabbit is infected, they tend to just quarantine them, hoping that they'll recover on their own, of which they won't recover without medication.

Another vet you can look at is https://www.facebook.com/pages/Pusat-Peruba...194204273962293

they specialise in small animals (of which a lot of vets do not have experience with, as most vets here largely have experience with either cats or dogs). they're pretty good, did a tumour removal surgery on a dwarf hamster for me before

Thank you very much for all your advice and opinions. I came back from work today and clean up the entire cage with clorox. I think it need some disinfecting. Was planning to place the rabbits in a dry, unused bathroom. I will bring them to see a vet this coming saturday. Have anyone heard of Dr Tan Ong Leong from City Pets at Seri Kembangan? I live near there and am planning to bring them there. I called the Dr today and he said he does treat rabbits.

I also use some dettol on cotton and used them to wipe the feets and ears. I hope they don't die from me doing that  tongue.gif

I noticed they poo a lot. Really a lot! Is that normal?

I hope to be able to treat them and let them grow up healthy. I will post progress over here.
*
never used dettol on my rabbits before, but don't think it'll help with this. what they really need is the ivermectin injection from the vet. but what that would help is, the areas especially on the ears where the crust like material is the thickest? rub some olive oil into those spots. that'll help to soften the crust. this has 2 effects:
- when the crust that is stuck to the skin gets thick enough, it may split the skin. think of it as a huge scab on your skin at places like your elbow or knees where the skin flexes whenever you move. softening the crust will help prevent that
- it'll also help the crust come off easier as the ivermectin takes effect and starts killing the mites.

and yes, pooing a lot is normal for rabbits.

Just adopted a holland lop. His skin is not looking good. Areas of matted fur n some alr infected. One of his front leg looks hurt. Broght him to the vet. It seems he has skin infection due to the matted hair which has been pulled out of the roots and his front leg is broken and has healed itself. So he will have a limp.
Ive 2 baby rabbits of diff breed. Is it ok to mix them? Im scared they will gaduh.
Plus, any supplements for the lops fur? Special food maybe? Currently feeding him britter bunny n timothy hay (he doesnt eat alot. Unlike the baby rabbits..Hmm) and daily green vege n occationally carrots. The vet shaved some of his fur off. So he looks very kesian now. sad.gif
*
I've not have any experience with broken bones before, so I really cannot comment on that.

on the skin infection, useful things to keep around are:
- saline solution. get the big bottle of contact lens liquid from tesco. quite cheap. this is useful for cleaning the skin, and also for softening up matted fur. also very useful for cleaning the areas around their eyes. useful for cleaning any wounds too. saline solution is not as painful as cleaning with water, and this is personal experience from cleaning my own cuts and scratches tongue.gif
- cotton balls for cleaning. ie. wet the cotton ball with the saline solution.

the vet should have given you some antibiotic cream for the skin infection right? make sure to use that

fur shaved off can grow back wan, so don't worry about that. most important of all right now is to handle the skin infection first.

for the food, you can try some better quality food. fur condition will improve a lot with a better diet. but control the amount of greens and carrots though. you can probably add in some rolled oats into the diet too.

rabbits of a different breeds getting along, it really depends on how you bond them. if both are males then its more difficult (fighting to see who's the boss) unless you neuter them.

check this out: http://www.oxbowanimalhealth.com/vets/products/critical_care

this can be a huge live saver when your rabbit has stopped eating due to health conditions such as diarrhoea. comes in a powder form which you mix with water and hand feed to them.

Hi Guys.

I'm new to pet rabit and hoping for some advice. My brother just receive a young rabbit from his boss 3 days ago, which before this his boss keeps the rabbit for a long time in cage. One thing that surprise me about this rabbit is, it has horn sticking out on top of his nose

Picture here : http://1drv.ms/NevQqI

As I search around the net, this is the only clue that I have; http://www.asiahomes.com/singaporetpvet/ra...t_Singapore.htm
but comparing to the rabbit inside the article, the rabbit that I have now only have horn & some hair loss at the hind feet and tail, and just very few crust at the tip of its ears.

From my observation of it's habit:
-he rarely scratch his nose
-he eat a lot, poops a lot too (I believe its normal). I feed him grass, a lot of green vegies and carrot once a day.
-quite active. usually I take it out of the cage about 1 hour before going to work in morning and let it out again after work. during that time he's hoping around the front of my house.
so I take it the rabbit still healthy but I'm afraid it going to get worse and I never have any experience with vets before.
I need advice on which vets to go for nearby Puchong (the one on the front page was last edited 2010) and how much should I expect for a treatment  icon_question.gif
Any advice on daily care are welcomed too.

Many thanks  smile.gif

I can't really make out the 'horn' on the nose from your photo. but from the symptoms that you described:
- hair loss
- crusts forming on skin

it *may* be a case of mange infection. basically caused by parasitic microscopic insects infesting their skin. the crust that forms is the waste material produced over time by the mites. try spreading the fur on the nose area, and see if there's any buildup of crust there or not. nose, legs and ears are common areas for mange infection to start at

more information here, along with another vet in Puchong that you can look at: https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=66359549

I have a one year old holland lop who suddenly refused to eat this morning from 10am.. last seen her eating was at 10-11pm. Took her to a vet at 12pm at taman megah, pj and until now she hasnt eaten or drank anything.. I try to force feed critical care, only managed half a teaspoon.. dr said she is probably constipated or having digestive issue so she gave some probotics and multi-vit .. sad.gif i am too worried, should I take her to another vet tomorrow? I heard that bunny that  do not eat in 24 hours would suffer bad consequence..

the largest I've seen here with my own eyes are the English Lops. don't think they're being sold as pets yet, as the ones I've seen are imported.

Now she is eating normal and running around, poop still small but refuses to drink any water ever since she started eating again. I tried to force feed liquid like 5-6ml 2-3 times in 16hrs because she didn't drink any (i only got 1ml syringe from vet and scared if give too much it may go to her lungs). No idea why she is not drinking but eating so much hay! Previously she drank water with multi vitamin, I assume later she refuse to drink because of the smell because she smell the tip of the bottle a few times, so I wash and replace with fresh water but to no avail. Any idea?
*
ok good that she's eating again. the reason why I asked if she's moulting is cause it may be a case where she has ingested too much of her own fur while grooming herself and thus causing a fur ball in the stomach.

on the force feeding water with a syringe, the way to do it is to stick the syringe in from the side of their mouth onto their tongue, and that'll cause a reflex swallowing action which then you can slowly feed water to her.

the other thing that you can try for now is maybe to switch to a water bowl and see how she takes to it.

where is the main rabbit farm in malaysia?
the 1 that breed & sell almost every breed of rabbit that there is..

i heard there is 1 in semenyih.
but is it Rabbit Funland Park??
its look more like a park than farm..
*
I don't think there's any particular 'main' rabbit farm in Malaysia.

the one in Semenyih (opposite the Broga Hills) is that park thingy. there's those places that breeds rabbits for meat but I don't think you're looking for those.

apart from that, there's various breeders around that only breeds pet rabbits, which are mainly the smaller dwarf breeds.

Is there any harm in breeding rabbit at less than 4 months age?

Recently i bring back a female rabbit 5 weeks old into my house.
After few mins, i noticed that my 8 months male rabbit is already on top of her! Ready to shake his "thing"  shocking.gif

its not a good idea. likely to end up with a lot of dead babies. for that matter, unless you're into rabbit breeding, don't let them breed too.

well, the obvious that can be seen is loss of fur on the feet right? apart from that what else can you describe? can you provide more details such as:
- what else do you see on the feet? is it just fur loss? or are there any crusts forming on the fur loss area as well?
- the condition of the skin at that spot?
- the living conditions of the rabbit. where does your rabbit spend most of the time at. how's the cage like.

more information would be useful

First thing is, make sure to get your rabbit from a reputable sources. If you visit a pet store, do your research first and make sure to ask the staff questions on the rabbit, to ensure that they know what they're talking about.

the most common dwarf breeds here are the Holland Lop, Dwarf Hotot and Netherland Dwarfs. You can google up the photos of them to compare.

like what suadrif mentioned, Holland Lops tends to be the most relaxed of the 3 breeds and is likely the easiest to handle, but this is just in general. at the end of the day it still depends on the individual character of each rabbit too. these 3 r all short haired rabbits, which is probably easier for a beginner to handle. but do take note that when they molt, they can really shed fur like crazy too.

Now, for the colour that you're looking at, white is the least common that I've seen of the holland lop (although they do exist). its far easier to find white Netherland Dwarfs, and Dwarf Hotots are always white in colour (although Dwarf Hotots are quite rare recently here)
