QUOTE(janeration7 @ Oct 8 2011, 11:29 PM) hi, can someone answer my question? 1) Sometimes yes.working in one of the big 4's branches, is it the same as working in the same firm's HQ? what are the comparisons in terms of: 1) Prestige (in other words, if i were to look for a job in the future, will the HQ hold more weight than the other branches, or is it the same as long as the firm's name and brand is there) 2) Workload (i know for a fact the branches will have smaller jobs, but will the workload and stress be as taxing? is there a huge difference in exposure and will that impact my resume in the future?) 3) Salary (will the branches pay less than the HQ?) thanks! 2) In some branches, the client base is small but so is the workforce. So eventhough the cilents are not as large, your staff size also won't be as large, so I think the workload could very well be similar in terms of stress. Exposure-wise, I would say yes. 3) Yes there is a salary discrepancy |

Hi,
This forum is so useful! Anyway, is anyone working in the IT Audit line in big4 now? Or specifically PWC's SPA department? How transferable are the skills? What kind of department/position that u can work in after leaving the big4? How much accounting/audit knowledge is used? I thought abt going ahead with this line since Im just a fresh grad and experience is good but am unsure how this wud impact future job seeking. Eg what if less accounting knowledge is used = not strong acct technical skills = cannot seek an accounting related position (if i decide not to continue in IT audit line)?? Not sure if a professional cert wud help like acca or cpa cuz isnt practice in work place the way to building strong technical skills? @_@ Helps! |

How transferable are the auditing skills for management consulting?
Would really like to get into strategy consulting one day and found out that there isn't much strategy firms out there. I am currently trying out the entry levels for every consulting firms that I can find, but I really doubt my chances, particularly in the bulge bracket. For management consulting I believe auditing does help, but would operational audit help more or is it the same with financial auditing? Would I be able to claim ACCA membership working in the same area? |

QUOTE(s t a c y @ Oct 6 2011, 11:11 PM) Hi, I'm planning to apply for advisory job in big 4. Which co is the best in terms of exposure and opportunity? Noone can help for this? I have 2+ years of working experience - 1 year in a small commercial firm and 1+ year in shared service center. Do I go into big 4 as a fresh grad or experienced worker? And may I know how much is the pay now? |

QUOTE(aladdin88 @ Oct 10 2011, 05:25 PM) I see. You should call them up if they dont reply you after 2 weeks. Seeing your situation, you are at a disadvantage as if you do join KPMG in November onwards, you will most likely miss out on the June promotion period (exception is you being fast-tracked) and will only be due next December. The cut-off joining date is October for June promotion. You need to be a minimum of 9 months in the firm in order to be eligible for normal promotion. Fast track is for superstar performers. |

Right now, it's relatively comparable, except for PwC which is lower than the rest in terms of basic salary for the average performer.

QUOTE(Nomad_mercenary @ Oct 8 2011, 07:47 PM) PwC Advisory definitely hiring, though I'm not sure whether associate levels are still open. Thanks! I've emailed them about it already. But still haven't received a reply. I'm really curious about what's going on right now. It would be nice to at least be told what has happened to my application. :/Shouldn't be a problem in asking about your application status, shows initiative on your part in my opinion. Goodluck! |

Haih. Manager just conveniently told me that they are going to burn 2 weeks of my AL.
My previous manager verbally agreed beforehand to let me use 1 week, and at the middle of the project said that he couldn't let me go due to the extended deadline. And my next project begins immediately after the first one ends, which is also another tight deadline project that will end in January. There goes two weeks of AL, and one week of TOIL which I got while working over Hari Raya + Merdeka hols. Lesson learnt. Your managers can be like two headed snakes........ QUOTE(YH90 @ Oct 10 2011, 05:13 PM) How transferable are the auditing skills for management consulting? Got a lot of auditing skills but I think should be DEALING and ANALYSIS. You need to be good in networking and capable to talk to different people. Auditors normally interview finance managers or at best CFOs. But consultants can range from CEOs to Datuks. Analysis skills is to help back up your communication skills. Cannot simply talk crap right ?Would really like to get into strategy consulting one day and found out that there isn't much strategy firms out there. Would I be able to claim ACCA membership working in the same area? Not a lot, but the goods ones are not easy to get into like Bain, BCG, McKinsey,.....etc. Can wiki them I guess. I heard their junior paid in USD. Its like triple compared to auditors. Acca membership I dont think consultant will help, cos its either finance, law or business related, hardly about accounting. I think it will be at much slower rate though. I never heard a management consultant company with ACCA recognition. If you really want a good qualification, think of MBA. Actually comes to consulting, what they really want is jack of all trades rather than speciallist. Accountant / auditor strikes me more to speciallist type. Of course its just a general stereotype as everyone will not subject to similar treatment. Added on October 17, 2011, 12:15 am QUOTE(kyosukekisaragi @ Oct 16 2011, 03:09 PM) Haih. Of course its just a general stereotype as everyone will not subject to similar treatment. I understand that Big4 prefers their employees to go for 1-2 years of auditing experience before applying for their advisory arm. Wouldn't it a little waste if dealing and analysis is all that is transferable when you have put at least an additional 1 year into auditing, especially when those from elite UK schools gets straight into advisory as fresh grads? I'm really interested in consulting, wouldn't mind putting my ACCA membership on hold if I do get into consulting, not just MBB, but even the Big4 would be suffice. I will consider an MBA after 3-5 years of working if I get into my choice of school. |
