How's all the other firms coming along in terms of staffing? PwC Assurance is suffering massive staff shortages presently, with all the resignees timing their resignation just before the superpeak starts.
*
How short is your shortage? I thought due to the Singapore pull factor, the firm will be doing massive recruitment of new staff

QUOTE(jmcsm @ Dec 10 2010, 03:18 PM)
Does anyone know what type of health issues KPMG is looking out for from the pre-emplyment health screening? What would make them not offer you the job?
*
They just want to see whether your BMI fits the 'acceptable' criteria and also see whether your have the physical power to work late everyday tongue.gif

Jokes aside, severe cases such as being colour blind, partial disability in limbs could hinder your chances of joining the firm.

It's been a year eh. Scary. still remember I had a stocktake in Klang on new year's eve. Half day though. biggrin.gif
*
The thin line between joy and despair. Stocktake on 31 dec = half day, can go celebrate countdown. Stocktake on 1 Jan = Wake up early, most probably can't countdown and keep thinking "why am I doing here in a rundown warehouse while others are still drooling in their sleep" sweat.gif

Interestingly, I heard fresh new joiners are getting close to 3k in EY/KPMG. Anyone can confirm these hearsays?
*
More than 2450, less than 3k in KPMG for freshies. Can only confirm final figures once payslip is out but definitely there is a revision of salary starting 2011. PwC didn't revise is it?

Hmm fresh grad with acca would be 2850 in kp.. Their pay revision for all levels seems to be quite a jump xd. With the additional allowance for jan-apr..hey, peak might not be too bad afterall with the monetary incentive;).. But o well, i guess its compensation for the lower bonus we get:|
*
Bet that e-audit allowance is a reclass from our bonus doh.gif

QUOTE(CKJMark @ Feb 21 2011, 11:28 AM)
Heh, I share your pain Thanatos.  Seems a lot of juniors these days need "extra" guidance.  Even in commercial it can be a nightmare.

And to newbies, don't take it the wrong way.  Yes, we are here to guide you on the job.  But we also appreciate it when you exercise common sense and initiative in learning without being taught.  It's a give and take thing.

I don't think I can stress this enough:  You are out of school, the spoonfeeding stops.

We are here to correct your mistakes, not take you by the hand and guide you step-by-step.  If you cannot/do not learn on your own, you are simply a burden to the senior.

What you can do to make everyone's life easier:-

1) Don't come to us with just a problem.  Come with your problem, your background research, and what you think should be done.  And we'll tell you whether you are on the right track.  If you come to me with a problem without a solution, then you are also part of the problem.

2) If you don't understand, ask.  And ask specific questions.  Don't just say "I don't understand".  Please explain to us WHAT you don't understand specifically so we don't have to recite the whole text book

3) There are a lot of learning resources in the Big 4.  Please do your research and reference before you ask questions.  There are no 'stupid' questions.  Only lazy questions which irritate people during peak period when patience is very thin

4) If you are not sure whether what you have done/doing is right, please ask your superiors to make sure you are doing it right.  "Get it right the first time".  Having to amend is a waste of time if it could be prevented in the first place.  Even if you are sure you are right, just confirm with your senior.  Don't assume you are right just because you think so.
I'm not saying juniors are hopeless.  Far from that, I like to believe you have potential.  But it irks me tremendously when you treat us like your classroom teacher.  You have your job, I have my job.  My job includes guiding you, but not hand-holding you.
*
Well said. Must have driven you nuts during all those stressful nights

Well, the other firms pay slightly higher for the same cr*p, so yeah, you feel a little better (just a tiny wee bit wink.gif ). Good luck in getting the job, the director must be too free!

I see. You should call them up if they dont reply you after 2 weeks. Seeing your situation, you are at a disadvantage as if you do join KPMG in November onwards, you will most likely miss out on the June promotion period (exception is you being fast-tracked) and will only be due next December. The cut-off joining date is October for June promotion. You need to be a minimum of 9 months in the firm in order to be eligible for normal promotion. Fast track is for superstar performers.

just got a call from KPMG for an interview on next monday. Normally what interview question will they ask?
*
Well, it depends on the manager really. Some may elect to ask technical questions relating to standards and some may just ask general questions pertaining to yourself ie education, why join kpmg etc. Just be prepared for both of them.

KPMG now have an offical FB page, so can ask job opportunites/internship over ther liao - http://www.facebook.com/KPMGMalaysia  rclxms.gif  tongue.gif  cool2.gif

quite slow to setup the page compared to other big 4..  sweat.gif
*
Finally it has its own FB page rclxms.gif . Yup, its way behind the other big fours. Never really fancied using fb to engage the younger people to join them, guess the old heads there are starting to turn their head around.

hi all, i am a management student with minimal accounting knowledge thinking to intern in the big4 to gain career prospects in the future....

was wondering what are my prospective departments? pls advise. TQ biggrin.gif
*
Which firm you are looking to join? Usually they divide the depts by industries, which industries are you interested in?

QUOTE(The 1 Coward @ Mar 6 2012, 08:34 AM)
I am wondering what are my chances of entering Big 4 when i spent the last few years in a small audit firm. I heard they do not prefer candidates who has past experience in smaller audit firms..

I am an ACCA graduate and from the post above, i guess it does not carry much weight anymore eh.
*
Not really, when they are desperate, they will take whatever they can! You should have a go. Just apply, they may offer you a more junior position as a start but they will see you being experienced enough to handle jobs on your own and they don't have to really teach you audit 101 all over again.

Haha used to. Now just an ex-kpmgian wink.gif. Yup, this will help widen their scope. The quality of the girls have been dropping even when I was there sweat.gif jjk

QUOTE(TS90 @ Mar 7 2012, 10:01 PM)
Hi all... I got a dillemma and would appreciate all your feedback.

Recently, i rejected Firm A's offer (Audit) to enter Firm B (Tax). However, after entering Firm B, I realized that the job does not suit my nature and I am not particularly excited by the work.

I am considering calling up Firm A to ask them if they are willing to accept me again. Do u think this is a wise idea or would they not consider me since I rejected them in the first place.

I appreciate all of your feedback. Many thanks.
*
If Firm A is who you really want to join, then by all means go ahead. All you need now is a good 'story' to help convince Firm A to offer you again.

im going to do intern this august, i saw kpmg does not require any min cgpa, should i bother to apply even my cgpa so so only?
*
Go ahead. Your CGPA is only a basic requirement for you to attend the interview. The fact that they love doing those interviews in group batches these days means you have higher chances la. Most important thing is you MUST pass the assessment test.

QUOTE(dewVP @ Mar 27 2012, 01:32 PM)
when is the next intake for EY? July right?
*
EY major intake for freshie is March, October and December. July is generally consider off-peak for audit, hence there will be enough staff to cope with the work load. Its a different story if you are joining as an experienced staff.

I am a fresh grad student and get interview from EY. Interviewer is Steven Lim Senior Manager, any advise for me? what question they will ask in the interview?

Thanks in advance!!
*
My dept manager that one alright nod.gif . Usually, they ask general questions about yourself. You may have to elaborate more on examples where you showed qualities such as teamwork, leadership, proactiveness etc during your uni days, co-curicular activities or similar experiences. Its like a chit chat session, so just relax. Just to be on the safe side, do read up on the standards. At least cover the popular ones, FRS139 and IFRIC15 which are quite relevant to my department's jobs. All the best thumbup.gif

Q1 - Yes, the minimum period to be eligible for promotion is 9 months for fresh graduates. Unless you are a super power staff, its gonna be very difficult for them to promote you (below 9 months), though I've seen exceptions. But even that is 1-2 people only.

Q2 - Haha, of cuz my former dept, Audit M biggrin.gif . Jjk, anyway, we've said along that Audit K is the benchmark for the rest of the dept. I can warn you that its gonna be very difficult to be promoted there if you are just average. So, its better you join the other depts and be an average hero there thumbup.gif. Oh yeah, if they offer you Audit P, maybe you can ask to change. Lets just say its not so pleasant there.

The pay range for juniors are from RM2.7 to RM3k+. Senior is from RM4k - RM6k depending on your rank and ratings. Mileage claims are at 80 sen per km and of cuz must be according to the budget. If no budget, what also cant claim.

Q3 - I think its more due to the season being off peak now. The idle staff will be shifted to help those who are in rushing jobs or doing June year end etc. So the firms don't really need to hire in mass now. Probably the recruitment drive will start engine towards the year end say Nov, Dec there just before peak. Unless you are a superstar student with amazing results, they will just probably kiv you and call you up when the shortages kicks in towards the year end.

Regarding your pwc call, well, it doesn't sound promising atm, but as long as you don't receive the rejection email from them, then you still have a chance. Probably call them up within 1 week or so to check on your status.

Hi,

Most of the contributors here talked about M & K, while you mentioned that P is "unpleasant".

How about Audit G then, if you don't mind sharing?

Thanks
*
Lets see, while I was there, we called it the 'friendliest' dept. I think that the people there are more open and more easy going. I still keep in contact with my G friends and its still going strong despite the recent challenges KPMG faced. If you are interested in bank audits, this is the one as they have Stan Chart and HSBC. Just be prepared for long working hours and the all year round stuck in the same job. Other notable clients are the F&B clients, Guinness Anchor cheers.gif and Dutch Lady, helicopter co, Eurocorpter and if i'm not mistaken, Mercedes Benz.

KPMG has a strong technical partner, TFV.
Let's see, KPMG G. If I remember correctly, Carlsberg is also one of their clients? And Malaysian Pacific Industries. Agreed, G staff have more camarederie and are less anal retentive than most others.
*
TFV is one of audit K partners. And yeah, he's the designated technical partner in the firm. Carlsberg is from K too. You cant have all the beers in 1 dept tongue.gif
