Type of camera/lens/accesories : Digital camera
Budget : not more than RM2k
Your Location : Teluk Intan, Perak
Preferable brand : Panasonic Lumix than Canon
Type of photography u want to do : Landscape
Any specific models in mind? : Lumix LX5
Any specific features u want? : I like those photos where u can focus on the object while the background remains blur.. DSLR is the best for this, but i think DSLR is just too heavy to carry around for holidays doh.gif
*
actually an entry lvl DSLR aint that heavy lah bro. and if u really want to get the oof background kind-of image, an entry level model+50mm 1.8 should serve u really well. when i had my 1000D+50mm 1.8, i hung it on my shoulders across my body and i dont even feel the weight tongue.gif its really not that heavy and the results is stunningly great. but that's just my opinion. chiahau suggested u the sony nex3/5. that's a great lil interchangable-lens camera as well. but if ur really into the lumix lx5, go for it. its a good high end compact. u may wanna look into the lumix lx3/5's gallery to get some ideas bro thumbup.gif

thx guys for the feedback. i alridi have a fixed lense in my mind, which 18-105. so even the d3100 does not have built in auto focus, it's okie for me.

wit my criteria and a newbie, does it mean that D3100 is better for me? as long as

D3100 (light body) with 18-105 lense (heavy) combination is ok?
Both D90 and D3100 with ISO3200 take night pics nearly the same output quality?

Added on January 24, 2011, 3:48 pm

yea ka? some camera shop owners tell me that at iso3200, D3100 noise control is worse than D90 and overall output quality also worse than D90. wanna confirm on this point.

I will update you tomorrow about the picture with ISO 3200. so you can judge yourself.
anyway never listen to sales man, they are tricker they just want to take your money as much as possible. (Like what they did to me)

D90 is better ergonomic + better control + AF motor inside + got commander mode + better support given (you have battery grip available etc etc) - old model (been there 2 years plus). <- consider that
where as D3100 smaller size + HD recording + the latest sensor and processor + new model. <- do consider that as well

I am fairly new to the photography scene, though I've been doing videos with my Handycam over the past year.

Is the Eos 550D a good choice for starters?
Hope some sifus can send me a message or reply here about this icon_rolleyes.gif

As for the budget, I plan on requesting for my dad to use Maybank Treatpoints to redeem the camera, with my savings filling in for the remaining amount of treatspoints required (forgot the word for this so I say it the long way) :|

hi the 550d can do the first 2 pics u posted even with kit lens. i believe the 550d is good for starters. just buy based on your budget. if you have more budget then can go for 60d but 550d is fine. for the 3rd pic to get the bokeh u need a bigger aperture or longer zoom (cheap solution is 50mm 1.8). the 4th pic you need a macro lens, u have to spend a bit more money on this one. alternatively you could use extension tubes but best is getting a macro lens. 100mm f2.8 non IS is an affordable one (about rm2k). anyway these r my personal opinion. have fun shooting soon smile.gif

I own a D90 with 18-105mm kit lens.
I've been hunting for a telephoto lens for a very long time and ended up with nothing.
I mainly photograph birds.

Should I:
1. sell the 18-105mm and get a 18-200mm.
or
2. keep the 18-105 and get a longer lens?
I'm facing difficulties as most of the telephoto zoom are in the range of my 18-105mm (eg 50-300, 70-270), and i feel that would be a waste.
Any lens to recommend?
Budget would be +-RM4k or less.

How good is "Bigma"? the 50-500mm sigma lens. It's almost RM5000, is it value for money?

Nice thing about JPEG is that one doesn't have to see all the tons of noise during PP and it's so much faster to edit biggrin.gif

I might consider shooting RAW+JPEG in the near future, so that when I can straight away view the pictures, after a photoshoot brows.gif

For that, you would near a dual slot 64gb mem card to survive the day.

IDK but that is one of my target for tele-lens considering Nikon/Canon 70-200 2.8 is a way much much more expensive compared to siggy 70-200 2.8
