I know a bout aperture and exposure etc, been playing with full manual compacts for a while : )

Yeah I'll get the 50mm f/1.8 for sure.

Been looking at EOS 500 and 550d, what's the major diff between both models? Pricing differs by around 500 + -

Not much major differences, but you can kindly refer to here.

For RM 600, I would go for Nikon Compact, cz they are cheap but high performance, but dun get those slim stylish version, cz u'll be paying for the style and not the performance

Another question?

2. What is the different with 300 HS and 1000 HS? Already read the spec, but hard to see its different although the coding no. is far apart.

3. Anyone know how the Canon give their ixus coding?
Does smaller the no. (.e.g.: 95S) is the oldest sibling?

what "filter" u wanted ?
probably fine with kit lens , the get a flashgun XD

550D is a nice choice , should be below rm3k for the kit , just not sure for the filter u needed ..... if UV filter i think cheapo one as protection / dun use at all (degrading IQ)...
as those original hoya is rm100+ (if it is cheaper high possibility it is fake) , so may go over budget ....

as for memory card .... try to opt for sandisk lor

since u doing landscape , probably should nego for a tripod too (cheap / expensive lil different as u are still beginner ) .... if u can't , u will wan to put it in the list too

you can try YL @pudu plaze / J-one @ Amcorp mall ....
you can find some people in forum recommending some reputable shop around , just try using the search function ....

if you doing portrait , should really get a flash / a cheap 50mm prime =p
well that is future upgrade after u familiar with the function ...

PS : u can use shasaki.com as referencing , you can imagine around few hundred cheaper than it shown on the site , if it is more , 80% of the time u getting "slaughter"

( be careful for those filter , some say they offer u low price , but slaughter u when u buy those filter )

60D would be better than 550D.

The screen that can rotate and move is the main plus point for me, at least.

I'm not too sure about the model you mentioned, how about a nice IXUS 1000HS? It's a compact with manual functions and a nice f/2.0 lens- Good in low light smile.gif

You could probably get a LX3 or S90, but need to to up a few hundred $$ for the latest LX5/S95 smile.gif All these four cameras has f/2.0 lenses , which means it's much better in low light than other PnS.You get less blur due to extra stops in shutter speed smile.gif Plus, their ISO performance is top notch for their class smile.gif

60D IS a better camera than the 550D, specifications and price wise smile.gif Just like an Inspira is a better car than a Wira laugh.gif

60D is positioned as "mid range" whereas 550D is below at "Entry" level smile.gif

Both have it's strengths and weaknesses, but both are extremely capable PnS with manual controls and the f/2.0 lens.

I'd say go and test it out at any camera shop to see which you prefer better. Many people already know which one they want the moment they lay their hands on it smile.gif
