Hi all, may I know what are good answers to this interview question, "Why do you choose to work in Singapore?"

Thanks.
*
say that u are planning to migrate to Singapore because most of ur family members are here already. of course, you need to do some home work like get ur self familiar with a certain area in Singapore so that when the interviewer ask you where you relative stay, you can crap a little about it.

no Apple products are cheap. but if u wan cheaper, i can get a bit discount for you depends on what item u want. But if u really want cheap, then go for those China Brand pirated Apple products.

How much cheaper are you offering if say an ipad wifi edition 32GB?

I checked the singapore apple store is $878 inclusive gst and free shipping.

Anybody know when the ipad 2 gonna come out. Since i prefer that since its a smaller form factor, the current ipad is too heavy for me.
*
if u are looking for iPad, then better wait, coz Apple products normally have a 1 year cycle and iPad is near to the end of the cycle already. I highly doubt it will be a smaller version since Apple CEO bash Samsung for creating a 7 inch tablet and says that it is too small for reading last time. if u wanna buy, then let me know ba, but as for iPad, even after discount, it won't be cheaper as well since Malaysia is selling iPad at a cheaper price, Better take a bus cross the causeway and buy it there. a lot cheaper.

hallo again! i just got offered a new job, and i guess im taking it... im wondering if anyone knows any lobang for carpool from jb/woodlands/kranji to yio chu kang? :/
*
i travel from JB to yio chu kang daily, but not by car, I am on Motorbike, even i got a car, its just too expensive. $20 VEP daily, how to afford, haven include toll and petrol. Unless u owned a Singapore car, or don't even think of driving in to work daily with a Malaysian car.

Frankly speaking, have we debate on the benefit of getting PR before?? I used to be very eager to apply for PR when i 1st landed on SG, but after staying here for a while, i find that getting a PR doesn't really give us a lot of benefits compare to holding a workpass. this is what i found out so far, correct me if i am wrong.

Pros :
1. cheaper education (if u plan to study)
2. easier to job hop and also last option when come to company wanna retrench people
3. can buy resale HDB when u reach 35 years old or married.
4. CPF contribution (for west Malaysian, even after we give up PR, we can only get back when we reach 55 years old).
5. easier to pass immigration (no nid queue the long queue and can use the automated lane)

Cons :

1. cannot drive Malaysian registered car or Bikes.
2. u have to start paying CPF contribution which is a freaking 20% of ur salary.
3. SG gov might force u to convert into a Singaporean after 5 years or kick u out (not sure how true is this, but i dun wanna risk).

The main reason that is holding me back from Applying for PR is because i got 2 cars and 1 bike in Malaysia and i find it a waste if i wanna sell it off coz its very new. Not only that, if we get a PR, buying a car in Singapore is super duper expensive.

Even if you're not a PR, as long as you're residing in Singapore, you cannot keep a foreign car overnight in Singapore. So, unless you reside outside Singapore, this is not a con. But if you don't reside in Singapore, it's impossible to get a PR anyway. Moot point.

If PRs are not safe, what makes you think work pass holders are safer?
*
not really, when i travel back to JB daily, i see a lot of PR taking bike to work daily on Singapore bikes. I can apply PR with a Singapore residential address coz i have relative in Singapore and my official address on my workpass and also all my things in SG is on my aunty's house address. still wondering whether to apply or not. I heard that the chances of getting is quite high coz a lot of people(pinoy) in my company applied and they got it with just 6 months working in SG.

How hard is it to get a job in SG if someone has 10 years of experience but only has a diploma?
*
i got only STPM and only 3 years working exp before i come down to SG. it all depends on how much u are asking. even a PMR people can work in SG if he is only applying for a cleaner job. Please be more specific on what job are you looking for and how much u are expecting, then we can advise from there.

Since you are technically residing in Singapore (as your permanent resident address is in Singapore etc), then you cannot drive a foreign car in Singapore if you've been 'residing' here more than 12 months. Those PRs you see in JB should also be 'technically' residing in Singapore if not physically.
*
nope, i am working in Singapore more than 1 year d, no issue with driving Malaysia car in and out. I tried driving my motor and car, all no problem.

QUOTE(r1v3r @ Jan 19 2011, 12:17 PM)
there is a quota of how many EP can a company apply base on the number of SG/PR employee they have and the ratio is different for special company such as maid agency or construction.  So if others being equal, the comany can only employ PR or SG once it hit the quota.

If you are EP holder who rent a room in SG and intend to do that for a long period (say 10, 20 years) then it will be good to apply PR and pay CPF. Yes EP can take back more salary per month but what about the rental you??
I use the CPF to pay for my HDB or you can see it as "committed rental" and I can only buy a HDB if I am PR or Singporean. So I get to "keep" the room rental as it is now a form of investment. I prefer EP if I am stay in JB work in SG.
*
why? coz if u are on EP, you can't buy HDB in Singapore and got no CPF. I am still in dilemma whether or not to apply for PR since i stay in JB. I really wanted to buy a HDB flat since its a sure win investment, but I am not married and not attached. So it will take another 11 years before i can apply to buy for a HDB flat.

Plan A is if i get my PR now, i can start saving on CPF and got more money for down payment later when i reach 35 years old.

Plan B is i buy a Studio apartment in JB now (around 100k) and pay for my own house and wait till i reach 35 years old, then apply PR and sell off the studio and buy a HDB with the money i get from the studio apartment.

Plan C is to apply PR, then use this 10 years time to get my self a degree in Singapore, and plan those property things later after i get my degree (I am only on STPM and i asked b4, if i want a degree, i need to study diploma + advance diploma then degree).

So you guys think, which is better har? btw i am very satisfied with my current life earning small SGD salary but using RM daily in JB and i find the traffic is really not as bad as most people say. KL traffic is far worst than the causeway.

is PR being taxed cheaper than wp holder?

Added on January 19, 2011, 1:41 pm

haha...yup...u r not paid to give advice...but u will feel good if u can help ppl xp

i just moved to singapore....still thinking about whether I should be a PR....if i have become a PR, my money will be in the CPF fund...

btw...i m single lady....still thinking what i should do to have a better future...
*
ok then, i am a single male, then we be PR and get married asap so we can both buy a HDB flat and save on rental tongue.gif (joking).

anyway, becoming a PR is definitely yes for me, but its just a matter of time. Coz after i become PR, i can't ride my Malaysian bike to work anymore and need to buy a Singapore bike. My Malaysian bike is just 2 months old. I got it new when i move to JB in december. So i think i need to wait at least another 2-3 years before i will get another new bike.

hi again lester, so now that u use the bike, how is it? what's the time taken like? i recall u used to take public only before? and also ur work place is near the border right?
*
My house is in Taman Ehsan Jaya (16KM from Causeway) and office is in Yio Chu Kang (around 15KM from causeway)

For JB to SG in the morning, its really depends on ur luck. coz when we enter from JB-SG, there are 4 side that we can queue to pass the immigration, there is 2 side that is very fast (1 side is for BIKES). another 2 side is slow. let say if i am lucky and those ICA police didn't halau us to the other side, then i can reach office less than 1 hour from my house. But if unlucky, then it will take around 1 hour 15 mins to 1 hour 30 mins depends on traffic. yesterday i leave house at 7:30am, reach office at 8:25am. Today leave home at 7:30am, reach office around 8:20am. If u leave home at 7:30am, definitely won't be late.

For SG-JB in the evening, same thing, there is 4 side to pass the immigration, depends on luck as well. 1 side is only for Singaporean, PR and registered BIKES user only. If you travel by bike very frequent, can go and do the BIKES thing in the immigration but they are only open in office hours. same like morning, 2 side fast (1 side is BIKES), 2 side slow, if got to the slow section, will reach home around 7:15pm lo. If got the fast section, can reach around 6:50pm. I off work at 6pm.

Public transport is only testing la, last time bcoz i stay in SG ma, don't have bike, so went to my friend house in Taman Sentosa and try to travel to work with Bus, leave his house at 5:30am and reach Kranji MRT at 7am. To me, its a waste of time, better travel by bike. But my friend say he don't like the smoke smell, blah blah blah (as usual la, those people that are grown in a pampered family, sure cannot tahan this, tahan that 1). then he decided to take bus. If you ask me, i think u sleep less 1 hour a day will do more harm then inhaling those smoke for 15 mins when u are on the queue. moreover, if u went to the slow section, there will be police there to scold those people that didn't turn off their engine when they are on the queue, so most people will be eating breakfast, reading newspaper when they are queuing on the slow section and the air is very fresh (morning ma).

Overall, if u let me choose again, i will still choose to stay in JB coz last time when i stay in Sembawang, if i work at 9am, i need to leave my house at 8:10am as well. So i only need to leave home 40 mins early and i get to have my own transport, i can keep my Malaysian car in JB so i can go back KL whenever i like and don't have to squeeze with those people in MRT in the morning.

Planning renew after CNY but scare cannot pass Malaysia custom due to passport less than 6 month. Any experience this situation before? Thanks!
*
Malaysia custom u don't have to worry 1 la. Especially when u are taking a bike. they don't even bother to check ur passport and u can simply ride through. if u are a Singaporean, worst thing u need to knock their mirror so that they will chop ur passport for you (no joking, my Singaporean colleague complaint this to me). As for Driving, you just need to lift up ur passport to show that u are holding Malaysia passport, they don't bother to check the expiry date 1. Not even looking at your passport. That day i was driving in, i am digging bag for my passport when i cross the Malaysian custom and that guy just ask, "Malaysian ar?? go go". But take bus and flight is different story la.

i remember saw someone talking about riding motor into Sg, our motor lesen in MY will only last us the 1st year , after that we will nid to apply the Sg motor lesen ? izit true ?

btw, anyone going back to Sg on 7th feb , from KL ? mind if i wanna carpool ?
*
to clarify your though, this was asked by me previously. So the conclusion is :

1. if u ride a Malaysian car/bike in SG, you can use ur Malaysia license for it. doesn't really matter how long u were holding the work pass.
2. you can't drive any Singapore registered vehicle without having a Singapore license in Singapore.
3. Singaporean and PR cannot drive any foreign registered car in Singapore soil.
4. your foreign car must leave Singapore at least 6 hours daily (this 1 i think they don't enforce it strictly coz i got a few friends that drive their car into Singapore and stay inside Singapore more than a week, and no action taken against them as long as your length of stay is not too long like few months).
