If ever your N8 failed to boot up (mean pressing the power button but no response), do as follow:
1. Verify is it a SW hang by long press the power button >7.5 seconds to force shutdown the N8. This is for SW hang scenario 2. Plug in the charger and wait for AT LEAST 15 minutes, then try to boot up. This is for depleted battery scenario 3. If you are SURE the battery not depleted and got the DEAD N8, send to NCC for checking as it might be defective hardware related issues.
From experience, the N8 can't be Hard Reset once it's failed to boot up normally or so call "DEAD N8".

4. From what I've observed the phone AMOLED will start to turn off start at "ST BLACK-04.bmp", "ST BLACK-03.bmp", "ST BLACK-02.bmp", "ST BLACK-01.bmp",
"ST BLACK-00.bmp".
5. The screen dark "stains" will sufface as well during these few color cards.
6. Start from "ST BLACK-05.bmp" onward the dark "stains" will be not so visible.
7. All these have to be done in total darkness room as these defective "stains" are not visible at all when the surrounding are bright.
After you seen these result DO NOT simply bash N8 straight away as we're not sure why/how the AMOLED display technology work and how it perform on other
devices. Anyone can use these color cards to verify on others AMOLED display devices as well...

The N8 push email service is now working. at least on my N8.
Previously was on the IMAP 'pull'.
after collecting from the NCC the 'push mail' was still not working.
Deleted all mailboxes and recreated.. Still the same
Today deleted one mbox and recreated.. and voila.. push is now working!

Sorry to hear that but as you can see, there's a lot of spammers here. But most questions are still answered sooner or later if possible Nokia stated that 2nd batch should only reach consumer by late January or early February when they admitted the problem on N8. I do not know what way exactly can you determine which are 1st batch and which are 2nd batch. I don't think you can find out.

NCC SUCKS. last saturday in morning im calling them. same like you no one picks up. i just to ask if they open that day. and until what time. only that. after that i just go ambush. after arrived only got few people waiting. good la.
after my turn got their NCC phone ringing but no one want to pick up. then i sound her, "patot la tadi telephone takde orang angkat." she just replied" kalau customer ramai tak boleh angkat, nanti ganggu customer." i saw no customer left liao. WTF them?

PLEASE BACKUP YOUR INFORMATION ALWAYS!!!
1. Inspect your Nokia N8 condition before send in (for scratch marks, screen, buttons condition, camera lens condition, body build condition), this is the items that need to be check after the fixed.
2. Send your Nokia N8 to the nearest authorise Nokia Care Center (NCC).
3. State your problem statement cleary to the NCC technician and log a work order.
4. Check your work order receipt on the device conditions check mark (ensure the technician not WRONGLY mark your device send in conditions)
5. Send a personal mail to nokiamalaysia1@ovi.com with:
a. Your work order ID. b. Your problem statement. c. The Nokia Care Center (NCC) lacation that you send in. d. Date of send in, time of send in if possible. e. Your contact number.
6. Keep on calling the Nokia Care Center on DAILY BASIS (if facing no one pick up the phone, just keep calling and send this issue to the nokiamalaysia1@ovi.com as well)
7. During the device fixed and before signing ANY documents, please check the fixing quality for any EXTRA COSMETIC defect like:
a. Extra scratch marks. b. Screen condition and alignment. c. Camera lens (ensure no DUSK inside the lens) d. Body painting condition. e. Top/Bottom plastic covers are fully flushed in. f. All screws are properly flushed. g. Buttons condition (feel by pressing it) h. Top/Bottom label condition. i. Overall phone condition. j. Widgets are properly install. k. For CHANGED MOBO, please ensure warranty are updated with the NEW IMEI#.
8. After sastify with the repair quality, sign the release documents.

In the begining of last weekend, I posted the above text and, despite all my efforts, there was no way to revive my N8;
preparing it to go to the repair centre the following morning, I removed both the SIM and Memory cards.
At 10am of Saturday the 27th, I tried to power up my N8 one last time and incredibly, it turned ON!!! My beloved N8 returned from the dead!
As it was fully charged and without the SIM card, I decided to do a test with it, to see how long would the battery last in standby without any of the cards (sim and mem). At the end of the 1st 24h, the NBM was still showing an amazingly 95%, which meant that roughly it could get going in that state for a total of about 480h;
Once those 1st 24h past, I decided to add the SIM card to the phone.
Once the SIM was inserted, NBM completely changed the remaining battery percentage, and after another 24h, the phone showed me only a total of 19% of battery to use, which meant that exactly in the same conditions as the 1st 24h, but with the SIM inserted, the phone could only go for a total of about 31,5h (standby no apps running) with the battery fully charged.
Now I am running another test.
I fully charged my N8, removed the SIM card and inserted the 16gb mem card, and I've been listening to music for 3h10m now, and the NBM shows 93% of remaining battery. This means that with the phone in offline mode (without the SIM inserted), the phone can continue to play music for about 42,85h which is not that far from what Nokia states in the specs (50h in offline mode), when compared to all the remaining specs...
This means that:
1 - the mem card isn't draining any battery in my case
2 - the battery I'm using, seems to be fine, as it works alright with no SIM
3 - the problem right now, seems to be the SIM card, because even when the phone is in offline mode, if the SIM is inserted in the phone, the battery life expectancy is very short
So my question is, how can thee SIM card be draining battery, even when the phone is on offline mode?
Could it be that some of the SIM card slot connections is tripping the battery?
What do you lot think?
(by the way, I'm so happy that the phone didn't really die! at least not yet...)

although the phone in offline mode but who's know what going on in the phone hardware?? so no conclusion to be make... what i only know if u really wanna purely offline just un-plug the sim card loh...

kyo, clear is those u normally see. shiny shiny and fully transparent. matte surface is those slightly rougher de. its harder to get scratched and fingerprints, but it is not so nice in terms of visibility. there are small light spectrums. kinda irritating. especially when i view this thread where i wanna see everything crystal clear HEHEHE

The iPhail is really cacat wan. Apart from games and browser, nothing works like it's expected. I just plugged in my 5800XM to the boom box (home theater) jack and it's really good with Wonder Girls (Nobody). Then N8 also not bad but not as good as 5800, guess what... cannot find a lobang to plug into iPhail to play back wor. So I guess need to go to epal store to buy special adapter.

I don't have this screen wor. Normally I will just go to the connection manager to close the connection and if it connect again, I will do the 8 secs reboot sequence. Actually the past 20 years that I spent on software development has made me accept such problems but the treatment that Nokia/NCC dishes out for such a product that is supposed to be flagship leaves a lot to be desired.
Time to stop my ranting, my friend just offered to take back the iPhail provided I buy him BLR. Looks like I am gonna go thru the 5800/N97 roller coaster again.

just some info for sharing... those Connectivity setting, everytime you make changes it's advisable to do a reboot... i've notice sometime only a reboot will properly reflect the changes...
just after close the ovi store the wifi still open,but now after restore all.now it ok

i think thats is normal..sometime when im going online let say using opera..sometimes got two notification for connection to internet..when i check on log..the other connection connect to internet but no data sent or receive..after a while(probably around 15minute) the connection will gone..at first i was worried..scared will download WTH i dont know(im using maxis... )...after i monitor log and the data quote...seem everything is fine...so i just let it be...
last nite also my phone didnt restart....

my X6 always in chinese input but default input is English. The keyboard for alpha is smaller but got numbers at the top and symbols in the numbers tab more....and can immediately switch to chinese

Ya lor. We almost always post N8 related matters, just that sometimes drag to iPhail comparison and etc BTW, I uninstalled the Battery Monitor app to see if it will make my battery last longer. Read on the Nokia forum that it is always running and will consume battery wor.
