If ever your N8 failed to boot up (mean pressing the power button but no response), do as follow:
1. Verify is it a SW hang by long press the power button >7.5 seconds to force shutdown the N8. This is for SW hang scenario 2. Plug in the charger and wait for AT LEAST 15 minutes, then try to boot up. This is for depleted battery scenario 3. If you are SURE the battery not depleted and got the DEAD N8, send to NCC for checking as it might be defective hardware related issues.
From experience, the N8 can't be Hard Reset once it's failed to boot up normally or so call "DEAD N8".

If want to change the level of quality fix, uninstall the previous mods then intall the prefer mods then restart. 6. For restoration, uninstall all the mods then install the "Camera Mod Restore.sis" to restore back the original camera setting.

2. Open these files with the default photo viewer.
3. Go into an enclose place (total darkness needed) wait for a while (to let our eyes get use to the darkness) and view into the phone screen.
4. From what I've observed the phone AMOLED will start to turn off start at "ST BLACK-04.bmp", "ST BLACK-03.bmp", "ST BLACK-02.bmp", "ST BLACK-01.bmp",
"ST BLACK-00.bmp".
5. The screen dark "stains" will sufface as well during these few color cards.
6. Start from "ST BLACK-05.bmp" onward the dark "stains" will be not so visible.
7. All these have to be done in total darkness room as these defective "stains" are not visible at all when the surrounding are bright.
After you seen these result DO NOT simply bash N8 straight away as we're not sure why/how the AMOLED display technology work and how it perform on other
devices. Anyone can use these color cards to verify on others AMOLED display devices as well...

First Batch of N8 having about 5%~6% GENUINE MOBO defective.(CONFIRMED) - these GENUINE defective units will give you a DEAD N8 issue where the device will failed to boot up. - confirmed the battery is fully charged but the device will still failed to boot up. - confirmed HARD RESET CANNOT solve the issue. - IF POSSIBLE try to avoid the 1st batch of the N8 as have source pointing Nokia already stop all the 1st batch.

03. Default browser randomly crash and causing an auto soft reboot.(CONFIRMED) - when surfing mostly on those heavy site the browser will crash for no reason (confirm not cause by low resource). - try disable the "Java/ECMA script" might help on some heavy scripted pages.
04. Call Logs missing even set to keep for 30 days.(CONFIRMED) - Logs over flooded by network connection logs. - Logs having limited overall entry although set to keep for 30 days.
05. Screen won't be fully turn OFF after the charging complete popup message(CONFIRMED) - Plug in the charger and let the phone to charge. - After the charging complete, a message will popup, do not disturb it and let the phone to turn off the screen as usual. - Turn off the surrounding light (a total darkness needed to observe the screen). - When look the screen in total darkness, you can see a grayish screen with some dark spots (dirty stains).

As the more I think and the more I cross check with the service manual I really worry the change of the MoBo for the N8 are really easily been mess up by those un-train or un-skillful NCC technicians...

ohhhh... that one huh... although I've seen some users reported here about the issue, but mine never show that leh... everytime the screen can autolock without any issue....
The N8 push email service is now working. at least on my N8.
Previously was on the IMAP 'pull'.
after collecting from the NCC the 'push mail' was still not working.
Deleted all mailboxes and recreated.. Still the same
Today deleted one mbox and recreated.. and voila.. push is now working!

I had sent my Nokia N8 to NCC last last Thursday, 18/11/2010. I would like to know the repair status of my phone but no one picks up the phone. I sent to NCC in 1Utama. May I know is there other way to ask about the status? = =" (Really fed up with their service..)
send a personal mail to nokiamalaysia1@ovi.com with ALL these details (IMEI, Work Order#, NCC location, problem statement) this will help "at least" someone to chasing your case closely...
MUST READ!!! Nokia N8 that send to Nokia Care Center (NCC) for Repairing...
PLEASE BACKUP YOUR INFORMATION ALWAYS!!!
1. Inspect your Nokia N8 condition before send in (for scratch marks, screen, buttons condition, camera lens condition, body build condition), this is the items that need to be check after the fixed.
2. Send your Nokia N8 to the nearest authorise Nokia Care Center (NCC).
3. State your problem statement cleary to the NCC technician and log a work order.
4. Check your work order receipt on the device conditions check mark (ensure the technician not WRONGLY mark your device send in conditions)
5. Send a personal mail to nokiamalaysia1@ovi.com with:
a. Your work order ID. b. Your problem statement. c. The Nokia Care Center (NCC) lacation that you send in. d. Date of send in, time of send in if possible. e. Your contact number.
6. Keep on calling the Nokia Care Center on DAILY BASIS (if facing no one pick up the phone, just keep calling and send this issue to the nokiamalaysia1@ovi.com as well)
7. During the device fixed and before signing ANY documents, please check the fixing quality for any EXTRA COSMETIC defect like:
a. Extra scratch marks. b. Screen condition and alignment. c. Camera lens (ensure no DUSK inside the lens) d. Body painting condition. e. Top/Bottom plastic covers are fully flushed in. f. All screws are properly flushed. g. Buttons condition (feel by pressing it) h. Top/Bottom label condition. i. Overall phone condition. j. Widgets are properly install. k. For CHANGED MOBO, please ensure warranty are updated with the NEW IMEI#.
8. After sastify with the repair quality, sign the release documents.
9. Enjoy your newly fixed Nokia N8, and keep monitoring on it's performance (just in case the original failures not been properly fixed).
