Where are you located mate? you could start off my meeting with a couple of amateur radio operator. Or you could do it the hard way like me 5 years ago. Dig information everywhere, calling far off hams (United states) for guidance. I've never even saw a real amateur radio until after months i got my license.

Water leak + very good reception. You will need to reinforce with at least a 4x4 inches plate or else your roof will have dents.

Get a magnetic mount if you really want on the roof.

I used to have the diamond mr77 on my roof but troublesome when going into garage or shopping mall. Opted for the bonnet mount although not as good as the roof mr77.
Couple of times killing the florescent tube in shopping mall, have all the broken glass on my truck bed.

But then i had already bought it back & it cost me tax from Malaysia Custom! damn it... mad.gif
Well i will have to face the problem & sourcing for solution beside problem of killing some florescent tube in shopping mall brows.gif
Anyway I will be using 3/4 wave antenna for daily use & maybe for outstation travel will be on the 5/8 antenna!
Hope it wont cost me any trouble then... thumbup.gif

I have done this .. search for 9w2tpt importing radio on the net. Yes, you'll be taxed, the 10% sales tax for anything over RM400 but no import duty though.
