According to the manual, the ZW-44 is a true Hardware bypass...... but many people claim it's not...... I dunno why.......
But it says on the box.... True Hardware Bypass..... |

First off..... welcome to the club..... I'm sure you'll find we are a lovely bunch..... especially Led_zep......
Secondly...... If I'm not mistaken, isn't The Fender Jaguar was supposed to be the lowest end Fender there is? I mean.... that was why Kurt Cobain used it....... it was cheap, always out of tune, and crap..... exactly why it sounded so good!!!! |

Hey.... another Epi LP-100 user..... Coolness......
Actually...... if you look after it real well..... you can get some amazing tones out of the good ol' 100...... And SG1320 for the Zakk Wylde Camo epi?? I don't care if it takes a year...... but US160 for that SAME guitar...... that's gotta be worth it.... |

But really on what kind of amp you get. If it's the really expensive one, above 2k range...... it's still going to be REALLY HEAVY to bring back. Don't forget...... you still have to carry it to Malaysia. If you're in a car.... just proper it in the trunk and when the customs officer asks, say it's part of the car's audio system! Damn shyok shyok one leh!!!!
If you're buying a small mini practise amp, then just buy it here. A good combo amp will set you back for about RM1500.... I hear everyone in this thread is RAVING about the Vox amp..... |

Actually..... although the AX-50 looks freakin' awsome....... I would have to say, not a practical FIRST guitar. Maybe as a second guitar, but definately not a first...... instead of just drooling over images of the guitar, take him down to a Guitar Collection (the one in Mid Valley and 1 Utama has a really wide range) and get him to test out a few guitars...... you'll be surprised how much more fun he can get out of an Eclipse model or something with a Tremolo/Whammy bar.....

Well, I'm a LOYAL Marshall soldier...... but these days...... I really have to give Vox the nod for a better budget amp. The MG50 really does not have defining character and for that price, I would go for the Vox instead. It has modelling, effects, not to mention that sweet tube sound..... all for a very reasonable price. The Marshall's answer to the Valve series, is the AVT series....... which to me I find is pretty ok, but they do cost more then the Vox. As much as I want to..... I can't recommend the MG series at all..... for the AVT....... mmmmmaaaaaaayyyyyybbbeeeee....
Here are prices for the AVT series directly from Bentley.... AVT20x - RM 1,500 AVT50x - RM 2,650 AVT100x - RM 3,000 AVT150x - RM 3,600 See....... Vox suddenly becomes even MORE attractive. But when it comes to the higher end stuff...... no one does better then Marshalls. NO FREAKIN' ONE...... Mesa/Boogies, Randalls and Vox can try all they might...... NO ONE comes CLOSE to a JCM800 as the perfect Metal amp. Zakk uses it..... Kerry King uses it...... Nuff said. and Nerd is right...... Metallica uses Mesa/Boogies and NOT Marshalls..... And no..... there are no budget Mesa/Boogies...... Stick with the Vox....... This post has been edited by blacktrix: May 29 2006, 12:55 AM |

Yeah, I took the same photo awhile back on my trip to SG. I think that was the trip I came back with the ZW-44 overdrive pedal.
Speaking of which..... does your son own any FX pedals or multi-fx units? Another good investment is a solid FX investment..... And yeah...... Slash uses the JCM800 too..... Seriously, it's the most amazing metal amp around. |

A guitarist just doesn't rely on his amp and guitar alone to come up with sounds. He usually adds effects pedals or units to enhance the tone.
Most popular individual effect pedals will be overdrives/distortion units and a Wah pedal. Then there are delay effects, echo, reverb, looping, chorus, phaser...... the list will go on and on and on. Again, these are put in between the amplifier and guitar signal chain to provide some awsome effects. Like Nerd says, the GT-8 is an excellent example of what a multi-fx is. From that one unit, you are able to get the sounds from a whole bunch of single pedals and put them together in a single contained unit. Since he already has 5 guitars, get him a multi-fx pedal next so he can play around with different effects before setteling on his own unique sound. The Zoom G2.1u is getting rave reviews in this forum because it's cheap, has average effects, an expression pedal (used to control Wah effects or the volume) and also has the added bonus of allowing you to record directly to the PC via USB. More info on the pedal can be found here: http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/products/g21u/index.php And since your son is into metal, I strongly suggest getting him a Wah pedal as well (yes, even though a multi-fx unit has a wah effect, it's best to get this on it's own). Wah effect is kind of like how the teacher in the Peanuts cartoon talks......The most popular brand of Wah's is from Dunlop and they produce killer Wahs. I suggest getting the GCB-90 wah if you're on a budget, but if you have a little bit more extra..... get him either the Crybaby from hell (Dimebag's signature Wah) or Slash's Signature wah...... both of them EXCELLENT Metal wahs. Speaking of multi-fx........ my next effect pedal will be either the Vox Tonelab SE or the Zoom G9.2tt........ both using a tube pre-amp..... YUMMY! |

QUOTE(asura_86 @ May 30 2006, 06:15 PM) guys, got any good stompboxes to recommend? i need a distortion/overdrive and wah for under rm900, so which one should i go for? boss? or line6? What kind of distortion are you looking for? I mean, what kind of music you want to play?btw, i'm quite confuse with the effects generated by the distortion pedal and the metal zone...wat's the difference between them? An Overdrive pedal is used to boost the signal of your exsisting distortion from your amp..... a Distortion is used to produce a, well, distortion all on it's own and a Metal Zone...... well...... that's a distortion pedal, which is for um...... metal. The Metal Zone is very grindy and very trebly and will totally suck your tone completely. It's good if you play trash metal and stuff like that..... but that's about all it can do....... not versatile at all...... and for a wah....... well...... I'm only used to Dunlop Wahs.... so I would recommend the cheapest.... the GCB-95..... |

Hey there. Congrats on your buy. Honestly, have no idea what a J.D. Guitar is...... I assume it's an acoustic?
But anyway..... you should join the general thread if you want guitar tips and stuff...... we're trying to reserve this thread about the cheap guitars that are for sale and how good they are. I guess you can go to www.guitar.com or www.ultimate-guitar.com for SOME lessons....... but don't depend on 'em too much.... |
