i dont know abotu you guys, but i have this firm believe that to test a guitar it must be good clean first. no matter what the purpose of the axe is. i actually crossed off a lot of axes from my radar with this
*
good point. just to add to that, play the guitar first unplugged.

Read it somewhere in Godin's website that an electric guitar is essentially a complicated acoustic guitar.

the pick ups only amplify the sound that comes out from the guitar's wood. so if the guitar already sounds sweet unplugged, when it's plugged, it'll sound better.

Steve Vai also commented that the tone of the wood from the neck and body should sound similar to get a nice tone from the guitar. How do you test it? Simply tap on the neck and body's wood. the good ones sound similar.

just my 2 cents.

I would not trust those so-called customs from China.

Rather opt for Indonesian luthiers.

Read it somewhere here that a guy did his custom axe in indon. Not bad i must say.

Atlas Guitars

I believe this is the one.

Looks good, but dunno about the rest. There was someone selling his PRS copy in the garage sale awhile ago.

Anyone can comment on this guitar?

Btw.  i like your pic.
Y UNO. xD

Haha, thanks but i can't claim ownership of it. tongue.gif

Well, I always believe you get what you pay for. Can't expect paying so little and getting a holy grail of a guitar. sweat.gif

That's why GAS is something sweet for a guitarist. You take all the effort in collecting the money, working hard for it. By the end of the day, you're justly rewarded. nod.gif

DO LIKE!

I'm a bit ol' skool on guitar decorations. To me, the fancier the guitar, the better of a guitarist you have to be.

My hands would be too itchy just letting the guitar hang on the wall. tongue.gif

QUOTE(Lucidus @ Feb 14 2011, 11:36 AM)
Talking bout that, where could I get a decent wall hanger that is suitable for concrete wall?
*
I believe this is a good brand: K&M guitar wall hanger

If i'm not mistaken, someone was selling this in the garage sale section.

probably just search for K&M guitar hanger.

If i were to troll, imagine this: Justin Bieber playing a Gibby SG. Better yet, he is endorsed by Gibson and plans to come out with a signature series SG.

Do you hate me now? sweat.gif

wanted to start learning Bass guitar any good starting pack ?? or should i go for fender ?
*
Bass question, in a guitar thread?
user posted image

I kid, i kid.

Probably these guys could answer your question better:
LYN Bassist Groove

but since you asked, if you just picked up a bass, probably a jumpstart/starting pack is good for you.

You get the bass guitar, amp, cable, strap, tuners, and picks to boot.

I personally take Ibanez bass jumpstart package, but that's just me.

all the best and cheers!

If brand new? LP standard

And you guys know any good tab website other than ultimate guitar? Cuz some of their GNR songs a bit out... and lots of extra unnecessary keys added that confuses me
*
QUOTE(Lucidus @ Mar 3 2011, 11:33 AM)
LP standard maybe RM1-2k.

As for the tabs, yeah most of them are not accurate, but very close. Go to 911tabs and pick the one with highest rating. If it still sounds way too out, check the tuning.
*
Youtube guitar covers/tutorials of the song you wanna cover helps as well.

roflmao ..

how often does you guys change your guitar string? on an elec
*
probably every three months is good enough.

some people will change it more frequent than others. I'm not that particular about my guitar strings sound or its playability.

just change it when you want it.

The sad news is ..

We got the deal . I am waiting for the amps to arrive at my place .
I LOVE the thought of testing Ceriatone amps , before buying 'em .
No need to stalk the gear page / youtube anymore
*
Kinda surprise that you manage to bring Ceriatones to your shop. I personally never heard any guitar shops that have a testing unit for Ceriatones.

Kudos to you for getting a deal on it. rclxms.gif We can wait for those beauties to come to your shop soon.

One more question: what must we look at when we buy a new guitar? Specs wise? The wood, the...??
*
Well, if it were me, some of the criteria would be:
1) my budget - what's the ball park figure i can do damage to my wallet?
2) any particular models or shapes you are into? The standard of what guitar you want would probably easily define as either Les Paul shape or Fender Strat shape.
3) already have the shape/model of the guitar you want in mind? good. now let's check out brands that within your budget and fits the type that you want.
4) test, test, test. you gotta hold it in your hand, hear the sound of the guitar. satisfy that part first before looking into what brand. it might not be a well known brand, but if you feel the guitar sounds and plays good, especially within your budget, why not buy it.
5) bring along a friend who has experience in playing and buying guitars. get a second opinion besides the salesperson.

Cheers!

I have no experience on strings haha.. Any idea of what strings for a dreadnought body guitar (electro acoustic)? And the gauge shud be? I have zero idea T.T
*
For acoustic guitars, go for heavier gauge strings. go for .10-.56 gauge sets

QUOTE(Lucidus @ Mar 10 2011, 12:25 AM)
Bought in bulk la.

Per box, not per pack.

can save around RM20-30 that way.
*
If you're buying the not coated strings and have money to spare, this way is worthwhile. especially if you're a regular performer and have money to spare.

QUOTE(SihamZhai @ Mar 10 2011, 12:27 AM)
Acoustic.. i always prefer the sound of d'addario.. also less than 30 can get dy
*
Been a fan of D'addarios for a while. you can't go wrong with it.

QUOTE(pleasuresaurus @ Mar 10 2011, 09:45 AM)
I may have mentioned this here b4, but Elixirs would last well beyond 2 months. I'm waiting for the light gauge Elixirs on my guitar to start rusting b4 I slap on a heavier gauge to better cope with downtuning...I've been waiting since last Dec...
*
This is another alternative if you're not willing to buy a box of strings set for your acoustic. Normal strings would last guess around 3 months or less, but elixirs will last probably 6 months or less. Depends how an*l you are about the sound of your guitar strings.
