the reason why u2311h is special because its using ips panel and it is the cheapest monitor with ips panel.
With ips panel you got better colour production, wider viewing angle, more durable pixel (less chance getting stuck/dead pixel) and better contrast ratio, plus you got zero-stuck pixel warranty. The only con for u2311h are smaller display, higher response time, lack of hdmi port and less modern monitor design.

For answering your question, u2311h are better for both gaming (unless you can see ghosting) and movies playback due to reason above.

Thank for your clear explanation. Really appreciate it.
So, there is no HDMI port smile.gif. Do you think it's important ?

Thinking of getting one next month. I can't decide whether to buy:

-BenQ 24" G2420H or
-Dell UltraSharp U2311H 23"

Their prices are quite close. I've been with BenQ for 4+ years d, no problem. Dell oso nice offer -ips panel, adjustable height/rotation. coz I do some designing. Any downside of BenQ G2420H over Dell U2311H?

Anyone recently purchase from Dell? bank transfer, can not meh? hmm

HDMI is not important unless you're going to use a PC,laptop and a console connected to one monitor at once.
If you use a HDMI - DVI converter you'll be able to connect your PS3 to the U2311H.Sound goes through the AV Multi cable

Yes of course it can support even if you use the VGA port.HDMI is not mandatory for "high definition" gaming, you just need a monitor with the correct resolution and a VGA/DVI/HDMI port.

The U2311H has better colour reproduction, better viewing angles, better stand, better warranty. If you're a designer on a tight budget the choice is obvious.

The price will remain the same, don't worry. It has been that way for ages.
Now if you don't have a crdit card you cans till buy from them either by calling them or buying the monitor from the garage sales traders [warranty is covered by dell so don't worry, they only act like a middle man]

LG IPS236V RM625~ [WLED backlight but out of the box not as accurate as the U2311H,more consumer-ish design]
Asus ML239H RM759~ [WLED backlight but out of the box not as accurate as the U2311H,much more expensive]
