QUOTE(Valentino46 @ Aug 13 2011, 02:48 AM) something i find quite funny when looking at the statement by panasonic spokesmen about their design direction, according to one of the interview quoted from 43rumors website http://www.43rumors.com/panasonic-has-no-p...cameras-coming/ something has to be said, they can't just lie down kena stomp over lolz.. be it an excuse or solid decision making , it does surely impact their sales later on if they dont move up their IS implementationThe polish website Optyczne (Click here) interviewed Mister Michiharu Uematsu from Panasonic. The most interesting points are: 2) And here is the reaosn why you want never see a Panasonic camera with built-in stabilization: “So far, no plans to assemble in a body-stabilized matrices. When recording movies acting to stabilize the matrix generates unnecessary noise on the soundtrack, and increases power consumption, and for all of our equipment we want efficient energy consumption.” according to them the reason behind the absent of in-body stabilization in panasonic body was that they want "efficient energy consumption device",but interestingly panasonic was always significantly less power efficient than their immediate competitor olympus in this respect by a substantial margin despite their lack of the in-body stabilizer. |

They see Sony as bigger thread than the fringe market olympus. If NEX implements inbody IS then maybe they'll consider it. |

Panny's lens direction already set with OIS di so its gonna be an expensjve preposition for them to switch to in body IS unlike changing sensor format,i reckon inclusive of in body IS is much easier and can be completely fluid in adapting existing lenses as well(we have no problem using stabilized pana lens on olym body for example),with very little innovative thinking they could easily give us something like dual IS control, with the camera control unit will automatic switching to appropriate IS system to achieve the best results(panning, video, still mode IS for example),only thing is perhaps the marketing ppl is not convince that inclusive of this feature will translate to increase sales, then thats the problem,i don't believe its a technological bound issueThis post has been edited by Valentino46: Aug 14 2011, 12:19 AM |

Adding IBIS would incur higher production costs I assume, thus higher priced prodcuts

QUOTE(raptor_cZn @ Aug 14 2011, 12:27 AM) a higher price which i'm sure you & me and many forumers here willing fork out, olympus counterpart doesn't cost that much more anyway,do you ever wished your 20mm f1.7 or the upcoming 12mm f2.0 or perhaps the 45mm f1.8 is stabilized to work better in low light?oops sorry you can't because you are using panasonic body, but panasonic themselves might think the majority others don't give it a damn |

There is one advantage of having lens based stabilization though and that is video. Oly uses software stabilization for video but don't know how effective is that - I never play around with video much to notice. But the thing is, so far there isn't any brand that I know of which offers dual stabilization option at the moment (i.e. having IS lenses as well as stabilized sensor) . Sony (alpha mount) and Pentax do not produce any stabilized lenses. |

Sony (alpha mount) and Pentax do not produce any stabilized lenses. there are no proper dual stabilizer at the moment thats why i state "with a little innovative thinking" they could offer that for the first time but there are third party lens manufacturer which offer their stabilized lens to other body with IBIS,think sigma OS and tamron VC on alpha and pentax system, which they can choose to turn off one of them or have them running both at the sametime |

It's all about profits. If inbody stabilisation you can slap on any brand lenses but with lens stabilisation you need to buy back Lumix . Plain and simple.

However I find their price slightly on the high side, unless I couldn't find that item anywhere else, they are not my first choice. |

I love Sony's zoom in focusing system for adapted manual lenses, so much more convenient than Olympus'. They should make it that way for the next series or something.
