under Malaysia’s National Spectrum Plan, 700MHz spectrum band is allocated for broadcasting service, YTL Communications executive director Datuk Yeoh Seok Hong said his company had applied for that paticular spectrum, lets wait and see what happen by the year end icon_rolleyes.gif

Yah lets wait and hope for the best, Was taht something to do with Sezmi ?

October 11, 2010

Sezmi and YTL to Deploy Wireless Hybrid TV
Sezmi and YTL Communications, the Internet arm of YTL Corporation, a Malaysian utilities and infrastructure company, have announced a partnership to launch a converged intelligent TV and Internet service, which will provide wireless delivery of consumer entertainment and communications services to homes and mobile devices in Malaysia by the end of 2011.

The wireless “quadruple play” service will offer voice, data and TV services to the home and mobile devices over a hybrid broadcast and 4G wireless network. This hybrid TV component of the offering is based on Sezmi’s solution, which has already been deployed in the U.S. market. The Malaysian system is being developed and deployed by Sezmi in partnership with YTL Communications.

Through the partnership, Sezmi will design and manage the build-out of the digital TV network, and provide the platform and professional services to deploy the entirety of technologies and systems required to operate the hybrid TV service in a manner that is integrated with a broad range of consumer devices. Sezmi will also support YTL through existing content partnerships to deliver a rich and complete TV offering inclusive of live TV, on-demand movies and shows and Internet video.

In many regions of the world, over-the-air broadcast technology remains the predominant platform for TV. The high cost of upgrading to landline infrastructure capable of supporting television services is simply prohibitive.

The problem again is content, the problem unifi is facing, and sezme has nothing great to offer either, perhaps YTL can just give us the best and cheapest internet!

ASTRO NEEDS TECHNOLOGY TO PREVENT ILLEGAL RECORDING OF MOVIES Bernama - Tuesday, February 22Send IM Story Print
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 21 (Bernama) - Astro has been urged to introduce technology to reduce illegal recording of movies shown on its Astro First channel.

KRU Studios executive president Norman Abdul Halim said Astro First helped unscrupulous people rake in profits from the sale of pirated movies.

"Movie piracy has become rampant of late. Astro must work with film producers for mutual benefit.

"Astro should introduce technology to block recording of movies for sale to the public," he said commenting on reports that movies recorded on Astro First are being sold at only RM5 per copy.

Some buyers said the quality of pirated copies are comparable to that seen on Astro First.

--MORE ASTRO FIRST-PIRACY 2 KUALA LUMPUR

Astro''s decision to screen movies a few weeks after screening at local cinemas had met negative response from local film producers who said it would seriously impact the industry.

Norman said KRU Studios was still discussing with Astro on the production of original movies the same day shown on Astro First to reduce piracy.

However, Metrowealth International Group (MIG) chief executive officer David Teo begged to differ.

He said Astro First was not the cause of movie piracy as the problem had existed for decades.

"Astro First comes as a blessing to film producers who invested so much money making movies.

"We can make RM500,000 from Astro, five times the amount made from DVD sales," he added.

MIG has three movies on Astro First namely Ngangkung, Aku Masih Dara and Damping Malam.

really? I beg to differ..no use if we have a new provider but cant meet the needs of the customers..like for example, doing the basic thing of providing the service nationwide for one..and even if we get new provider, that provider needs to do well in actually getting some content that customers want and need..for one, try getting some of those exclusive astro content that viewers like..

im in no way backing astro here, but I dont really have high hopes for any new provider in this country unless they can achieve the things I have stated..and also price wise, thats a whole new factor..how many people have switched from astro to Unifi fr content and pricing reasons..?
*
Yah right too even astro shows no interest to wat customers want but more interest is shown in making profits, until today no races in malaysia who speak so many dialects hv their own channels i.e even after 15 years with measat 1,2,3 launched !!We must folllow singapore, bring in all the availibale channels, customer chooses but here astro chooses not customer! Unifi wl never make it without going natiowide at startoff. Mitv was an excellent competitor but had to go! rclxub.gif

HongKong & Singapore does have MPEG4 AVC for better quality(depends?) but certainly better compression.

The bottom lline is, Astro's HD not sufficient enough for me, though I'd accept the fact that sattelite broadcasting's the main fallback.

Wat I meant was the HD digital and MPEG versions of others compared to ours,Most HD is upscaled on astro. Our quality is poor and very much compressed.Digital transmission has been postponed so many times. So to us those formats could be just a dream !

YES ! When u are left with the mercy of an only one,the scenario is same as a gun pointing at your head. brows.gif Subscribe or dont subscribe or who ask u to subscribe is not the issue the issue is for the betterment of things to come.By voicing our grievances Hopefully we hv better fare in future. notworthy.gif

I just had a look at that unifi tv things channels and they aren't that bad. There are quite a few on there I'd love to have on Astro.

grrrr. Still waiting for them to launch that fibre optic stuff where I live. They were burying cables in the road a few weeks ago. I'm hoping they were fibre optics!

I don't suppose there's a roll-out map, is there?
*
Yes pal, their fare is okay with many new addittions, the best part I like is the international content compared to Asian versions. Sad indeed they are too slow to expand!

Off topic,

Nah mate, haven't seen in 32 years roll-out maps from TM. Trust me , they're utter unreliable on that part.
It will not be easy for you to guess where it's happening unless you see them by chance. There was some work in Cheras last month or so.

now Cheras is fully UNIFIED..

If you are seeking the wide world outside, why need for any TV? Get rid of Astro HD and get rid of the HDTV as well because without the Astro HD, your HDTV will be underutilized.
