QUOTE(dxjb @ Mar 13 2011, 10:49 PM) Hopefully this Tsunami disaster has open astro's eyes that the news channels we have is just not good enough..there 2 2 business news channels plus the Australian channel bundled into news channels..the real news channels we have is CNN, BBC, and Al Jazeera..Sky News would be great.. I know TM Unifi has ChannelNews Asia but I think astro (as a good partner with the gov) wont allow them to be on Astro..simple reason is Channel News Asia brings news about Malaysia that might hurt the government..Here we get crap TV1,TV2,TV3 news that are all pro gov and the opposition are all bad guys.. all things are rosy on the government side..but try watching Channel News Asia and they will give us the 'other side of the story'..Malaysian government are scared the people living in KL, and the northern states will hear news that would not be heard on the local news channels.. BTW, is the NHK channel on ch398 the same NHK channel that CNN, BBC and Al Jazeera got their news feed from? Or is that a different NHK? I dont have ch398 in my subscription.. QUOTE(starship1 @ Mar 15 2011, 01:08 PM) call up Astro to check on IPTV and the feedback are that it is under trial and will likely be launch in April/May on selected areas such as mont kiara and klcc area. Pls go for the PVR, the ext HDD which is WD tends to be problematic. the next area will like be bangsar and damansara . also check the PVR decoder upgrade where a one time RM 300 and RM10 monthly will be charge. alternatively , i could still use a external HDisk for recording at RM5 per month but they only recommend WD 320GB . does anyone knows if other brand HDD with higher capacity are compatible with b.yond |

TV1 is trying hard to potray a modern multi racial Malaysia cos its beamed to selected countries, and is everyones guess why, while the other is vice versa.......best not watched. When main papers and main TV turn to be tools of the ruling parties, this is when and why people like us crave for Sky News, Fox, NBC NHK World etc...etc ! Neutral genuine news channels which report as it is and leave no stones unturned are most welcomed and looked forward to...

QUOTE(dxjb @ Mar 15 2011, 08:24 PM) My point is..if the local TV is already crap with news about pro BN, then why not have another crap channel (your words by the way) that are not pro BN..at least we get both crappy side of the story..just having pro BN is lopsided dot you think..? But I wont count on it ever happening..the media in Malaysia is controlled by the gov..eventhough they say our media is a free from any parties and we are a democratic nation..as P.Ramlee would say it 'DEMOKRASI TAHI KUCING'.. Added on March 15, 2011, 8:33 pm QUOTE(sky3742 @ Mar 15 2011, 08:14 PM) Now I just wish unifi was nationwide ! They got more International Fare compared to Astro which are mostly Asian versions! QUOTE(neb @ Mar 17 2011, 03:23 PM) for comparison, byond offset dish is 0.65m (65cm) in size Alrite!! thanks for the info,in other words the rest are all bigger, thats sad !! but I have seen people using 1m offset dish with C-band LNB to receive those satellite signals, those LNB must be made out of high gain low noise type |

QUOTE(mono @ Mar 19 2011, 04:00 PM) wow! i wish i could have one of those. haha. sure got a lot of HD channels. when is Astro gonna adds up more HD channels? The situation is very crictical.................. we can see that they hv only room for 2 HD channels, one takes turn for 3D EPL while the other for local use which now is for Raja lawak. They leased out most of thier capacity so much so nothing much left for own use!!! They are now busy with IPTV and busy calling customers to change thier decorders to Beyond saying they are phasing out old decorders, so when this move is completed they wl hv space to add a few more HD! For those with old decorders,Just wait for thier call, most of my friends hv got the calls, HD services is optional but they wld change the decorder FOC for you.! |

Astro's IPTV link is ready, nothing great only availiable in 3 rich man zones in KL at the moment, they target high rise buildings, wherby fixing dish is not possible I think. Besides that nothing great, but quite sad to see that no more HD channels seems to be coming. They hv only last 2 HD channels to open and close !

QUOTE(THEALB10N @ Mar 23 2011, 04:51 PM) What's the difference between normal astro and what they are offering via IPTV? Just the same channels without the rain-fade issue, or different ones? The channel part there is no say about that, on same channels or not, I guess there wld be something different for marketing purposes. |

QUOTE(G K Lai @ Mar 27 2011, 11:11 AM) My B.yond set failed...? This could be a simple alignment problem, ur installer may not hv done a neat job, get him to checK.Although yesterday morning was raining here, but I can still watch it. Later around noon, I tried to watch it again, but it stated "Service currently not available". I can expect this since still raining outside... Later when the rain totally stopped, my B.yond set still act like that, still "Service currently not available" and no clock display on the B.yond set. Until around 4-5pm, it still the same, so I called Astro customer service. The lady asked me to do this do that and I've done everything still can't help. So she gave me a report number and ask a technician to come and look at it since she said probably my B.yond set or my dish problem. Now still no one call me, but it is ok... Why I post this here is because: 1) Does B.yond set so lame and could cause problem from time to time? Anyone had this problem before? 2) If they replace a new set for me, does that means I have to wait for the new activation again? Some people here said need 10 days, but when the time I installed my B.yond, the activation only took few hours. Thank you in advance! |

QUOTE(G K Lai @ Mar 28 2011, 12:57 AM) Thanks dannychen and smileguy for your reply~ ,Good to hear ur problem is almost solved.Deal direct with the installer,Installers wld replace it with charges, mine the old dish the LNB was replaced at RM150.I think I found out the problem myself. The LNB was having problem. Earlier this evening I knock the LNB lightly while displaying a 0% satellite signal on TV screen, then the signal strength suddenly jumps to around 67%. Now I can watch the movies, but the picture shows a lot of block noise like scratched VCD for all SD channels, and intermediate black out of 1~2 seconds for HD channels. Then later at night, the movies seems playing smoothly. A quick check at signal strength still shows only around 67% (was very high signal strength originally) I think that was water gets into the LNB unit when we had heavy downpour on Saturday morning. And after 1½ day, the moisture reduced slightly so I can watch the movies? Astro said they will sent a technician but until now still no one called me. How if the technician see the movie playing smoothly and don't want to replace a working LNB for me? Am I have the rights to request for the replacement? Added on March 28, 2011, 6:15 am QUOTE(Qash-M @ Mar 28 2011, 01:44 AM) Yes he is right ONLY for SP subscribers, cos I am on no SP I cannot get it ?!
