Hopefully this Tsunami disaster has open astro's eyes that the news channels we have is just not good enough..there 2 2 business news channels plus the Australian channel bundled into news channels..the real news channels we have is CNN, BBC, and Al Jazeera..Sky News would be great..

I know TM Unifi has ChannelNews Asia but I think astro (as a good partner with the gov) wont allow them to be on Astro..simple reason is Channel News Asia brings news about Malaysia that might hurt the government..Here we get crap TV1,TV2,TV3 news that are all pro gov and the opposition are all bad guys.. all things are rosy on the government side..but try watching Channel News Asia and they will give us the 'other side of the story'..Malaysian government are scared the people living in KL, and the northern states will hear news that would not be heard on the local news channels..

BTW, is the NHK channel on ch398 the same NHK channel that CNN, BBC and Al Jazeera got their news feed from? Or is that a different NHK? I dont have ch398 in my subscription..

Please give us more news channels! CNN always show the same news!

Yes, and make BBC widescreen for goodness sake! Its annoying watching on a widescreen TV and still losing parts of text on the edge of the screen  They have it in widescreen in Singapore!

when they install the new dish, does it using back the same cable or need to pull new cable to support new dish?

wanna request for PVR b.yond from existing b.yond package ,need to pay how much more ? is it RM 300 and additional 10bucks per month

call up Astro to check on IPTV and the feedback are that it is under trial and  will likely be launch in April/May  on selected areas such as mont kiara and klcc area.

the next area will like be bangsar and damansara .

also check the PVR decoder upgrade where a one time RM 300 and RM10 monthly will be charge.

alternatively , i could still use a external HDisk for recording at RM5 per month but they only recommend WD 320GB .

does anyone knows if other brand HDD with higher capacity are compatible with b.yond

the installation guy said that byond will still receive signal even on rainy days, i just found out that this is not true at all!

My point is..if the local TV is already crap with news about pro BN, then why not have another crap channel (your words by the way) that are not pro BN..at least we get both crappy side of the story..just having pro BN is lopsided dot you think..? But I wont count on it ever happening..the media in Malaysia is controlled by the gov..eventhough they say our media is a free from any parties and we are a democratic nation..as P.Ramlee would say it 'DEMOKRASI TAHI KUCING'..

no need dreambox, a normal RM50 free-to-air satellite receiver can receive the signal, however you will need a C-band LNB and 1.5m prime-focus dish

for comparison, byond offset dish is 0.65m (65cm) in size

but I have seen people using 1m offset dish with C-band LNB to receive those satellite signals, those LNB must be made out of high gain low noise  type

For who live at kampung can use dish like this

For who live at town and scare somebody notice that you dish is bigger than standard size, just use C-Band LNB with byond dish like this

What's the difference between normal astro and what they are offering via IPTV? Just the same channels without the rain-fade issue, or different ones?

My B.yond set failed...?

Although yesterday morning was raining here, but I can still watch it.
Later around noon, I tried to watch it again, but it stated "Service currently not available".
I can expect this since still raining outside...

Later when the rain totally stopped, my B.yond set still act like that, still "Service currently not available" and no clock display on the B.yond set.
Until around 4-5pm, it still the same, so I called Astro customer service.
The lady asked me to do this do that and I've done everything still can't help.
So she gave me a report number and ask a technician to come and look at it since she said probably my B.yond set or my dish problem.
Now still no one call me, but it is ok...

Why I post this here is because:

1) Does B.yond set so lame and could cause problem from time to time? Anyone had this problem before?

2) If they replace a new set for me, does that means I have to wait for the new activation again? 
Some people here said need 10 days, but when the time I installed my B.yond, the activation only took few hours.

I think I found out the problem myself.
The LNB was having problem.

Earlier this evening I knock the LNB lightly while displaying a 0% satellite signal on TV screen,
then the signal strength suddenly jumps to around 67%.

Now I can watch the movies, but the picture shows a lot of block noise like scratched VCD for all SD channels,
and intermediate black out of 1~2 seconds for HD channels.

Then later at night, the movies seems playing smoothly.
A quick check at signal strength still shows only around 67% (was very high signal strength originally)

I think that was water gets into the LNB unit when we had heavy downpour on Saturday morning.
And after 1½ day, the moisture reduced slightly so I can watch the movies?

Astro said they will sent a technician but until now still no one called me.
How if the technician see the movie playing smoothly and don't want to replace a working LNB for me?
Am I have the rights to request for the replacement? 

Eh, really? Try asking people with no sport package.
