This thread is a continuation of Nexus One v1 and v2. To find the old archives, you can look at them here:
v1 : http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1294834
v2 : http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1393679/

After such a long wait, watching other mouth-watering and hand-itchying beta testing on the Google Nexus One mobile phone, finally we have obtained our own unit (codenamed "Guinea") to satisfy our own beliefs, clear our own doubts and of course, help Androiders to make their mind before purchasing the Nexus One..

Before we begin our extensive discussion, I would like to remark here that this review is NOT in comparison to Apple iPhone particularly. What I will be sharing with you guys is as unbiased personal opinions as possible which may not be in sync with everyone's thoughts. So lets keep this discussion clean and beneficial to us.

The first part that you guys may want to know about the Nexus One is the packaging. Its a neatly done white box with 4 google colors along the sides. A clear "Nexus One" with Google's logo is clearly written on the box itself. Once again, its a Google's product, so it has to be simple just as simple as their home page is. Upon opening up the White box, you will be presented with your Nexus One phone followed by a pouch, quickstart quide, warranty disclaimer, charger, USB cable and earphones. Clearing doubts: The charger supports 110V - 240V within one adapter. The USB cable and the socket charger are separate although the USB cable can also be used for charging purposes. One thing I was disappointed with was the SDcard shipped with it. First its only 4GB (when it can support up to 32GB), secondly its only class 2! That means, I still will have to go out and get a better SD card soon..

In a Nutshell
Upon holding Nexus One in your palms, the first thing that captures your attention is the back cover. This really is very hard to explain. It has a "smooth", "rubbery", yet "solid" touch which I have not experienced on other gadgets I have owned so far..For HTC Hero owners, if you can immagin, the feeling is somewhere in between the mixture of the metal and the plastic cover of your Hero..The color of Nexus One is very similar to HTC Hero bronze. The curves and size will make you feel the weight of the money you spent on this phone..If you could bend your HTC hero like a plasticine, you can actually get a mold of Nexus One from the Hero itself..Under the hood, lies a 1500mAh battery ready to juice the 1Ghz Snapdragon, all set to take on any mobile applications with intense requirements..However, unlike HTC Hero which has a chin bend at the bottom, I personally think that Nexus One's protection will be lesser than that of Hero..If you put the set upside down, the touching surface is the trackball and the earpiece speaker..With a little pressure, the screen can come into contact with the surface, so I will give Hero a plus for this..

Boot and Homescreen
I tested my first run of Boot which took roughly 18 seconds to reach the PIN input page and about 35 seconds in total boot time..It still is slow for a 1GHz processor but then again, this is stock unrooted ROM so I don't really mind this yet..Once the homescreen appears, you are in full control..The swiping effect is smooth..So far I have not felt any lags at all..When I say "lag", I mean a few milisecond lag..The transition is so smooth, you can even "grab" it half way like as if it was expecting you to do that..Whats best about the homescreen, like most of us know already is the dynamic background..I have to say, apart from the Nexus One, Grass, Smoke and Water Ripple, the other backgrounds are really not that appealing..While the good news is that you can develop your own dynamic backgrounds and use them on your homescreen..

3G and Wifi connectivity
This is one of the features you guys have been waiting for me to write about. I don't know who was complaining about the 3G, but here is my own experience..I went into the internet settings, there were no APNs setup for Maxis (expected). I made a new APN, defined the fields as I remembered them (I am used to setting up Maxis 3G APNs so I actually memorize all the fields)..Without having to redo this, I was already connected to the 3G connection in not more than 7 minutes. Then I said, this couldn't be just it. I have to find the flaw. I visited this forum (as recorded in YouTube) and you can judge it yourself already. I was connected for about 30 minutes. Browsed my emails, surfed some pages, checked facebook, wasted time on the browser and I had no connection timeout AT ALL! So much that my battery warned about having another 15 minutes. As for the Wifi, I don't want to talk about home Wifi..I tested PUBLIC Wifi! And it was also seemless! To be honest, I really didnt face any browsing issues AT ALL! Even on multiple open windows..I do agree that flash sites will load slower compared to static sites..As you can see in the video, LYN site was taking hardly 3 - 5 seconds to transit to the next page :)

Multitasking
The multitasking is good. Switching apps is fast. But thats about it. I have not tested with multiple background processes testing yet. But switching applications is really neat!

GMail
GMail on Nexus one has a slight difference from that on the HTC Hero. Not that much though. So far, I have noticed the nice way of notifying the process done. Still, I think this application can be improved a lot. Personally, I use GMail rather than POP3, and being a Google Phone, I expected much changes on the GMail client. Just one cool feature for example would have been HTML input support. Also, I haven't finalized this, but when forwarding an email, you can't edit the text that you are forwarding..I will have to verify this once again though.

POP3 E-mail
This feature will be tested soon as the phone is still charging.

Voice Cancellation
As you may have realized already, there are two microphones on the Nexus One. One at the bottom and one at the back near the camera. When talking on the phone, the second camera microphone captures the noise and cancels it out from the output. I did try this by the roadside and compared it with my Hero. While the noise really was reduced, the resulting sound was not that loud though. This means, if your friend is also in a noisy place, then he will have problems listening to you (unless you scream or shout of course..lol..)..One of the forum members also called me when I was playing with my Nexus One and at that time I was by the roadside..He didn't even realize it..Let him post a testimonial for this part :)

Camera & Camcorder
Have you ever used a camera that is ready to snap the next picture in less than 1 sec? Well, this is what I experienced as I was playing with the camera. The camera snaps focuses, snaps, and gets ready for the next image..All this in about 3 seconds only :) The camcorder reocorded video like a snap and also didnt have any noticable lags yet. SO far, its the best camera app on any mobile phone's I've seen.

GMaps
This feature is yet to be tested soon :)

Keyboard
This one is a great discussion! The keyboard sensitivity is remarkably improved! I almost didnt had any typos at all today! HOWEVER, the layout somehow has changed a bit and I prefer the HTC Hero's keyboard layout. Example, for a comma, you have to go into the special chars mode whereas in Hero, it was available in normal keyboard too. When you type long emails, you find this really annoying!

Rotation
If you have seen rotation on HTC Hero, Nexus One's rotation is going to surprise you ;) I want to keep the rest for your surprise! haha!

Functional Buttons
Okay guys, some of you read from other blogs about the functional buttons being hard to press? The answer is.....Right...and wrong :) Actually, the "area" covered for each button is rather small..I already set my mind as "Opps, too hard to press..They were right about this!" when I started using the Nexus One..But after a while, I got used to pressing it accurately, so now my answer is "Nope, it just needs a little practise ;)"

Voice to Text
To be honest, it sucks! No joke! LOL! I've never been a fond of VTT actually..In fact, after I root my N1, I will just unmount it maybe..lol..depends though..We are asians la..our accent is totally different..I tried "FM radio" on the VTT and it googled "F review" for me..After that I didnt bother to test further..LOL

Bluetooth File Transfer
Bluetooth was tested between the Nexus One and the macbook. I paired the device. A pairing I have never done before. Both macbook and Nexus One displayed the same pairing code (without my input!). I dont know how it happens. Unlike other bluetooths where I have to enter the pairing code, this didnt have to. After the auto-pairing, I transferred a few files at an average transfer speed of 130Kbps..It started off at 172Kbps then slowed down to 130Kbps thus maintaining the speed around that point..Not bad..Although I'm much of an SSH / FTP over Wifi fan since you can get speeds like 1 - 3 Mbps :P

AMOLED Screen
The amoled..Another MUST addition on the review..How can I miss that? This is very important!
The screen, really is SUPERB! There is a power controller widget which has these buttons:
1. Wifi
2. Bluetooth
3. GPS
4. Sync
5. Screen Brightness <-- This button is my favorite!

The screen brightness button dynamically changes the screen brightness..There are 3 levels..
First level is very dark..Excellent in uses when you are in a dark room (I used this in my bedroom yesterday and it was very relaxing to my eyes)..
Second level increases the brightness for normal brightness usage like indoor daytime usage..
Third level increases it even more..Thats for your outdoor usage..This brightness can actually be used in all conditions as its just makes the colors vivid!

Now, u must be wondering "where the hell did the auto-dim feature go?"..Its still there..Under those three levels, it does vary the brightness in those three levels too depending on the amount of light available..The button is for your own usage..For your own relaxation..Especially if you're a heavy user like me and will be using it over long hours :)

Under the sunlight, there is one drawback undeniably which is the sun glare on the screen..It was still useable though..
Comparing to Hero, Hero had less glare, but screen less bright compared to Nexus One..

Marketplace
I dont want the current Android users to be jealous, but the marketplace for Android 2.1 is seriously AWESOME! It is very well organized compared to the older market. Will start purchasing and downloading soon to see how efficient it is :)

Now, here are the answers for our personal testing list:

• Will get hot from extensive use with charger on and battery removed (If possible)
Updated: Guys, I have started to believe that the Nexus One does heat up over prolonged usage. I am not talking about plugging in the charger. I'm talking about normal usage on battery! Its not "HOT"..Its just "warm"..I used to have these heat ups on Hero as well, but Nexus One has slightly a little bit more than Hero..Perhaps due to its 1GHz processor vs 527MHz of Hero?

• Touchscreen malfunction while touching metal ring at back of phone
I have tried this. I didnt experience it at all. I even tried this while typing SMS or scrolling around. Nope, I didnt see anything of this sort at all.

• SatNav navigation in Malaysia (supposedly theres a work around)
Not yet tested

• Trackball sensitivity
Honestly, its quite similar if not same to HTC Hero. However, somehow when I'm typing a text, I can't use the trackball to place the cursor around where I want. I will re-confirm this with you guys though, but I experienced this the whole day!

• VOIP calls quality (3G and wifi)
Not tested yet. Got any solid aplication for testing? I believe there is no Skype app yet..?

• Quality and sound volume of speakers on handsfree calls and music (apparently too much treble and very soft)
I confirm this fact. Its not that huge of a matter yet, but I am believing under very noisy conditions, this will be heavily affected at that stage.

• Quality of Bluetooth connectivity
Yet to be tested :)

• 3G speed and quality (apparently likes to get out of 3G and switch to EDGE)
I saw this reported by several people too. So far I have not experienced this in 30 minutes usage. On the long run, we will have more results :)

Here is a set I made on Flickr. It has images of unboxing and a video of the 3G internet experience:

Nexus One Review by Bahathir

Ok, after several hours of uage, here is my initial first impression.

1) Look nice, and seem solidly build.
2) The texture of the N1's back, is about similar to my GPS, Garmin Nuvi 755T.
3) Aha, I got the engraved N1. It is a real engrave and it is not a paint coat.
4) I got Celcom 3G (voice+data plan), and with proper APN setting I got a 3G connection.
5) Connection wise, in my house@Balakong, seem to be similar what my Nokia E52. Yeah, I can get good 3G coverage, but, sometime it down to E or GPRS.Actually similar to my E52 and my wife's SE K770i. I'll try again if I going out later.
6) Yeah, the signal bar dropped 1 bar if I hold it.
7) The firmware/software version IS SAME AS the shahz's.
8) Since this is my first SMARTPHONE, I have to get used to it first ...
9) My first apps is... the 'Terminal Emulator'
10) I changed the scaling_governor for cpufreq from the ondemant to conservative. This make the N1 to set the cpu speed lean towards to much lower speed. I hope I can save a bit more of power.
11) Yeah it is 'warm' when, I do intensive browsing and settings.
12) I charged my N1 with my Nokia E52's charger ... Yes, it warm during the charging. It is warm, NOT the hot sizzling hot.. The warmess is about similar as my RAZR V3xx and E52.
13) Yeah, the 'hard buttons' on the bottom is not responsive as other places in the middle of the screen. BUT, I still use it comfortably as I get used to it.
14) N1 is running cool with USB charging. So the heat source is most probably from the high currnet (1A) battery charging from wall charger. IMHO... this is normal.

Ok, I already test the audio SQ very very briefly....
1) With my custom IEMs, UM Mages, the sound is ... flat, with no bump at any frequency spectrum,
2) To my ears, the bass and treble extension is not as wide as other high quality audio devices. BUT, still listenable
3) The audio ouput is just OK, and not as loud as my E52 and Sony Walkman X1000. This is might be the reason the sound is not as dynamic and extended as my Sony Walkman x1000.

I'll update this later.

As a person who just get to know Android and smartphone. My intial verdict : NICE. Actually it is about the same feeling when I use my friend's iPhone 3Gs.
As a hardcore GNU/Linux user : EXCELLENT!!!, excellent computing platform.

Ok... going back to Market

Thanks to shahz, irwan, ... that make this possible.
Thank you

LYN N1 Users' Hardcore complaints (Our very own UHC)
By shahz:
1. The ring speaker really needs improvement. Sound is not loud enough.

By redzanime:
1. The alarm sound is too soft, resulting me wake up by myself finding out its alreeady the time I start to work.

2. The battery drains too quickly. A single charge can last for about 14 hours.
Suggestion: Turn off the "GPS" and use a static wallpaper. You can earily regain about 40% of the battery ;)

3. Bad integration between phone contact, gmail and facebook. I like the Hero integration better.

4. Slow 3g connection for my Celcom postpaid+data service. Even the 512kbps wireless streamyx is much faster at my house.

How to ROOT your N1
As always, I will not be held responsible if your phone turns into a frying pan or a world war III executes.
And don't ask again WHY do you need to ROOT your phone because I am goin to explain here once and for all.

Root itself is the top most location of a folder structure. If you realize, without root, whenever you go into a filemanager, you can only access the sdcard. You cannot modify the system files or folders. So, to gain access to this, you need root access. Root allows super user access and this way, you will get unlimited posibilities of what you can do. Just immagine things this way, if I gave you a terminal computer which you can't change the program files or registry, there would be several things you may want to do but will not be able to do..so the concept is pretty much the same..

So, your phone has a locked bootloader built in it by Google. Actually, Google made this because they want you to unlock the phone and use it as you want. But they also want you to learn the consequences of what can happen if you flash it with a wrong OS. To root your phone, you can use fastboot or superboot (by Paul from Modaco)

I will be using the superboot method here and the resources are on Modaco so I will paste links here. You need to have an account at Modaco.com which is of course free :) I will not upload files here because:
1. Modaco rights have to be protected
2. You will need to determine the version that you can run

First, flash the phone with the superboot image file. Get it from here (if the link breaks, let me know):
http://android.modaco.com/content/google-n...-the-nexus-one/
You must also determine which version of superboot you need to execute. The instructions are crystal clear in that thread. At this point, you already have root. The next steps are optional.

Next, flash the Amon-Ra recovery image:
http://android.modaco.com/content/google-n...recovery-image/

Finally, install the cyanogen mod and see your Nexus one FLYINGGGGG!
http://android.modaco.com/content/google-n...online-kitchen/

And..if you are sooooo noob that you don't even bother to adventure a bit and/or are super lazy to read, here is a spoonfeeding tutorial for you..But seriously, use the above steps and do your homework..We want you to LEARN..not just get what you could..

Never regretted the decision of spending quite a hefty sum (at least for me sweat.gif rclxub.gif ) for a phone with my N1! Loving it more and more each

day! N1 set the benchmark for all current android phones and I would think the next phone for me would be somewhere along the lines of N2 (or

something similar that would create next level benchmarks for Android) and I would think that would be somewhere next two years the earliest. N1 is

that awesome! wub.gif

You can get it from a lot of places actually, but you will end up going on a custom ROM anyway, so why bother? biggrin.gif

i don't really like the interface of the MIUI rom and i would like to try the stock rom first before i go to custom rom.

so that's the reason i want to flash it back to stock ROM.

and 1 more thing, how do i go into recovery mode? and there are two types of recovery i found from the net, custom and stock. how do i revert back to stock receovery?

i kinda want my n1 to work like is the 1st time out of the box now. and mine is still lock bootloader.

lol..you're kidding me right? How can you have a custom ROM flashed, with a custom recovery, and still have a locked bootloader?

Btw, you can visit modaco.com or xda-dvelopers.com and find a method to go stock there..Leave your current recovery..The stock recovery is not a recovery..Its just a "blank slot"..

just download the stock Froyo 2.2, put in memory card, and flash it in recovery....
all should work...

* it's not advisable for u to go back 2.1 (original nexus one firmware, b4 update to froyo)
bcos u need to flash the radio to old radio as well.....
flashing radio can be very dangerous ...

please provide more info on yr phone...
what recovery u r using??
what rom??
what build number....??

Radio is the firmware that holds your connectivity stuff and there are too many stable ROMs out there to try..Since you have tried MIUI, you may want to give cyanogen mod a shot..

so you are saying that if we flash the wrong radio, we might end up with useless phone?

so how do we know which radio is suitable for us?

will try cyanogen out once i have the chance.

If that nexus one battery output is 1000, that is 3rd parts battery from another manufacturer, original nexus one battery is 1400mh

Me neither. Was hoping that CM6.1 would have app2ext but it didnt and Cyanogen's tweet on a2sd implementation caused some backlash on XDA. I'll steer clear from CM for the time being. MIUI all the way! thumbup.gif

No way..The ROM is too bulky..We are much concerned about keeping the ROM slim and sturdy wink.gif I've overclocked my N1 to 1.5GHz max..Didn't dare to clock it any higher..I run at 998MHz on my normal days..

But thats not the best option. You must remember, for a2SD, you need a compatible kernel too that does its job seemlessly smile.gif

No doubts, I've been using MIUI ever since that cleave has made me jealous..Now I'm MIUI all the way running with ADW launcher..Super steady..No complaints..No BS stuff..Just one nice neat, simple, ROM..

Only thing that sucks is its abit too iPhonish.. ☹ I love their first ever version still..

Of course I can simply run Darktremor's script for a2ext on CM6, but that's not really the point. If you look at the predecessors of CM6 (namely, the awesome 5.08), the a2ext implemented in those versions is not just some script you execute post-ROM installation. The a2ext feature is built into the ROM framework. That is just something that sets apart Cyanogen's work from all the other custom ROMs. And when that feature is absent in the 6.x, it was just a huge downer. To make matters worst, CM6 doesnt play well with the native Froyo A2SD. That's my main gripe with CM6, if you have just a handful of apps and your internal mem is adequate to house them, then CM6 is an awesome ROM. I have like 300+ apps at a time and I certainly need the a2ext+. So if I need to hack DarkTremor's script into a ROM, then why dont I just use some other ROM with the script already pre-installed by default? That why I stuck with LeoFroyo until MIUI came out. MIUI just blew my mind away. A working FM radio (without any of that SenseUI crap), Darktremor's A2SD, that supercool notification bar and of course those cryptic untranslated or mistranslated random strings. Like shahz, I run ADW and do away with that iPhone-ish looks. sweat.gif

Exactly what I'm tryin to say..I just see that CM is getting bulky with stuff that you don't really want to use sometimes..I know, the Android development team keep forking out new stuff like flash lights and what not, but I just want a clean ROM that has nothing rubbish and sits in perfectly on my phone, unleashing the real beast under its hood..

To me, MIUI delivers exactly that..Besides, I never really hated iPhone for its interface anyway..I always agreed that iPhone had a better eye-candy..Now, I have both in my phone..Power + looks.. smile.gif

MIUI is the best and most stable Android rom I have tested so far on my htc HD2. NOrmally I do not recommend any specific Android roms for the htc HD2 but I broke my rule, and I highly recommended this MIUI. The MIUI rom is 99.9999 % perfect, it never crashes, never freeze - works perfectly without any issues.
Alas I have sold off my Nexus for the half baked Galaxy S (which I also sold off after less than a month). Till now I would say the Nexus is the BEST android phone I have used to date . Those using it please KEEP it especially with Gingerbread on the way.

QUOTE(cleave @ Nov 15 2010, 06:25 PM)
Like shahz, I run ADW and do away with that iPhone-ish looks.  sweat.gif

i need help....

i got more than 300 apps in my phone also...still in 5.0.8 with app2ext.
planning to flash CM6.1...

froyo got a2sd, it should have no limit on memory...should be more than enough memory rite?? y still need a2ext??

Cos I want a bigger screen ; so used to the 4.3 of HD2 thought the 4" Galaxy S will be better. Now I am using 5" Dell Streak and I love it though it is not so responsive as the Nexus but is miles ahead better than the Galaxy S.

The only great thing I find about the Galaxy S is the beautiful S Amoled display. Other than that the rest is mediocre - slow launch of programs, miserable file access taking up to 3 to 5 secs, hopeless and unreliable GPS . Have tried to convince myself to keep it updating with lag fix solutions, even Froyo roms etc but still disappointing; any gains were marginal. My unit came with the 3 buttons disabled ( meaning unable to go direct to download mode ) a great inconvenience when comes to flashing roms. Even my HD2 on Android performs better than it

@benny888, how come you're not tempted with Desire HD? Is it because of you have Android on your HD2? tongue.gif

@davidwyl
That was my exact thought when I first flashed to CM6. I thought I could live with Froyo A2SD. 150+ apps later, I discovered how wrong I was. It was all fine when the app count was like 100+ or so. When it hit 150, things started to go awry. I had missing app icons in the drawer everytime I mount the phone as a USB storage, although TiB reported that the app is installed. And sometimes when I rebooted the phone, the only apps that loaded properly was the ones on the internal memory. It was kinda annoying as the only way to fix it was through uninstall/re-install procedure. FAT32 is not exactly the best filesystem out there for a 'read' operation, especially when the space it had to 'seek' is large, it'll just failed miserably. Even Microsoft themselves abandoned FAT32 as an OS filesystem when they launched WinXP back in 2000. Add that unreliability to the way Froyo A2SD stores apps. It doesnt just move the apps to the SD. No, no Froyo A2SD encrypts the apps too. So, that decryption process whenever you access an app on Froyo A2SD plus the FAT32 incompetence when seeking through a whole load of apps equates to disaster that bound to happen. If you want CM6.x and you have lots of apps, consider manually installing Darktremor's A2SD or use a bundled CM6 distribution like Kang-O-Rama or RoDrIgUeZsTyLe LimeMod, the ones that come with app2ext. Steer clear of Froyo A2SD. It is just not made to handle massive amount of apps. It'll just crumble under the weight.

Finally, Google's CEO Eric Schmidt show off the Nexus S at the Web 2.0 Summit. So all the rumours of a 2nd Gen Nexus is indeed correct. Anyway it does not look like the Samsung Galaxy model. Salivate it at the site below:

Nexus one club, awesome! It's not sold here so I thought no one uses it... Anyone knows where I can get a case? Mine is broken sad.gif

Easiest way to root? If you're using stock rom, I rooted mine by downloading Universal Androot - apparently can even 'unroot'. Just download from the market, open and hit the root button.

You can convert the partition from within the clockwork recovery itself actually. That's one thing I don't like about clockwork actually. The partitioning utility kinda sucks!

need some help from those using miui...
i flashed my miui, all working fine...enable a2ext using Terminal Emulator ..

but when i start to install app, the app go in to my internal memory.
how can i install app into a2ext? or is there any option for me to turn it on?
*
Can you verify this? I mean is your internal memory shrinking after you do an install or something? When you use A2SD, the sd-ext part is seen as logical internal memory by the OS. So, app installation should be to the internal memory. The only exception is if its a system app, then it'll go to the system's apps directory which is on the physical internal memory unless you explicitly moved it.

QUOTE(lloyd1030 @ Nov 25 2010, 01:59 PM)
I have a question. Is SPL on going to affect you when flashing ROM or recovery using fastboot? I keep getting verify signature failed when flash using fastboot command.
*
What kept getting the signature error? A ROM or a recovery when flashing through fastboot? If it's the former, check the package again whether it is signed or otherwise.

i understand the fact that ext partition is seen as a internal memory, the problem is everytime i install apps, my phone internal memory will reduce not the ext partition. ...
i believe i enable it properly. ...

Anybody experincing a very fast battery drain for the past few days? I had to charge my nexus one 3 times yesterday. And i only made several short calls n texting..charged 3 times n yet i was totally out of juice by 8 pm..
Is it because of an update coming in? Gingerbread perhaps? Anybody had the same problem?

How did it go.. same day service? Charge?

Mine broke a while ago so I rooted my N1 in order to use trackball wake and screen lock widget. A friend will go on a 2-day visit to Singapore next week so I'm thinking. Would appreciate your feedback.

Hi guys i just wanna make a recommendation try this rom MM Desire SuperHybrid rom v2.14 as it works perfectly including hd recoding with some minor tweaks as well as reduced battery consumption by using only 925mV .However i noticed that it consumes alot of memory space so before you download other apps for it i suggest to get memory booster to free up some space but the experience with this rom itself is really nice =) Please guys if you have any really nice roms to share please let me know here =)

Second that. Invest a bit in LauncherPro Plus and you get to further customize the homescreen. Think Windows Phone 7 tongue.gif Its good to have choices

Even MIUI can switch between ADW/stock/LauncherPro with ease smile.gif I can't immagine how fast(er) a ROM can be than this MIUI, but I'll give it a shot..SenseUI has no chance over empty ROM though..That's what my experience with Sense so far has explained.. happy.gif

Guys i'm downloading CyanogenMod-6.1 RC2 from Rom Manager now. First time downloading ROM. It's moving slowly, but does it really take that long? blink.gif

I've finally finished downloading this ROM. Then i choose Install from Sd Card and it prompted me whether i want to backup my current ROM and clear/wipe data and cache. So i checked both box and it rebooted.

But it the exclamation mark with the android logo appeared. What have i done wrong?

Hi bro's i did a quadrant test for this two roms and here is the score

MM desire super hybrid v2.14 1353
Miui RodriguezsTyle 1335/1374

The MM desire super hybrid scored higher then a stock froyo however i only made one attempt earlier but the miui on the other hand i made 2 attempts the first was 1335 which was lower then the stock froyo on N1 but the second one was even faster then desire super hybrid and also based on the responsiveness i would say the miui is probably the most responsive rom out there but i would not dismiss the super hybrid just yet cz its a very stable and one of the fastest sense rom's out there but one flaw i have 2 admit regarding the superhybrid rom that it consumes alot of storage space which gives the miui another plus point but overall if u love htc sense this is probably the fastest sense rom out there but the miui on the other hand offers a very unique ui overhaul not seen in other roms so yeah 2 sum it up both are awesome and worth to try =)

You are right but it is faster then stock froyo but yeah the miui is still more responsive and faster but the desire hybrid considering its size isn't too bad either thanks for the miui recommendation now i got 2 fav roms but i think i wanna revert 2 sense in time 2 come =)

maybe can try Enomther's TheOfficial Nexus1 - v2.14.4..
is by fast one of the fastes rom i tried. average score 1500...without overclock and i got >300 apps installed.
battery life so so, not great. on average use around 16 - 17 hours.

for those like Miui layout, i believe it's one of the best rom for u.

Thank's for asking bro. Finally figured it out last nite. It seems that I need to put the zip files to the root of my sd card first, den Flash ClockworkMod Recovery first, den Reboot into Recovery. Haha. I thought i downloaded the Cyanogen files from my phone edi, but it seems that it was in another folder and i have to put it in the root of sd card manually.

Anyways, just flashed Cyanogen 6.1 RC2. Yay thumbup.gif

Yes MIUI is awesome - it is still the best and most stable on my HD2 . Unbelievably slick and very fast. Absolutely no lags or screen freezes.
I have sold off my Nexus but I believe it'll be equally good too on the Nexus

Bro bass, i used this one click rooting method 2 days ago to root my nexus FRG83D.. it works.. biggrin.gif

Souce : The Unlockr

I. Before You Begin

1. This should work on a variety of different phones. The only phones that it does NOT work on so far are:

Sprint EVO 4G (HTC Supersonic)
Droid Incredible (HTC Incredible)
HTC Desire GSM
HTC Desire CDMA (HTC BravoC)
HTC Aria
Droid Eris (HTC DesireC)
HTC Wildfire (HTC Buzz)
HTC Legend
MyTouch Slide

For those phones head here and click on the specific phone for that procedure.

2. This procedure gives you root access on your phone, in order to load a custom ROM, please do this procedure then continue to the next procedure for your specific device at the end of this procedure.

3. This currently only works on Windows computers. If you do not have a Windows computer, please find a friend with a Windows computer to do this (I guarantee you have at least one).

4. You must have Microsoft .NET framework 2.0 or higher. If not, download it from here (32 bit) or here (64 bit).

THANKS AndroidPolice for the Tip!
THANKS CLShortFuse for the super easy program!
II. Root the Phone

1. Download and install the latest version of the rooting program, unzip it, and install it on your computer:

One Click Rooting Program

2. On your phone, go to Settings > Applications > Development > Make sure USB Debugging is checked ON.

3. Plug your phone in via USB cable to the computer.

4. Right click the program and click Run As Administrator (or just double click it if using Windows XP).

5. Click the Root button and wait for it to finish.

6. Once done, you should see superuser permissions in your phone’s apps. If so, you are all set!
III. (Optional) Enable WiFi Tethering

1. Once you have root access, you can install WiFi tethering for your phone. Head to the WiFi tethering site and download the appropriate version for your phone (if your phone is not listed, they do not currently support your model):

WiFi Tethering .apk

2. Then save it to your phone’s SD Card.

3. Download Linda File Manager (free) from the Market on your phone and open it.

4. Navigate to where the .apk file is saved on your phone’s memory card and click it to install it.

5. When you open the WiFi tethering app for the first time, click Allow when Superuser pops up asking for permission. All set!
IV. (Optional) Load a Custom Recovery Image/ROM

1. To load a custom ROM you need a custom recovery image. Please click the procedure below to load a custom recovery image onto your phone:

How To Flash a Custom ROM (ROM Manager Method)

Hi guys sorry im still bit noob here but i got a question i want to mount the htc desire hd rom into my phone but one of the steps is to create a sd-ext partition...anyone can recommend any software or guide me how to do it?? i have flashed some rom's b4 the conventional way its not a problem but i think this rom is a bit big so i need to create partition anyone can kindly guide me  thanks =)
*
u can create partition in recovery itself...no need to use computer....

but if u want to to creat using computer, u can run linux live CD in yr pc, boot into linux, and partition it from yr pc...(forget about this step if u not familiar with linux)

Yep..You can ☺ To use the best MIUI English version, search for "Rodriguez MIUI" on xda-developer.com smile.gif

For partition: You can use recovery to partition your sd card smile.gif

Yep..Something like that..Partiotioning will benefit A LOT to you..On computers, we partition to separate our DATA from the system and applications..But its the other way round on Android..On Android, our mission is to separate the APPLICATIONS instead..

Once you have enabled A2SD (Applications To SD storage), your applications will be saved on the SD card instead of the phone..That will free more space on your phone's internal RAM and hence your phone will perform better..Not only that, since SD card has huge space, you can choose how much you want to allocate for applications and as a result, you can install lots and lots and lots more applications smile.gif

1.do nanroid backup
2.copy all yr files in sd card to pc.....
4.if u want to backup files inside ext partition, u can use any linux live cd (im using ubuntu) to boot in yr pc, and copy all the file in ext partition to pc. (by doing this u no need to reinstall all yr apps later)
5. format it inside recovery, u can see 1024mb. OR u can format it inside linux live cd that i mentioned above.
6. copy all backup files in yr card... ext one to ext partition, sd-card one to sd-card.
7. put back in to yr phone and boot.

for those who want to upgrade sd-card also can use this way...
it work for me...i upgraded from 8gb to 16gb b4 few week back.

rooted...for those who use a2ext....

if u r using froyo a2sd, i believe u can just copy all yr files to yr pc and paste into new sd-card.
the app should be there....(i never tried this b4..maybe someone can confirm it.)

Use ADB to achieve this. Fro streamyx, this would be:

CODE
adb shell setprop net.dns1 202.188.0.133
adb shell setprop net.dns2 202.188.1.5

If taht doesn't do the trick, try this:

CODE
adb shell setprop dhcp.eth0.dns1 202.188.0.133
adb shell setprop dhcp.eth0.dns2 202.188.1.5

Strange enough to see someone having to keyin DNS for internet though, but oh well..

Btw, I'm running Gingerbread on my Nexus One..So far no issues..Everything seems stable enough..

depend on the price.
rare phone...2nd hand price can be high. unless someone hate N1. biggrin.gif

if u plan to play around with custom rom. N1 will be perfect phone, dozens roms available. and well support by developer.

commenting in this thread is like entering the shrine of sifus.

Anyway, I wanna know what's the difference of the backup from Titanium Backup and Rom Manager's backup option?

I sort of understand that the backup option in ROM manager is actually a Nandroid backup that backs up the entire ROM, am I right? But does this backup include the apps and smses and stuff? I've made a backup using ROM Manager and it's about 800MB big.

Rooted my Desire Z and trying out to figure out the best way to make a backup before flashing a custom ROM.

You kidding bro? Of course its worth it! While the whole Android Nation is waiting to get some Froyo goodness, we are waiting for Gingerbread which will be out very soon now (I am already even running it!). Even after almost one year, the Nexus One still feels like brand new device and the fun is never ending. What device would you like to compare with it? Bring it on smile.gif

Titanium Backup - Backups all your applications and settings on your phone memory to the SD card
ROM Manager - This is called nandroid. Its an "image" of your phone of the particular state. If you restore this, your phone will return to exactly that state where you backed it up. EVERY SINGLE THING. and yes, it does include apps and smses - everything that is on your phone.

You would restore the Titanium Backup after a successful ROM flash. You would restore the nandroid if something fails or goes wrong - or the ROM that you are using doesn't fit your flava..

that explains the need to make a titanium backup. Forgot about the issue and flashed CM6.1.1. Softkeys did not work. Restored nandroid backup and the 2 levels i advanced in angry birds today disappeared cry.gif.

So if i happen to flash some update.zip files that are supposed to tinker with the phone (like a trackpad wake hack), and if I don't like it, restoring the nandroid backup will effectively 'remove' the trackpad wake hack, right?

Much like the system restore function on Windows, but a FULL 100% backup?

I know the awesomeness of n1 that's why I'm planning to swap my legend to this; just that there's nexus S, desire HD and probably dual core android devices coming out soon.

Saw some n1 sales thread in garage sales, and my Legend kinda limiting the capabilities of Android, that's why I have the thought to get one

Use ADB to achieve this. Fro streamyx, this would be:

CODE
adb shell setprop net.dns1 202.188.0.133
adb shell setprop net.dns2 202.188.1.5

If taht doesn't do the trick, try this:

CODE
adb shell setprop dhcp.eth0.dns1 202.188.0.133
adb shell setprop dhcp.eth0.dns2 202.188.1.5

Strange enough to see someone having to keyin DNS for internet though, but oh well..

Btw, I'm running Gingerbread on my Nexus One..So far no issues..Everything seems stable enough..

im sorry about all the stupid questions. but how do you access the adb? is it in the older threads?

I carry 2 spare batteries on a daily basis. Low to moderate use of the internet, mails, calls and text. Guess the old batteries already showing signs of degradation as it is about 1 year old.

You can test the AOSP-based ROM if you can't wait? Its more or less stable already. Go to xda to check it out.

What cekpo mentioned was that he is not using stock SMS app.
I'm on Handcent and never used the stock SMS from day one. Using stock ROM. I only noticed my phone is rather erratic when I have opened too many applications.

Previously, I'm using Handcent, but I'm currently using ChompSMS (due to the compability with EasySMS). Reading about the bug makes me worried a lot, especially when I'm sending personal messages to my gf lol.

But trust me, when this problem happen to me, I'll change my phone instantly, doesn't matter which brand but definitely not Android anymore (at least untill the bug fixed).

Hi All,

Just rooted my phone yesterday. Have been spending months to read about rooting and flashing roms then now only i have the courage to do it.

But i still have 1 unanswered question, maybe some of you can clear things up for me?

I'm confuse about Nandroid backup. Does the backup save everything including the stock ROM(for my case) and the kernel?? Or it only backup my ROM??

A Nandroid backup basically saves everything thats in the internal memory and the NAND memory. Meaning your settings, widgets, contacts, whatever was installed is backed up. When you restore it it will exactly be as before.

i use sms backup app, quite useful it will backup automatically to GMAIL under SMS label whenever you send or receive sms.
but then you cannot restore back to your phone though.

at least you have a copy of it in your gmail.

Added on January 5, 2011, 3:25 pmcan we get repair by local handphone repair shop?

since nexus one is quite a rare phone in malaysia, wonder they know how to fix or not. does htc desire has the similar power button like nexus one?

Gingerbread is still not completely working yet, (its main problem now is you have to choose either video recording or HQ youtube, if one works the other one will not). But it sure is fast, and people have been releasing CM7 previews already. So if you just want to try it out, feel free tongue.gif

MIUI is what I'm using atm, its fast enough and looks smooth.

if still can work...root it now.
use track ball awake phone, and to turn off screen u can use lock screen wodget.
with that 2 apps, u no need to use yr power button except to power-on yr phone.

it will reduce the frequency of using the power button.

for my case, i hardly use my power button.

I heard that the problem with the power button exists only on the early batch of Nexus One. Is it true? Coz I've also seen a guy who broke his power button in just a few months. I've also seen another guy who always uses his power button non stop and it still working fine.

There is actually no official stock Gingerbread at the moment, so only way to try out GB is to get custom ones.

I'm waiting for official CM7 now, otherwise I aint switching to GB tongue.gif

basically, the a2sd in froyo allow u to move apps into sd card yet there still will be some files remain in phone memory...(bear in mind, not all apps can be move to sd.)

if u run out of phone memory...u have to use app2ext....(a lot custom rom support this)
u have to create a ext partition on yr memory card....

not sure how yr setup on yr phone and which rom u r using now....therefore dont really get yr question...provide more info if u could.

Rumors are aplenty here and there, so the word of one person by mouth is hard to believe. Anyways, CM7 nightlies are already released, which is better than the stock Gingerbread anyways tongue.gif

Hey there, I just figured out that Im experiencing a defective power button, whenever my phone goes standby I couldn't wake it up whereas when its power off I couldn't switch it on. The thing is this is a USA set I have no idea how does the warranty works here. I heard that I can root it so I can replace power button's function with trackball. If I don't plan to root, is there any other method? Please send me some guides, thanks a lot smile.gif great day ahead!

Need some help here. My N1 just gone haywire this morning sad.gif

- My N1 LED on top left always in Blue color during standby (normall there's no LED light), and Purple color during charging (normally is Red color)

- At first, we can't hear each other whenever ppl calling me or I calling other ppl, but when i attach a hands free, the phone conversation will be back to normal. But now, whenever ppl calls in, my N1 will auto reject the call, but i still can call out with hands free attached. SMS functioning as normal, no issue.

- All my games, music, or even pressing Numpad on phone has no sound at all. But the sound is there when i'm using the hands free.

- Home button and Search button is not functioning.

Anyone having this problem before? Any idea how to solve this? I'm on v2.2.1 when encounter this problem. Updated to 2.2.2 just now but the problems are still there.

P/S: I'm using stock ROM all the while, no modding done before.

Guys, need help here. I've rooted my N1 and flashed recovery-RA-passion-v2.2.1.img and already done Nandroid backup.

I tried to install cm_passion_full-40 into my N1 and success. But when i reboot my N1, it wont boot properly, and the Cyanogen(mod)7 loading screen keep loading-stopped-reloading.

Anyone can provide a clue what's happening? How can i resolve this? I'm on Android v2.2.2 before rooting my N1.

Thanks!

Thank for the wifi help. Because I am using whatsapp, everytime I on my phone, suddenly gotfew message come together, like it never on all the while.

There are 3 option in wifi policy, off wifi when off phone, never off, and never off when charging. So limited options. Anyway, thank very much.

Suddenly have this question, after root, can we unroot? Like restore to original? Or at least when GB2.3 is out i can try the offcial rom of GB 2.3, or i jusy stock to custom rom? I felt i wanna to try MIUI rom

Google for cm7 gapps and download the zip file. Or search around xda to double check if you downloaded the correct gapps.

Now, put that in your sdcard, full wipe again, flash the cm nightly, then flash the gapps zip file just like how you flash the Rom. By now you would have all the Google apps, including the option to sync your gmail. smile.gif

Actually flashing the gapps pack alone will do..No need wipe and flash the previous version..Provided the current ROM doesn't have any gapps pack..

Thanks for the tips. But I've tried 3 different Gapps but my N1 seems can't boot up properly, it only manage to boot unto "Welcome to Nexus One" with Android green robot screen, the it will reboot with Cyanogen Mod 7 loading screen. This process repeat again and again...

The CM7 Gapps pack that I've tried:

1st -> gapps-hdpi-20101114-signed
2nd -> gapps-mdpi-tiny-20101020-signed
3rd -> gapps-mdpi-20101020-signed

Did I miss anything during the process? I've restore to stock ROM, then reload with CM7 ROM and install the CM7 Gapps above, but come out the same result.

Thanks.

HONEYCOMB on Nexus ONe - interesting development and great potential

QUOTE : To start things off, I downloaded the ROM from XDA-Developers to my sdcard. Once complete I rebooted into recovery and performed a full backup (so I co revert later), then did a full wipe/factory data reset. From that point all that was left was to flash the .zip and reboot.

Since this is a port from the Honeycomb SDK the stock "Android" boot logo is displayed. The first boot was surprisingly fast, and before I knew it I was looking at the Honeycomb screen, just like we've seen in videos of the Motorola XOOM tablet.

This is just a port, so some important things aren't working yet. Things like Wi-Fi, the phone, and audio, even the app drawer doesn't layout properly. Things are generally "laggy" due to lack of drivers and optimizations for the Nexus One.

Could you use this as your daily driver? Currently, no way. This i simply a proof of concept that it can be done. Now that it was, it's really only a matter of time before someone actually does make a fully functional ROM.

UPDATE:

Already installed the update. Nice black notification bar. I LIKE. And the animation is much smoother. Still playing with Gingerbread. XD

Have anyone upgraded  to Gingerbread using this link? Possible to do it on stock rom?

UPDATE:

Already installed the update. Nice black notification bar. I LIKE. And the animation is much smoother. Still playing with Gingerbread. XD

Last time update using stock rom (unroot). After update, it looks like I have much more space in rom. Not to mention faster and smoother.

Just love the Google Maps, updated to 5.2.0. Pair it with KeepScreen = Great!

cheap cheap, 1.3k haha damn good price for me.

and wanted to play around with other gingerbread roms, but before that want to try out the official 2.3

imo, there is so many developers developing all these homecooked roms that I jus had to try it out,

unmatched manpower assist for N/O, thats why i went back.

thought of samsung nexus s, but it was not so practical because i used the vibrant d, so like hardware almost same same and the price is still 2k.

still need to get enuf resources to buy the sgs2 when i need, may around the 3-4th week march smile.gif

Hey guys, I am on MIUI rom,

after I installed the rom manager, it showed stock images that can help to revert back to stock phone image.

in there it showed 2 options, nexus one FRF91, I think thats 2.2.
and it had a mini description stating Odexed (Rooted or stock options)

so can i actually reflash back to the original image??

Added on March 7, 2011, 11:28 amdownloading now the image, then il try and see whether it bricks it.

something to ask here.....dunno whether you all face this problem or not....
recently juz got my nexus one updated to gingerbread....but after the updated i encounter some problem.

1) Unstable 3G connection - somehow or rather the 3G connection will just disappear for no reason. Every time when this happen, i have to turn to flight mode, then change back normal mode, then the 3G connection is back. This is quite annoying.

2) Email - Im currently using the default Email apps for my office emailing purposes. After updated to gingerbread then i found that my email account are not able to refresh to get the latest email anymore. To solve this i have to turn my N1 off and on again to get this solve. But after several hours then the problem occur again.

I just wonder is anyone else face the problems like what I did and kindly share with me if you have any solutions.

hey people, just in case u have a damaged power button like me, u dont have to go down to singapore to get the replacement. u can go to sis dist in imbi, apparently after calling them they ONLY stock replacement nexus one power buttons. They are willing to fix all nexus one's that are not under their warranty but at a fee of almost rm200. so theres an alternative to going down to sg.

I really find our n1 gingerbread have bugs. All only happen occasionally. Will okay after restart.
1. Unable to see caller I'd
2. Unable to see unlock pattern when unlocking screen
3. Unable to flip the other page
4. Loss of wifi connection eventhough I just few cm away from my modem.
5. Screen freeze.

Those are the bugs I met.

power button failure is hardware defect, nothing got to do with ROM
*
how come its a hardware defect when N1 can power on/off as usual when i roll it back to 2.2.2? Again when my N1 is on 2.3.3 the power on button is a permanent problem?????

I can bet anyone N1 owners who is still on 2.3.3 gonna experience power button issue. Its all about timing. Some unit did happen right after update..some few weeks later. But so long as google people out there just sit down doing nothing..your time will come.

apparently some owners are experiencing this power button failure upon update but only a few, however most of the power failure issues were already nested before gingerbread rolled out, including mine. chances are if it coincided with the update it is a bug. but if it happens gradually over time (deteriorated use), its almost always a hardware failure.if such refer to my post in page 20 for solutions.

i think there's a blog somewhere written about the cause of power button failure and how to change/repair it.

if HTC charged less than RM200 i think it's fair enough since the replacement part cost more than RM100.

replacement part

Gingerbread is the root cause for power button failure on N1. I managed to power up N1 and straigh forward roll thedevice back to 2.2.2. Now works like charm. So google people out there...please fit this bugs pretty fast ok!!!!

for those who use rooted phone, try this...work great on me.
basically it will increase the read speed from sd card.
load gallery faster than ever after apply it.

u dont need to sync your apps and setting, all will auto backup to cloud.
if u need it, u can use android-sync www.android-sync.com .......

CM7 is a custom ROM base on original gingerbread.

ya...flash CM7 on after i post the question. now running on CM7.1.0 RC1 (android version 2.3.4) with app-to-ext

i feel CM7.1 is a really good rom....very very smooth. o far so good.

the only problem with me now is running low on /data memory.

everything about nexus one is good except low internal memory.
if u are apps junkies, surely u'll run out of memory in no-time.

many of the new apps is not design for low memory phone cos the apps will store a lot of data in the phone /data partition.
for example igo took 19mb, adobe air took 10mb, adobe flash took 8mb, skype took 5mb, and many other apps.
FYI, nexus one only have only about 200mb on /data partition.

u will never have enough memory in nexus one,
but if u need a phone to play around, flash around, and understand about android...Nexus one is 110% a good phone.

hey david u could try apps like apps2sd i think or something of that sort, it transfers yr apps/data to yr sd card...
me i' have 1 gb of installing space, extra memory (swap)to play with
and another 300mb for ....cant remember -cause phone out of battery atm

or maybe there are limitations to cm7...
*edited* errr i think i have seen it done on cm7
look for it and yr problem should be solved...
but the bad news is u have to flash the rom again lol

me i' have 1 gb of installing space, extra memory (swap)to play with
and another 300mb for ....cant remember -cause phone out of battery atm

or maybe there are limitations to cm7...
*edited* errr i think i have seen it done on cm7
look for it and yr problem should be solved...
but the bad news is u have to flash the rom again lol
*
im using app2ext since the 1st day i got my nexus one.
all apps installed in 2nd partition on my sd card.
install apps in sd card not going to solve the memory low in /data partition, bcos most of the apps will still store some of their databases and lib files in /data partion.
There is a way to move /data to sdcard by using S2E (Market link), but it is not advisable. this is bcos moving /data to sdcard will make phone lag.

hmmm low in data?not if u r using rods/qnd xpart
i have 4 partitions in my sd card and if i'm not wrong i should have 1gb of internal memory for apps

slow-agree with u...but not to the extent of slow like a snail..

of course it also depends on the sd card class that you are having..
i'm using class 6 i think

Added on August 10, 2011, 10:06 amthe only problem i have right now is unable to move my dalvic to external....haizzz sien...each time i do that i end up with fc ahhahaha

give me some time~!!~!~!!@#$@@!

LOL....actually i gave up on trying to move my dalvic cache...tho there are still others who succeeded...without having to try so hard...

oh ya did i mention i have extra few hundred mb in swap on one of the partitions....

if u use multipartitions it wont be slow anymore
it would be faster than the internal memory
but i stand corrected tho...only tried on my phone and discussed with some other ppl..

To move dalvik cache to sdcard, perhaps u can try this method.

I did it on my N1 and managed to free up /data partition from 20+ MB to 100+ MB. smile.gif

Hey guys , how much you guys can get in quadrant score ? Mine flashed CM7 only get 1200++ without installing apps yet.

Added on August 14, 2011, 4:52 pmAnd in CM7. I'm having problem with the GPS. The Papago X5 and also Aura can't be used since GPS can't locate my postion. I googled it and saw a method.
Dial ##clrxgps# in dialpad but how ? I actually dial ##2579477# but no respond. According to the forum , the device shud reboot and show up smth for us to choose. Any idea to solve GPS issue ?

My phone kinda died this morning. I left it with 30% left on the battery last night and now the phone won't even charge (no led light). Hopefully it's just the battery.

Does anyone has any advice? Or does anyone knows someone who sells Nexus One battery in this forum?

Suddenly my phone is OK, I'm not sure what happened, it's as if the phone was being charged (100% bar), but the LED light was not turned on and the phone itself cannot be turned ON during the charging.

This is the 2nd time it happened. Hopefully I won't let the battery reach 0% next time.

my first guess would be yr charging led is burnt,u could verify it first.

not recommended to reach 0%, u get lots of other problems..
i had my rom fc on me very frequently-so had to do nandroid restore this and that bal bal bla

u also could try removing the battery whilst charging and putting it back.it should start your phone in the process.

I'm using Cyanogenmod 7. Not sure if it's the ROM, this has happened to me twice and my LED didn't go crazy, it's just died for a few hours (so is the phone too).

I had that experience once! one fine morning I cant switch on my phone, so I thought no battery, then went and charge it, no response. I try another powerpoint, plug and unplug a few times only can see the charging orange light on. *phew*

Once rooted, you can't unroot it. Besides, if you could, you still wouldn't be able to get the official Google Android OS.

BUT! Now that it is rooted, you can install so many MODs that are much better than the official one. I'm using Cyanogen and IMHO it's the best!

Helloooo.... blush.gif Time flies so fast, and now so many Android super fast phones out there. Am still using my N1 and

sold off my Desire HD. Still play the waiting game for the next big thing from HTC. Phones nowadays are super-fast

(supposedly I think) but waiting for HTC's next offerings using the quad-core processors. Samsung has been great

with their various offerings nowadays, but not a fan for their TouchWiz interface and not too mention the glossy

finishings. I prefer HTC's matte/fade black/grey finishing. Smooth, clean and simple looking. tongue.gif

i used to have a similar problem but it was resolved when i subscribed to a data plan. the AGPS downloaded with an internet connection tremendously aids in gps locking. i have used fasterfix before n i can safely say that agps is far superior. one way of checking how recent your agps data is by using GPS Status from market. Basically the more recent your agps data, the faster ur phone will lock in the gps.
