If ever your N8 failed to boot up (mean pressing the power button but no response), do as follow:
1. Verify is it a SW hang by long press the power button >7.5 seconds to force shutdown the N8. This is for SW hang scenario 2. Plug in the charger and wait for AT LEAST 15 minutes, then try to boot up. This is for depleted battery scenario 3. If you are SURE the battery not depleted and got the DEAD N8, send to NCC for checking as it might be defective hardware related issues.
From experience, the N8 can't be Hard Reset once it's failed to boot up normally or so call "DEAD N8".

4. From what I've observed the phone AMOLED will start to turn off start at "ST BLACK-04.bmp", "ST BLACK-03.bmp", "ST BLACK-02.bmp", "ST BLACK-01.bmp",
"ST BLACK-00.bmp".
5. The screen dark "stains" will sufface as well during these few color cards.
6. Start from "ST BLACK-05.bmp" onward the dark "stains" will be not so visible.
7. All these have to be done in total darkness room as these defective "stains" are not visible at all when the surrounding are bright.
After you seen these result DO NOT simply bash N8 straight away as we're not sure why/how the AMOLED display technology work and how it perform on other
devices. Anyone can use these color cards to verify on others AMOLED display devices as well...

During conversation in a call, the hand free speaker suddenly when ON.(PENDING) - please ensure your face is not off the screen as this will trigger the approx sensor OFF and screen turn back active. - try to re-produce the error if it start to happen by NOT reboot or do anything, just direct make another call and try to simulate it back (report if you success to confirm the bug).
03. Default browser randomly crash and causing an auto soft reboot.(CONFIRMED) - when surfing mostly on those heavy site the browser will crash for no reason (confirm not cause by low resource). - try disable the "Java/ECMA script" might help on some heavy scripted pages.
04. Call Logs missing even set to keep for 30 days.(PENDING) - Logs over flooded by network connection logs. - Logs having limited overall entry although set to keep for 30 days.

looks like for those people using micro sim with adapter in N8, the adapter will get stucked in the sim card slot in N8

image hosting sites have some compression that makes the image loss its original quality, and make it looks uglier then the original...unlike some other people that the photo actually looked nicer...

I am planning to get a N8 in a few days time..but stuck at what color to get. Pretty silly I know :s I'm thinking of getting either the black or the silver one. Any pros and cons to either color?
To all sifu who answered so fast (wow... I'm impressed), I found that I have to turn off Vivid mode and the picture clearly reproduces the colors. Hmm... looks like we cannot use Vivid for all shots. Learned something new today. Thanks everybody.

what's the lighting condition of the room? my room's wall paint is blue, so when i take picture with N8 last time also i notice some blue-ish color...sadly i don have it with me now, so even if i want to take nice photo also, i cant share it here

1st is the camera lens there any finger print by accident? 2nd Did u take out the screen protector on the camera sensor?
Eh don't think so... N8 + IP4 = 1.6k + 2.6k = 4.2k But he spent it on better selection of phones.

i use vivid mode in most condition havent face such issue yet. Thanks for the info of certain conditions
I think that Vivid is a software enhancement process that makes colours more vibrant. But in an indoor environment with flourescent lights, it will reproduce the blue wavelength a bit too much, hence the tint. Just my 2 sens lar.

i removed all the stickers except zitron shiny sticker and the one on the screw, and i am able to claim warranty, now i have my "new"(changed board) N8, they stick again stupid stickers on it, again i removed it, leaving only the sticker on the screw since it says "warranty void if seal is broken".

sometimes they check if your IMEI they type into the system got problem like accessories they check the sticker too

My fault. I am using Vivid for every shots and I found out that you cannot use that under certain conditions. Thanks, you guys are awesome.
by right using vivid mode shouldn't caused that problem. possible might be bug? p/s: i been using vivid all the while will update if i face such problem

Like your suspicious of macro at 10cm i already did alot research as long as u dont focus directly at 10cm it wont be blur. If u notice the wan tan mee its not straight up but like a mountain curve. So if u aim a little higher it will be about 10cm or less.
Just my opinion I am not an expert in photography but i learn alot from others from everywhere but i know alittle i am glad to share

Ive learned from other members of flickr users to disable it to prevent unauthorized use of your photos so if anything happen in future i have the EXIF to proof i am the owner of the photos. If u are interested do add me in flickr i will be glad to give u access to it for your viewing pleasure.
Camera i always love to play with manual setting because after u get a hang of it next time you roughly know what's the right setting to compensate the right lighting.

Do you mean "focus lock" technique? N8 macro is pretty hard to get "green" focus ESPECIALLY in low light. What you can do is apply "focus lock" technique somewhere brighter or something that can be focus easily; The problem is the exposure and also the the distance when you go back to the subject you want to capture.

just for everyone reference the N8 when u select CloseUp mode it will try to get focus from far to near... so in case we all know the N8 have minimum 10cm macro focus then once u unable to get focus after the long half press just manual BRING your camera to about 10cm to the items u would like to snap and it would be SHARP and in FOCUS...

Knew that. Been putting off buying that IdontCare for so long until the N8 came along. Somehow I still cannot get around the feeling that I miss the 5800XM wor. But then on buying the N8, I get a few sifu on photography, so I guess it's worth it.

On the question whether N8 can perform nite shooting without flash
The answer = A BIG "NO"
Yeah One of the biggest dissapointment in N8 is the dark/nite shooting mode. Without the so called N900 FCAM thingy or in the Canon- TV mode, nite shooting is almost impossible

Your problem very simple to solve. Low light without flash u need compensate to the lighting. Try take from potrait view lol. The photo above u are blocking the direct light thats why come out not the best. Just my personal opinion

Did any of you recommended your friends to buy N8 and did they buy one?
One of my clients successfully persuade her cousin to buy one to take pic n video of her child upon seeing me showing her the photo quality. That of course without really testing anything else but camera. But most important is that I know the OS was not of any importance to them cos they dont use it much really.
However, when my friend rang me yesterday and ask me BB 9700 vs N8... I was completely silence... those who would use the mails, messaging and phone very often, what would you tell them?

no doubt bb.. have to recommend right stuffs for ppl who use it for certain purposes ma. cant recommend n8 to heavy messaging and mail users rite.

seriously, i dun often do mails, msg, phone app etc. i only can poison them with photo, or else, they would need to seek themselves which phone suit them last month during launching, my friend who just bought his c6 for 2 weeks b4 N8 launching, and told me will not buy N8 so soon. Just on the launching day, went to try out, and end up bought it in the sport. Got the phone faster than me! lol...

i persuade alot of people to get n8 out of 10ppl 8 are successful. crys orginally want get x10 haha lucky she listen and take n8. its true if u like photograph its n8 all the way.
sure...you pay hor but I would love to go there again...All that Movie World, Water World, whatever world...is freaking fun...the Scobby Doo ride in Movie world scare the sh*t out of me when it reverse drop suddenly

As a beginner, we know how bad we take pictures. Here are the tips to get things right.
1. Learn the curve, functions of the camera inside the N8, get to understand the scene mode, flash mode, exposure, white balance, light sensitivity, contrast. 2. Then, take alot of pictures with different light sensitivity, exposure or other settings. Compare the pictures. This is basically trial and error. 3. Next, take alot of pictures with different angle, positions and distance and scenery. Try with different setting as well. Compare the pictures, and choose the best among the best 4. Finally, share the best pictures with your friends.
It will take some time to learn, even professional DSLR user choose the best pictures from alot shot that have taken. Some video to share
On the question whether N8 can perform nite shooting without flash
The answer = A BIG "NO"
Yeah One of the biggest dissapointment in N8 is the dark/nite shooting mode. Without the so called N900 FCAM thingy or in the Canon- TV mode, nite shooting is almost impossible
