What a great news for Malaysian to get Cherry MX red, keep it on biggrin.gif
*
When i meet him, i was quite surprise that he's holding a new Sample Keyboard. He tried to show me the Cherry MX switch, and when the keycaps taken off, i was blink.gif shocking.gif drool.gif rclxm9.gif , Wow, RARE Cherry MX RED

If Leopold going to release this soon, i`ll be glad that Malaysian will have the Choice to purchase Cherry MX Red Switch, Since it's rare throughout the whole market. brows.gif brows.gif

QUOTE(THEswordmaster @ Dec 30 2010, 04:35 PM)
when using the red switch, it's very hard for me to catch the actuation point of the keys, and it causes me to bottom up quite often, even though I've tried to not bottom up all the time lol
maybe because i'm into martial arts lol
*
Most of us probably gonna bottoming out the key even when we're using red, It's just that Red will make your finger less fatigue when compare to you using Cherry MX Black. hmm.gif

i heard a friend of mine said that you can actually turn a black switch & blue switch into a red switch by switching the blue switch spring with the black switch spring.
*
yes, if you wanted to do that, you need to open the Cherry MX switch and swap the springs, it's a troublesome step, and btw. repeat the step 104 times if you want to change all keys. And buying 2 sets just for changing to red? errr.. i don't thiink so..

Added: Info

If you're thinking about swapping, i think you should forget about it if you're buying Filco or Ducky, since they are not PCB Mounted. Filco is Steel plate mounted, while Ducky is Aluminium plate mounted.

u can just order the cherry mx spring itself. just the spring. which is way way cheaper.
the whole process of modding, probably wont be more then 3~4 hours.
*
well, that's will become a DIY keyboard.

But still, if there's a choice for you to get Cherry MX Red Keyboard directly, and much cheaper, would you still consider buying a alternative keyboard and mod it? hmm.gif

but why red? wouldn't blue be more 'fun' to type in with the acknowledging takatakatakatakataka and the tactile snap.

Well, that's why there always a choice between multiple switches to let you choose which suits your taste. Not everyone like blue thou.

Don't take it the wrong way. That was a harmless question. I was just wondering what his subjective opinion was for going with the red switches.
*
Hmm.. i think you're taking it the wrong way.

since what you says "wouldn't blue be more 'fun' to type in with the acknowledging takatakatakatakataka and the tactile snap."

Not everyone would prefer clicky sound and tactile bump feeling. you should have some try on some demo unit. since they do not sound like takatakatakataka tongue.gif
There's also people prefer to have a quieter keyboard, black, brown, red would be a alternative choices, because sometimes, we do might use the keyboard at midnight or next to a person, and Blue switch clicky sound might be sound pleasant towards the keyboard user, but not the person around the keyboard user.
As for tactile bump, it is something like a helpful feature for those that prefer to touch typing a keyboard, because they don't always bottoming out the key, and wanted to improve on touch typing.

I think Blue is more of a typist keyboard, since the switch require less force to press on, and has a tactile bump(to let you feel when the key is being pressed), it's a perfect keyboard for touch typing, especially for those typist that do type really fast with touch typing.

As for my, i use mechanical keyboard frequently, and types about 100wpm(words per minute), and myself doesn't like tactile bump thou. i frequently use Black, if Red is available, i`ll happy to switch to Red switch.

Btw, here's a Mechanical Keyboard Guide.

hey moggle, just for updating, the fullsize keyboard might develope in futher to have media key as well as windows lock key, but it's not confirm yet because they currently are in discussion.

To much of my surprise, for Leopold Keycap quality, it is very very siiliar to Steelseries 7G, as it's from the same manufacturer.

i had try my friends 6Gv2, the keycaps are indeed thinner than 7G.

Both 7G and Leopold FC200R keycaps has the same thickness. Leopold seems to be using a new laser imprinting mephod. And one important thing would be lettering does not become yellow like my 7G.

As for ducky, I've tried multiple keys comparison and found out that Ducky Keycaps certain keys does not have the same thickness as other keycaps.

For comparison on Ducky Keycaps, pull out your ESC and your ASDW Keycaps and compare, ESC are somewhat more thin.

hmm seems like found some advance thing from 7G compare to 6Gv2, anyway, then only the it deserve the price different.
But another thing is you make me hate 7G key caps, the stupid printing method. Waiting for 7Gv2 with laser etched key caps ^^

Your ducky keyboard means which model? You do the studies by using which keyboard.

Added on January 4, 2011, 2:24 am

oops sorry let me clarify for you.

What I trying to say is, as you mention it was 9KRO, you test it with "asdf spacebar jkl;" these 9 keys, then did you try any other 9 keys combination, wondering is there any other 9 keys combination failure, may it be less than 9KRO?
*
Well, i only have Ducky DK9008 Black on Black Key caps. so i'm doing comparisons based on DK9008.
you mean 7G Keycap printing method? well, i personally hate it as well because it becomes yellow over certain usage.
Leopold on the other hand, still shows no sign of yellowyish, but currently, i'm still using the keyboard for only 1 week, i'll update more if anything changed.

For pictures, i apologize as i'm currently unable to update more pictures, because currently my computer got buttsecks by zeus lightning and psu, mobo, and possible other hardware parts, gone.

QUOTE(jasmineivan @ Jan 12 2011, 05:33 PM)
Any news for Leopold MX red? Waiting for it.
*
They're currently being mass manufactured in China.

Currently, The tenkeyless version are being manufactured in Taiwan, and the full version keyboard(included with Cherry MX Red Key) are manufactured in China.

From what i heard, Leopold Keyboard quality check are very strict, as i check for more information, i found out that the Leopold Keyboard Tenkeyless version that i`m using right now, The keycaps are basically manufactured by Datacomp which is the same manufacturer as SteelSeries 7G and 6Gv2.

Thou i can't confirm that the factory that they produce the keycaps are the same factory, what i`m really surprise with the keycap quality difference between Leopold Keyboard tenkeyless and Steelseries 6Gv2. (which they are being manufactured by DataComp this recently)

The person that incharge in meeting me and have a discussion with me has traveled to China, to have quality check on those keyboard.

So as soon as stocks arrive, i'll be posting more informations and pictures. And also with the possibility that i could bring some keyboard stocks in Malaysia so you guys can purchase them. rclxms.gif

QUOTE(jasmineivan @ Jan 12 2011, 08:04 PM)
I agree that SS key caps are much thinner than the leopold 1 but don't really agree that thickness indicate the quality. They are thin but quality still quite okay. (just not so bad)
I said that because I did compared the SS and Noppoo key caps, never test for the thickness but we can even can see something very clearly with eye. The cutting edge of SS keycaps are much smoother than the Noppoo 1.

how much thefull version MX red will be?? Any estimate pricing?
*
atleast a certain thickness will indicates they are not trying to cut cost or reduce anything that have effects over the keyboard's overall quality, that's how i sees a product. At least they are very picky on quality even as little as keycap's thickness, So.. in my view, their pickiness is good tongue.gif

from what i heard, the full version of Leopold Keyboard will be a little slightly expensive than the Leopold Tenkeyless, which will still be under RM400, but i still can't confirm the price.
But as he said The keyboard will only slightly expensive than the tenkeyless version because the full size keyboard are being manufactured at China which will have less labour cost compared to Taiwan.

And Keycaps molding will have a minor different between Tenkeyless(made in Taiwan) and Full size(made in China).
The differences would be the Top side of the keycap.
If you noticed, Tenkeyless Leopold Keyboard, the top side of the Keycap have a minor Cut Mark, because of the molding technique that the Taiwan manufacturer use.
user posted image
But for the fullsize Leopold Keyboard, The keycap will be made by a different molding technique, the cut mark will be on the under edge of keycaps, so you won't be able to notice it easily as the tenkeyless version.

Then 10keyless is how much then?? Roughly how much different?
*
tenkeyless, if i remembered last time they did mention RM335, but i think would be at this price or slightly cheaper.

Thou i can't confirm, i personally hope tenkeyless would be around RM300~330, and full keyboard to be around RM340~380. i can only say it won't be above RM400.
But currently can't get the exact pricing as they still didn't announce the price tag for fullsize keyboard. Because the keyboard is still in production.

Today i've received a e-mail which they inform me the keyboard production are being successful. So it's a matter of time that i will receive a sample as well as receive more information as well as pricing information.

So now better do fundraising for Leopold first.

the keycaps is so nice. Doubt that it is fit with BW or not.
*
for Keycaps, you don't really need to worry as long as the keycaps are designed for Cherry MX switches. there's no difference in size and shape.

The only thing that you will be worry for fitting would be the larger keycaps such as space, enter, shift. because some tends to use different stabilizer. and might not fit the keyboard.

If changing for whole set then won't be any problem there, but some problem might occur, if the key caps profile are very different from the original 1.
*
Well, it really depends thou, but if you're changing the middle part(top to bottom as middle), the profiles won't be having a very big difference.

For Key Profiles to have big difference would be the top part(F1~F12, etc) and the bottom part(CTRL, ALT, Space, etc) where the key profiles have higher and lower difference, such as Cherry Keyboard and Filco Keyboard Difference.

How is it better? clearer comparison?
Blueberry got his Blackwidow from Gosu Games, which is a free keyboard =D.

But anyway, Some people may find Cherry MX blue switch are much more comfortable to type if compared with Cherry MX Black Despite the sound tongue.gif .

Anyway, For RTS games, i don't think BlackWidow is gonna be causing any kind of problem at all.
