May be with the growing/migrating of
Touch Screen trend from smartphone industry to
PC/Notebook/Tablet industry, they will skip the mechanical kb path and directly go into virtual kb. It will be much more convenience, mobile and suitable to type or use on tablet. There are program such as swype and many more to improve typing on virtual touchscreen kb.

virtual keyboard won't actually replace mechanical keyboard, it's just will be an alternative solutions on what people might choose to use.
As for it will become "convenience, mobile and suitable to type or use on tablet. this varies in future and heavily depends on their designs and such.
As for me, i don't really like virtual keyboard actually, because it's a pain in the ass to learn, and what if they change the interface or replace another one. Sorry but i find those things won't last very long, and it won't be easily absorb by the public, because virtual stuff are easily replace by another thing in future, and stuff advance too rapidly.
For programs like swype and many others, it's still just a alternative solutions to type on your mobile, This doesn't actually let's you type faster and more enjoying, and more of a more "Unique Way" to show your friends how you type on your mobile, which is doesn't improves users experience on typing one, as it require you to relearn all typing mephod. and another problems comes as you're limited to only the phone OS as if the programs only support android. then GG.
well i do believe that we're actually heading off topic between this as well as membrane keyboard.
For me, Membrane Keyboard has it's uniqueness and several advantage over mechanical keyboard, and vice versa between each other( i'm not saying mechanical keyboard are bad either), it's just that each keyboard are it's own advantage and disadvantages.
But in here, i do have to say that users have choices to choose between membrane keyboard as well as mechanical keyboard. either you go for blingbling future badass looking. or you go for classic looking, durability, and comfort typing experience(comfort varies from person to person.
