well.. at least stated which game or other pc spec..
it could be driver problem, games or not even related to the hardware itself..
*
I think i already specified that the game is sc2 right ? and the only hardware i changed is the gc ( from 8800 to 6870) everything else is a constant that does not contribute to the problem.
All drivers have been cleaned using driver sweeper.

if your other pc spec is ok..
u can check on
-game patches
-try the ati hotfix
-temp issue which no prob to set the fan manually

what ppl not understand was.. the auto fan mode could be not suitable in our environment..
during load it just set on 30% fan speed (well this is through observation from previous gpus)

to overcome it we set the fan manually abit higher..
but some might not convenience with that setting due to noise that the fan produced..
that's why some not prefer the ref cooler.. like myself..

if u really happen to buy the ref cooler gpu.. just accept the fact that u should live with that consequences..

before some else asking about not like that fan speed, to set it manually all the times during idle and load..
better google around about ati tray tools and figure out what should be done rather than waiting for spoon feeding..

i leave my fan speed to auto. it's not noisy. the back part of my casing, the part where the pci slot is, becomes quiet hot during gaming.

6850 almost like 5770 right ? power consumption is not so high than 5850.

not yet test the 6800 series yet. the reference cooler temp high or not.
waiting 6970 and non reference 6870 see how. biggrin.gif

5770 should much lower..
between 5850 and 6850.. 6850 just less 10-20W..

even my 4870 around 30W more.. still can be used on 400W psu..

u have to compare based on price segments:

6850 ~ RM600-650
460 factory OC (variable prices based on oc rate) ~ Rm 750-900
6870 ~ Rm850

6870 beats 460 even in OC, so if u wanna go for 460GTX, i suggest u to go for 6870 cool2.gif

Why Radeon HD6870 is RM 850??
Sapphire Radeon HD6870 is RM 749 at Viewnet currently.

Performance isn't really much of a different and if only 6800 series is available in near my store now, I would already made an order but... I already order the green one whistling.gif

thanks for answering. Next year, hopefully I can get 7000 or 8000 series notworthy.gif

after 1 minute of furmark benchmark,
70c @ 55% fan speed @ ~2600rpm

idle
48c @ 33% fan speed @ ~1300rpm

i can't hear the fan noise difference between them. looks like my psu and casing fans are louder than that. sweat.gif

i found out what's causing my problem. ATI drivers. They're kinda unrefined when comparing to nvidia's driver. heck , even alt tab with ATI is slow...a lot slower.
For those who are concerned about the noise levels of 6870, it's barely noticeable at 50%.
