mengsuan...you on eclair right...because voodoo beta4 is for 2.1..why don't you try voodoo3 with jm8 kernel..i used it with my stock eclair and no battery eater..

but sorry i forgot the link from xda...
*
Yes, default Eclair JG4. I use Beta 4 because it should have fix battery eating issue. Beta 3 and previous version have bugs that the CPU is always running at 1GHz.

QUOTE(horphi @ Oct 25 2010, 12:12 PM)
do you or any guys here noticed that after the phone calls, the screen will become greenish like 1-2 second when you move the phone away from your ears?
i didn't noticed this happens before.

i happened after i apply voodoo pre-4,but i m now on z4mod and its still persist.

i wonder if this is normal unsure.gif
*
Hmm, I didn't look at the screen. I'll observe next time.

I assume you didn't reboot after the lagfix?

No idea why your phone stays awake, somehow Voodoo Beta4 works for me, especially on battery saving department. biggrin.gif

I did proper shutdown and start once. Trying another reboot now.

I returned to stock kernel. Power usage become normal again. Running time is back to normal. Definitely 50% and lower.

On Voodoo 4 lagfix+colour fix, the running time is >95%. I'll try Voodoo 4 lagfix only later tonight.

If they could fix lag and GPS issue, we are probably having the best phone that would stay for a long long long time.

Yep, that's my experience as well. Voodoo is built off the open source kernel released by Google. Samsung has done lots of customizations on top of this kernel that improve battery life tremendously (on the Galaxy but that isn't saying much). I'm on the JM8+Voodoo4 kernel and it's been going ok so far.
As much as I'd like to believe this, SamFirmware is not Samsung official and hence, it's no more than an unsubstantiated rumour at this point. I'll believe it when I see it. The Galaxy S and all its problems (lag, GPS, mysterious power drains, half assed Froyo implementation) and Samsung's inability to acknowledge much less fix them has seriously made me think twice about owning any future Samsung products. sad.gif
*
I'll try z4mod first then try JM8 Voodoo. biggrin.gif

It's called Layar. It's built into the phone. No need to download.

Excellent. z4mod wiped out my personal data. Arrgh.

Since it's already wiped, should I have used Froyo by now?

Added on October 26, 2010, 1:25 pmExcellent. ANd I lost root as well.

Added on October 26, 2010, 1:34 pmWarning. Do not try full z4mod conversion by RyanZa (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8731921&postcount=674)

It's not ready yet.

My recovery menu doesn't want to work now. It returns invalid argument and reboot, not allowing me to revert to RFS or root. Looks like I need a reflash.

No personal data will be saved in every reboot. In every phone restart, I get a phone without contacts. Good for demo purpose.

I kena this a number of days back. When I posted my experience and attached the z4mod.log file, RyanZA could only say, hmm, it should not do that.

Anyway, I have reflashed my phone to fresh JPM, rooted it using the 1.2 CF Root kit, and have applied the so-called optimized kernel. Testing now without any lagfix.
*
Sigh, you used Odin to flash JPM? I actually prefer KIES for Eclair to Froyo conversion because it has the right PIT file to use. Sadly JPM is pulled off KIES already.

Using JM8 Voodoo. Run time looks fine already, the phone does go to sleep.

Sigh, regretted doing z4mod. It was a big screw up today.

Ok, I'll just leave it as JM8 until KIES pushes Froyo again.

Actually I'm wondering if Voodoo would slowly become slow like OCLF?

No. I have been connecting to KIES several times this afternoon. Instead of making us curious, show us the update. What version is it updating to?

I've just installed Voodoo JM9 to give it a try. Finally finished synching my contacts and link them up. Installed back the apps that I need and realised the pages shrink from 5 pages to 3 pages. I don't remember what I used. tongue.gif

The only shortfall is access to database is slow on Voodoo. 1 example is my WhatsApp. Incoming/outgoing messages will jammed my phone for 1-2 seconds.
*
This is the reason I abadoned OCLF. When someone is typing or when my whatsapp is transmitting, the phone stutters. When I shift back to RFS, surprisingly, it is better.

Voodoo JM9 is so far excellent on my DXJG4 firmware. I have just reflashed by Odin and batterystats isn't very mature yet but at least the values shown are impressive.

During an 8 hour idle sleep, the power consumption is only 2%. Wifi sleep policy set to Never. However no push mail set up yet. Feeds are once an hour.

Smoothness? Yes. The phone is snappier. Harder to stress it to the point where it lags. Installing apps from market used to stop me from using the phone momentarily. Now the lag is negligible for small apps. Worse case is just a 0.5 second stutter.

I think I found the right lagfix for Eclair. Until I change to Froyo, this shall be my configuration. biggrin.gif

No, not same. I cannot use Voodoo's kernel. My phone won't go to sleep and it uses 48% in one night. Only original SGS Voodoo kernel like Voodoo JM8 and JM9 works for my phone.

Yeh, Voodoo on default kernel was a battery sucker for me too. But strangely, the earlier betas - Voodoo 1 and 2 - were okay despite locking the CPU at a constant 1Ghz. Could just be my imagination.

Added on October 27, 2010, 1:45 pm
Did you try Voodoo JM8? Was there a discernible difference in terms of performance/power consumption? Reason I'm asking is that I'm on Voodoo JM8 and too darn lazy to move up to Voodoo JM9 unless there's a marked improvement.

Also, I find that games like Abduction which use the sensor will not properly disable the sensor after exiting. This is a huge power drain for me even on Voodoo JM8 as the sensor's running at 100% the whole time. I've only been able to fix this by reseting the phone. Weird.
I've identified a few battery sucking apps which I've either uninstalled or do not run at all, not sure if you guys agree:
1. WhatsApp (lagged, delayed messages, sucked power, no way to disable)
2. Trillian (this was a real battery killer - I hate it now)
3. eBuddy (was always a battery killer)
4. Tweetdeck (great app, shame about the power suckiness)
*
Yes I tried Voodoo JM8. No visible difference with JM9. To move from Voodoo JM8 to JM9, you don't need to disable the lagfix. Just directly flash the kernel over. That's what is mention in forum, but I did a full reset and flash. smile.gif

Whatsapp does take some power but I cannot live without it already. It has become a routine to use it to message to my friends. I use whatsapp much more often than SMS.
