I just went through 9 pages THE FUC-
Anyway, get Kazuya Nakai to voice Hang Jebat if there are Japanese dubs and I'll care. QUOTE(Brian O'Connor @ Oct 21 2010, 11:42 AM) NEIN! It needs to be a slice-of-life anime with Kana Asumi in it. |

Quite frankly, I don't have very high expectations from this. In fact, I expect to see most of the shonen tropes that have been staple in the big three (Naruto/OP/Bleach). Looking at the character designs, and the fact that its been in pre-production since 2007 means it's been scrapped and rebuilt over and over and over.
Naturally when there's a huge cultural gap, and the fact the Japs have been creating anime for over 40 years, the Malaysian side will have a lot of ground to catch up to. Let's be honest with ourselves: if you can criticise and make fun of the production, can YOU come up with a better story concept/character design/storyboard etc. AND get all the connections to get it produced? I highly doubt so. I'm happy to see that Funcel have been pursuing this continuously since 2007, and not drop it out of exhaustion. Look at Dennou Coil, the development took what, 10 years? Scrapped and rebuilt over and over - and this from a nation that has a long run of anime success and flops. To be fair, I don't expect Satria to be award-winning or viral or anything. Heck, I don't even expect it to be ground-breaking or getting any critical reviews. When Satria airs, it's an important milestone for the local creative scene. Its a new open door, and if it manages to secure the mainstream appeal like UpinIpin did, it will bring in more attention to the industry. That, I believe is the most important significance of the Satria project. Whether or not it will be shonen, predictable, wrong facts etc. can be set aside for now. I say, produce something first, and then we can look forward to improving from there. |

Next! They must make Sepak Takraw anime, with Ashita Joe mixed with Slam Dunk! Sure can sell! And all the characters are females!

QUOTE(linkinstreet @ Oct 21 2010, 06:21 PM) Somehow these comments never fails to amuse me i am a local. and i generally DO NOT WANT local stuff, copy pasta or not. problem?1 - Anything is always the govt fault, no matter what 2 - Any animation that is done locally should follow 100% Japanese This is an animated series, albeit even with Gonzo's help, is first and foremost for the local market. And for the local market, they need a local flavour. And not all locals are into Japanese animation, no matter what you weeboes think. Will it work with a local storyline formula? It might. Keluang Man showed that before that local animation with local storyline works. Besides, I always see broadswoard, gattling gun, and other non Japanese weapons in anime. So is Keris so wrong that it can't even be featured in an anime that showcases a local character? For me this is the real reason that Malaysian animation fails. People tend to overlook what local wants, and instead expect it to be a copy pasta from another country. Most of the kids/people I talked to who is not into Japanese anime does not really find it appealing. And as I said, before, why does Keluang Man succeed that even now people are talking about it? Because it's local and it made fun of local culture. For your information I take back what I said about this anime, NOT what I said about what we need to do.Added on October 21, 2010, 7:57 pm so hows chewing on ur own words doing for you? QUOTE(SailorMercury @ Oct 21 2010, 07:23 PM) Naw, this is just plain bias. Who knows, the voice acting might just be good, and hearing Hang Tuah speaking japanese might just look/sound super awkward. There are malay mannerisms in his speech to consider, too. Then again, the script itself will play a huge role on all this. Will they speak modern, or archaic? That, imo, matters more than the language it's spoken.Look at Iron Man. No doubt FujiKei is a good seiyuu (i like him), but god damn, Tony Stark sounds bloody awkward speaking in Japanese.
