Wow, I'm so late on this - and I read all 8 pages of lulz. But it's 2012 right? Hmmm... I wonder if they're planning some kind of promo event for that...

Quite frankly, I don't have very high expectations from this. In fact, I expect to see most of the shonen tropes that have been staple in the big three (Naruto/OP/Bleach). Looking at the character designs, and the fact that its been in pre-production since 2007 means it's been scrapped and rebuilt over and over and over.
Naturally when there's a huge cultural gap, and the fact the Japs have been creating anime for over 40 years, the Malaysian side will have a lot of ground to catch up to. Let's be honest with ourselves: if you can criticise and make fun of the production, can YOU come up with a better story concept/character design/storyboard etc. AND get all the connections to get it produced? I highly doubt so. I'm happy to see that Funcel have been pursuing this continuously since 2007, and not drop it out of exhaustion. Look at Dennou Coil, the development took what, 10 years? Scrapped and rebuilt over and over - and this from a nation that has a long run of anime success and flops. To be fair, I don't expect Satria to be award-winning or viral or anything. Heck, I don't even expect it to be ground-breaking or getting any critical reviews. When Satria airs, it's an important milestone for the local creative scene. Its a new open door, and if it manages to secure the mainstream appeal like UpinIpin did, it will bring in more attention to the industry. That, I believe is the most important significance of the Satria project. Whether or not it will be shonen, predictable, wrong facts etc. can be set aside for now. I say, produce something first, and then we can look forward to improving from there. |

QUOTE(SailorMercury @ Oct 21 2010, 07:23 PM) Naw, this is just plain bias. Who knows, the voice acting might just be good, and hearing Hang Tuah speaking japanese might just look/sound super awkward. There are malay mannerisms in his speech to consider, too. Then again, the script itself will play a huge role on all this. Will they speak modern, or archaic? That, imo, matters more than the language it's spoken.Look at Iron Man. No doubt FujiKei is a good seiyuu (i like him), but god damn, Tony Stark sounds bloody awkward speaking in Japanese. How can tell whether or not it's good when it's not even out yet? Panty and Stocking looked like a weird ripoff of PPG and Dead Leaves and suddenly everyone thinks its awesome. When Code Geass was said to have clamp character designs everyone thought it was gonna be ghey. When 00 was announced everyone thought it was gonna be awesome - until it turned out to be BL.
Don't judge an anime by its web announcements! |

Shouldn't 'hamba' be more modest? Like,
Hamba bernama Hang Tuah = Sessha wa Han Towa de gozaru. Tuan hamba siapa pula = Omushi wa donata degozaruka? This post has been edited by Silencers: Oct 22 2010, 02:30 PM |

QUOTE(jaabar @ Oct 24 2010, 03:39 AM) sebenarnya...mmg ni cadangan Menteri Penerangan, Komunikasi dan Kebudayaan Malaysia,Datuk Seri Dr. Rais Yatim.. I demand a link to the original article.ini kata kata dia pasal animasi hang tuah ni.. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Meh, found it: http://www.utusan.com.my/utusan/info.asp?y...ni&pg=bt_12.htm Added on October 25, 2010, 12:34 amOkay, so I read his press statement. And the only thing I could glean from it is the affirmation that he's full of hot air and bullshit. First, he's implying that Malays aren't proud of Hang Tuah. I mean, this is bullshit. Malays today have clearly forgotten their own legends and folk tales. Stop a 17-yr old Malay kid on the streets and ask him if he knows Badang, Jentayu and Sang Kelembai. Schools don't teach a single piece of classic Malay folk tale. There's Pak Pandir, Lebai Malang, Si Luncai, Awang Kenit, Mat Jenin, and dozens more Malay legends and folklore that are gradually disappearing from our literature. Memang Melayu mudah lupa. You don't need animated products to keep literature and culture alive in young hearts. Integrate it into the education system, remove the modern prose shit like "Virus Zel untuk Abah' and 'Aku, Kris, dan Kristal'. If you really want the young generation to inherit our myth and legends, TEACH IT IN SCHOOL. The rest of his speech is standard political babble you'll find in every other opening ceremonies. Pfft.
