wow, how much the price? hehe

Beouwulf always get Acer notebook for free... tongue.gif

@Beouwulf: Perhaps Acer Malaysia also reading Lowyat.net forum and finally see the potential brows.gif

Or may be they wanna dump off all TimelineX in preparation for new SB notebook...

Either way, I am so glad they bring it here (even though I already have one), this is a great notebook, especially for those who want mobile gaming feature, and the pricing is also attractive.

Just 1 concern, it is an i3 CPU, which has a throttling at 90C, as opposed to i5 with throttling at 105C. In my experience with the i5, it is possible to reach 89C in long and heavy gaming session... dont meant to scare of potential buyer (i hope 13" will do well in Malaysia too)... but it is just something that potential buyer should know...

a reliable source told me it'll be on sale from 10 Jan onwards...

woots~ ngam my time.. but, first batch is it good to buy? or worth to take the risk? I been monitoring this thread for quite a long time, alot of reviews and testings from 3820TG but so far no 4820TG.. So, 4820TG, or 3820TG?

[use for gaming now + autoCAD, 3Dmax in the future, 4820TG better?]

ya, i updated the driver from Acer and get a few more points in 3dmark06! read more about it here.

i don't reckon to update to ATI Catalyst 10.12 since it will break your brightness key control. u can still adjust it using Win+X key

*important note* dont ever uninstall Acer driver, or else you will lost switchable graphic capability. if you must install new catalyst, i reckon the following steps:

1. dont uninstall any Acer graphic driver, etc
2. just install the updated Acer graphic driver on top of it
3. reboot, go into BIOS, set Graphic to Discrete, boot to Windows
4. install Catalyst 10.12
5. reboot, go into BIOS, set Graphic back to Switchable

You will lost the ability to adjust brightness using Fn-arrow key. But there are people suggest that you can recover that by doing the following after those 5 steps above:

1. Go to control panel, uninstall ATI graphic, select Modify
2. Only remove CCC
3. Reinstall CCC from Acer driver

Some guys tested and reported to be working; Catalyst 10.12 and everything functional

I didn't do that, I am still using Acer updated driver from the web, it is good enough for me. Very stable and fast enough...

As explained before...
QUOTE(cowithgun @ Jan 6 2011, 12:44 PM)
6550 is using the same core like 5650. the only differences are:

1. 6550 has additional 0.05 volt mode. so, at max performance, the GPU will use 1.05 volt, it will draw more power (drain a little more power). But due to more voltage, it can OC up to 850mhz!
2. The default core speed of 6550 is 50mhz more than 5650.

6550 is definitely a little better. but you are not missing anything (much) if you have 5650. using MSI Afterburner, you can easily OC your 5650 from 550mhz to 600mhz. the last batch of 5650 is very OC-able due to its maturing productions.

if u still feel bad, imagine what you have to live with without your 5650 in the last 2 months  tongue.gif

Just wondering, GT540m<GT335? shocking.gif
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForc...0M.41715.0.html
It is stated that GT335 is better about 23%, any1 clarify if I'm seeing wrongly.

the 23% difference is only for 1 benchmark: Unigine Heaven 2.1. it is possible that newer driver can help solve the problem... quote from that page: The performance of the 540M lies between the Radeon HD 5650 and 5730 in our first benchmarks.

i'd say both 6550 and 540M about the same... u probably wont notice much difference in gaming. give or take 1 or 2 FPS? if u still insist in choosing one, i'd pick 540M since it has 96 shader cores, compare to 72 shader cores in 335M. while, 5650 to 6550 has nothing changed internally.

however, nvidia power consumption should be a little more at 35 watt compared to 6550 at 15-30 Watt for comparison HD 5650 is 15-19 Watt.
