hey there chaps..am a proud owner of Acer TimelineX 4820TG
Just wanna check is Intel RAID same as Intel Rapid Storage Technology?
Shud i remove it? Izzit harmful? rclxub.gif
*
i m not entirely sure, but RAID usually used for hardisk mirroring, load balancing and stuff. it is not harmful, not no use for me, so i removed that...

i compared with Asus U35 before, another 13" notebook, but it's CPU is always above 50! so, i think the heat management in TimelineX is better.

that's one good testimonial for those considering an upgrade

i was experimenting with Catalyst AI (right click desktop, Graphic Properties, 3D, AI), i set it from Basic to Advance, i got further increased in 3dmark06, now i got 7662.

got some people changed to seagate momentus xt and experience something like 2-5 times faster in starting application!!!

however, "Segate Momentus XT's vibration and noise is considerably higher than the stock HDD, so be careful if that's important to you, but I personally think it's worth it."

i uses GPU-Z, enable log to file and monitor temperature in background, then, start playing Darksiders for 1 hour. i converted the log file into this graph:

it looks like my GPU temperature increased steadily from 40+ to 77! i used to think my GPU is just around 68 or something when i switch back and forth checking it, but i was wrong! there is no sign of stopping! i will test this again for 2 hours when i get time later!

@lee_what2004: is this acceptable???

i think the heat management is quite okay. im using some sort of china-brand free gift cooler fan + my room's fan. the temperature drop quite fast. from 70+ to 44 in like 5mins to 10mins i think? lol. i think getting a good cooler fan will just throw all the heat problems away biggrin.gif

and anyone know how to clean the laptop's lid? the steel lid have lots of fingerprints and water-like mark. anyway to clean it?

77C still in acceptable range for me...
When you switch to check the temp, you didn't check the max temp ?
Try use HWmonitor since it can display the current and max at the same time...

16 means your ATi is active...
But what are you doing at that discharge rate ?

finally got something like 2 hours plus of play with Darksider. the following temp recorded after playing for 30 minutes or so. so, the starting temp is like 60. then, i play for almost 2 hours.

max temp recorded by CPUID:

1. CPU - 89!
2. GPU - 79

i m glad to know that the Fan help push down the temp from time to time, especially after 77. so, it will circulating betwen 67-77 even in heavy load thumbup.gif

the last 3 minutes was after i quit the game, just to see how fast the temp can go down.

conclusion: thumbs up for the fan control! thumbup.gif
