I don't know, official or not... but to me, i still use "Acer provide driver", I try get driver from AMD site, they says:
QUOTE
The following notebooks are not compatible with this release:

1. Any notebook launched after this driver release
2. Switchable Graphics enabled notebooks using Intel® chipsets.
3. Toshiba® notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks)
4. Sony® VAIO® notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks)
5. Panasonic® notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks)

really cant wait for Catalyst 11.3... i have just completed Dragon Age 2... although i was trying to play it as slow as i can... although i only completed using Rogue... i usually will not repeat a game with story this long... somehow, i guess Dragon Age 1 is a little more challenging and a little more option and more endings  brows.gif nevertheless, this is a great game.  thumbup.gif

it is an official "preview" driver. according to ATI, this driver has crazy improvement over the last driver, including 11.2.

Up to 23% performance improvement in Aliens vs. Predator
Up to 22% performance improvement in Batman: Arkham Asylum
Up to 15% performance improvement in Battleforge
Up to 72% performance improvement in Civilization V
Up to 59% performance improvement in Call of Duty: Black Ops
Up to 26% performance improvement in FarCry 2
Up to 35% performance improvement in Lost Planet 2
Up to 30% performance improvement in Metro 2033
Up to 11% performance improvement in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat
Up to 19% performance improvement in Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena

http://blogs.amd.com/play/2011/03/14/the-a...en-waiting-for/

However, i suspect you can only achieve that if you are using ATI 6990 with certain AA setting... so, for us with 5650, the improvement may not be much... but still i read about people with 5xxx card getting pretty good improvement. moreover, the driver will support even Mobility after tomorrow, so, i m considering installing that instead of 11.3 (which is the official release)

Added on March 29, 2011, 2:14 pm@Anime4000: so far all driver from AMD has that claim. but since 11.1, all their driver work seamlessly with switchable graphic. before 11.1, user will lost Brightness control via FN key. i m using 11.2 now, got improve performance compare to Acer driver, very stable, no crash at all, except when i OC... i highly doubt that Acer will release anymore driver for 3820tg/4820tg since their focus will be most like on 4830tg now...

not sure about 4830TG, no review about it yet. let's speculate:

CPU: 4830tg i5-2410 (2.3Gz) vs 4820TG with i5-480 (2.66Gz)
- Rumor is that, sandy bridge is 15-25% faster with same clock speed
- 2.3 x 125% = 2.87Gz
- So, 4830tg should be a little faster than the current 4820tg
- The Intel HD should improve dramatically, no question. May be even double the speed of the 4820TG Intel graphic, so, if you use Intel graphic a lot, expect a lot of improvement.

GPU: AMD 6550 vs nVidia 540M
-3dmark06: 7143 vs 8005
-Crysis XGA high: 25 vs 28
- Power consumption: 30w vs 35w, so, i suspect nVidia should run hotter
- 540M clearly is the winner (but take a little more power), expect a few more frame per seconds (duh!)

So, if you are buying notebook now, 4830tg is the way to go. But if you already one 4820tg, i'd say you are not missing much (or anything). if there is game that your 4820tg cant play, it probably wont playable in 4830tg as well...

check out this comparison between my 3820tg (i5-460M, 5650) with N53SN (i7-2630QM - sandy bridge, 550M)

Final Fantays Benchmark: 3820tg = 1703, N53SN = 2007.
But if I OC: 3820tg = 2364
I havent seen result if 550M OC, but i dont think it can OC very much since 550M is basically an OC 540M, they have same number of core and its already running at 740MHz.

I suspect even if 550M can OC, my OC 5650 can probably still be higher tongue.gif however, that is a BIG may be heheh ok, may be i m bias... u know me.. kekeke

What is the Intel HD Graphic for?
Games? Or like HD movies and videos?

How come the 4830 has a i5 into the 4digits? While the normal laptops are all in the 3 digits? 370, 460, 560 etc. rclxub.gif
But then with a higher i5 ...., it's only 2.3Gz?

4280 is using nVidia? So it's hotter than an AMD?

I have a 4280. But only used it one to do the recovery.
So I wouldn't mind trading it in for an updated one that's better.
The reason why I still haven't used my new Timeline X is because my Vaio is still serving me well.
Bought the Timeline X because I was supposed to go to Australia and needed a laptop with a long battery life.
My Vaio is a veteran biggrin.gif

All Sandy Bridge has 4 digits, they all will start with "2". So, a i5-2410 = second generation i5-410. ya, its only running at 2.3Gz default speed, which is lower than i5-480.

4830tg using nVidia, since it uses more power, i suspect it is hotter.. but really need some review to confirm this.

If you can swap without costing too much $, why not? brows.gif How much is worth, depend on individual. If my company is paying for it, I'll change it in a heatbeat (between 4820tg and 4830tg)... if i have to fork out rm500 myself, i probably will not change... but that just me...

Thanks for the clarification.
YOu're so knowledgeable!

So you would not pay that extra RM500?
Can you give me the reasons why?

Btw, is there an improvement in the screen?
Or is it basically the same? The only notable differences that I know of by looking at the ads.
From the advertisement they clearly market these 3 things
-3.0 USB port.
should be a big improvement
-multi gesture.
wasn't it already there?
-battery life
wasn't it always 8 hours. how much does the 9 cell battery cost?
-1 inch thinner
this will make the laptop hotter doesn't it?

What I really like about the new laptop is ultimately the design.
Its jsut so sexy.

LOL.. But it's been proven that SB has much better heat management/power consumption... Even N53SN with SB Quad core on N53SN can have 4h30m battery life under battery saving mode and it's a 15 inch quad somemore.. That's why 4830TG definitely gonna have better battery life than 4820TG no matter how you see it...
