Hey guys, thinking of getting this laptop to use in my studies , for assignments and research , and of course, partly multimedia + gaming

I did my research on the 3820tg by googling and looking at reviews,

Found that its the best laptop to suit my needs, minus the optical drive , which i probably will only need when i reformat .

However, that aside , I was not too sure of the price of the i5 version of the 3820tg ,

Would someone kindly tell me the price for the i5 version? , and will there be much difference compared to the i3 version of this laptop?

As far as difference goes, only the processor is different , right?

Help is much appreciated!

Thanks~

Thanks for the quick reply .

Ohh, first post in this thread misleaded me. Thought there was an i5 version.

Hey guys, went to see the 3820tg and 4820tg,

Gonna get either one of them ,

One thing though , does the 4820tg have dual heatsinks like the 3820?

For RM 300 extra, i'd get an optical drive, core i5, 14" and 2.3kg total weight.

Is there really a significant difference from i3 compared to i5? ,

Help is appreciated, laugh.gif

Any user experience on the 4820tg's noise / heat dissipation?

i'm assuming that the i5 will be the best bet.

Just afraid the notebook will overheat, as i heard the 3820tg is one of the fastest laptop to dissipate heat out , with the 2 fans and seperate heatsinks .

Afraid the single big fan on the 4820tg wont be as efficient sad.gif

tempted to buy this one (3820tg). currently have the 5920g. is this a major upgrade in terms of its speed and usability? how bout for gaming?

I've been researching on the 3820 and 4820 for days,

heres a good review of the 4820tg,

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Acer-A...ok.30281.0.html

It says its one of the best notebooks to be able to play up to date games, at medium to high graphics with 2x/4x Anti-aliasing, Thus , it being a mid-high end gaming laptop .

Unless your graphic crazy , this is the laptop for any average gamer .

I , personally think the looks is staggering, almost perfect, if not for the black glossy trim along the LCD and keyboard.

I'm still stuck in a dilemma between the 4820tg and the 3820tg , 4820tg being RM300 extra, with optical drive, 14" LCD , 2.2kg in weight and a Core i5 processor .

I think i'll be buying the 4820tg , because of the core i5 proc , which seems to be on par with the Dell XPS 15 which costs 2999.

I just hope the fan isnt a disappointment in the 4820tg, as long as it doesnt overheat or make a jet-like noise, i'm cool, cause my previous acer aspire laptop with a centrino duo , makes an annoying noise when the laptop gets hot , ( sounds like a grinder )

any 4820tg owners mind giving comments on the fan? unsure.gif

How's the 3820tg's fan when under full load? does it whine loud?

although i dont mind the noise, but its an addition i could use i guess.

Another thing is the processor, i heard it's upgrade-able? ( removable )

hey guys, just got my 4820tg yesterday smile.gif

all i can say is, its a marvelous laptop , best bang for buck i'd say.

besides the overly glossy screen ( not much of a problem with high brightness ) , its perfect.

how do i install the latest ATI catalyst control center? i've tried doing that, and i lost the ability to switch to ATI graphics from the desktop , it stayed on intel only, i had to restore back sad.gif

Edit : gonna send it back , toshiba harddisk making faint scratching noises .... rclxub.gif

Edit2 : did some googling, and it seems that the harddisk noise may be normal.. wonder if any of u have this?

i ran a few tests on the harddisk, all passed blink.gif

i ran SeaTools , all the basic tests included in it , to find out what is wrong with my hdd , only to have it all passed every test flawlessly....

but its still making that annoying ticking noise every few seconds... sounds like a geiger counter -.-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVnRSEoqGPA

like this!! not as loud, but still audible very clearly.. cry.gif

to minimize the HDD noise, i used quietHDD , makes the noise less frequent, thats good i guess.

thanks fr your help smile.gif

putting aside the SRP of 2499, i would like to ask how much did you get your unit? thanks.
*
Got it for RM2499 , but with a lot of free stuff, laptop backpack, usb hub, mouse, lcd cleaner , etc, which is probably worth around 50, including the discount they have me for the 2g ddr3 ram I extended, RM 80 for ram

Something similar one was got user on NBR having problem rendering the WLM, but he got fix it by using HP Envy 14's intel driver + ATi driver from Acer..
Thanks for the reply smile.gif, really appreciate it.

I have just went to HP Malaysia's site to check out the drivers , am a little confused, as they put Intel's Turbo Boost in their Graphic Drivers section , along with a 'packaged' install, which installs both AMD and Intel Graphic drivers together which means its not compatible with my system, no? icon_question.gif

Thought of trying it out, but the last time i did that, messed up the drivers badly.. laugh.gif

i myself am using a keyboard protector, as i tend to have long nails, it slips on the keys / in some cases, might scratch away the letters on the keys LOL.

anyway, any PC shop should sell it, its just a sheet of silicon , i had to cut mine down to size to fit the 4820tg without covering the speaker or the touchpad though smile.gif

@leewhat ,

i have tried the guide u posted a few pages back smile.gif , thanks

sadly, after hours of fiddling with it, i gave up, the driver will not install as per the method he gave , guess ill be waiting for driver updates instead smile.gif

Thanks again for the guide, really appreciate the help biggrin.gif

Edit : Catalyst 11.2 seems to have crash problems, i keep getting ATI driver stopped responding , then the screen will hang and i have to restart... ill revert back to acer one tomorrow and see how it works

Seems that the more i use it, the more i dislike acer's support ..

Now i'm doing web browsing , chatting. and the temperature of my 4820tg is 80c ...

Thinking of doing a full recovery , will the drivers be included in the recovery?

i have no idea why my temperature is 60/70 c with some surfing and flash games. its on ati graphics though. is this normal?

edit : closed my flash games and the temperature went down to 49 stable.

Is there a way to turn off Turbo Boost? I dont think i need the speed . Probably could also lengthen battery life with stock 2.67 ghz clock and reduce temps drool.gif

how it work? i check the services is manual & stop for the turbo boost.. the bar i waited so long only move up once to 2.8 then gone.. what happened? mine still showing 2.53? how to test? i read liau still dun und.. 2 complicated bro..
*
It only goes up to 2.8 when u need it .

example : , ur playing a game , and u alt tab, u will notice that the bar is at 2.93 if im not mistaken,

it adapts to your usage, i wish it could downclock itself when im doing something else though, should save tons more battery hmm.gif

@jedi_dc

found something that might help fix your Windows Live random crash when using Intel, may need to add a few registry key (or try the Fix Me) to disable Hardware Acceleration:

Tried the fix me, didnt work sad.gif , my Intel driver is 8.741.xx .

will try the registry edit later on
