how come my ubuntu 7.1 sometime can detect my 210gb partition and sometime cant??? does it have limit on how many partitions it can detect?

Err, no. No limit (as far as I know).

What FS is that 210gb? NTFS? FAT32? Or maybe the partition is wrongly mounted.

Maybe if you can paste the contents of /etc/fstab , we might know whats going on.

Recently, I have updated the kernel module for my Ralink-chipset wireless adapter as I have experienced frequent disconnection previously. Although the initial problem has gone, now i have another problem. Whenever i boot up Ubuntu, i have to sudo ifconfig ra0 up and trigger the networkmanager applet(disable and enable networking) to detect my wireless AP. This works every time. But, it's kinda troublesome having to do this on each startup. Is there a way to do this automatically? Probably a bash script or something?

- acer aspire 5052ANWXMI
- amd turion 64 mobile technology MK-38 (2.2Ghz, 512KB L2 cache)
- ati radeon xpress 1100
- 80GB HDD
- 512MB DDR2

1. last nite i install ubuntu 7.10 in my laptop..everything goes well. but the prob start after i select ubuntu at boot loader (dual os). it take about 3 minute to display welcome page. i can see black screen only within the 3 minute. izit normal?

2. at the boot loader i want winxp as my default os. izit possible? if can pls teach me how to do that

3. my ubuntu is still fresh and i dont install any codec..but by default i still can play file in wav format rite?? last nite my lappy dont produce any of sound when i login

wah sai, so many things to do.

1. No its not supposed to be that way. I had the same issue as you a few weeks back, but its fixable.

First, you need to edit usplash.conf.



Now change change the resolution so that it looks like this:



Next we need to regenerate the boot splash image. Always create a backup first before doing this.



After that, reboot your laptop, and see if you can get the splash(loading) screen

2. You want XP as default?



Rearrange the menu so that Windows XP is the first one in the list. Reboot to test.

3. Not sure what is the problem here.

I have already included the command for backup in that post.

sudo cp initrd.img-2.6.22-14-generic initrd.img-2.6.22-14-generic.bk1
sudo update-initramfs -u -k `uname -r`

The one in BOLD is the backup command line.

3.can i install plug-ins for firefox eg ad-block,flash player & youtube downloader?

then i typed the code u gave me but it didnt work

Boot into Ubuntu as usual. Go to

Applications > Accessories > Terminal

That's where you should input your CLI.
