reminds me of my lappy, a compaq running a nforce, and nvidia.

http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...23&hl=hda+intel

the solution is to add a line with sudo in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
option snd-hda-intel model=laptop

I'm really new to Linux and Ubuntu and everything here. Just have one question rite now. I've installed Ubuntu 7.10 to my 80GB Samsung Sata II HDD recently. Everything is responding well except I encounter a lil' bit of lagging with my system running it. I'm a lil' confused coz as far as I know, Ubuntu or any other Linux distro should be light and should perform good in older system and exceptionally well in recent system. My specs is as my sig so I was hoping someone could help me with this.

I was also having problem installing my nVidia drive in Ubuntu as I do not know how to do it. tongue.gif

If u are using C2D, you should use UBuntu 64-bit smile.gif

But before you do that, you might want to read this first:

Advantages and Disadvantages of 64bit

EDIT: Btw, the Restricted Driver Manager:

System > Administration > Restricted Drivers Manager

Tnx for your help. It does help me notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

Another thing is, why does my Windows clock kept appearing the wrong time whenever I've finished using Ubuntu and boot in Windows? The Ubuntu clock is not affected at all, only in Windows, even after I've set the correct time at BIOS. Any ideas? hmm.gif

That's funny. Never heard of this before.

Can I know which Ubuntu Live CD are you using? Is it version 7.10(latest)?

Can u check in Windows and see if you have set the time zone to the correct one? (It should be GMT+8; assuming that you are in Malaysia tongue.gif )

And also, please check whether you set your time and date as Manual or Synchronize in Ubuntu.

Right click on Date and Time on top bar > Adjust Date and Time

Well, if you are having hdd space problem, you can always use a flash drive to save your productive files.

Asking around, why does the uBuntu installer (live CD 7.10) when it install to 82%, scanning the mirror and its seems like hanged there?

Is there something wrong or I just didn't wait long enough?

How long did it takes you guys?

Unfortunately, Windows time is still drifted as usual even after synchronize with windows server. Ubuntu clock was set to synchronize with Internet servers and also I changed to manual to see any difference but no. Windows clock is still drifted away whenever I boot ubuntu and then restart and boot windows again. Anybody have the answer for this please do help me. notworthy.gif

Yea, that was what happened to me.

Be patient biggrin.gif

Or if you want it to be faster you can always close your internet connection (by unplugging the network cable). You can always do this later:

CODE
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Happy Ubuntu-ing!

Windows by default assumes that you are using the local time, but Ubuntu by default uses UTC (or used to called GMT). So if you are dual booting on of the time is bound to be wrong by 8 hours depending whether you set you BIOS clock to local time of UTC time.

I'm not sure if you can set Windows time to UTC (I've not used Windows regularly for a long time already), but you can set the Ubuntu time to local time (although not really advisable).

...or you can solve the problem like what I did a year ago - completely junk Windows and use Ubuntu 100%. Life IS possible without Windows!
