The lower the number the better.
The size of a camera sensor will have a big impact on the quality of your pictures. The lens gathers light and directs it towards the sensor, and the sensor records the light to create the image. Large sensor produces better images
All things being equal, a larger sensor will receive more light than a smaller one, and produce better images. This is especially important in low light photography.
When light levels are low, a smaller sensor will generate a higher amount of noise, which will decrease the quality of the images. This is why the best low-light setups include a camera with a large sensor (usually a DSLR) and a lens with a large aperture.

just test the unit at Pavillion Nokia Shop -Camera and Video confirm satisfying ,camera> impressive, video> zoom in and out quickly and able to focus very fast (for me) -Symbian ^3 (nothing much to say, abit improvement but still android makes me feel better) -Sound of the speaker ( no comment, mono sound...but abit better than most of the mono speaker ) -3 colours, green, black ,silver, ( for green, not really love the colour, Malay feel ,black- nothing special, dull,no shiny ,but best colour , silver- looks like a piece of metal, a metal 'toy') -No game installed in the N8, cant feel the graphic stuff -video playback smooth enough, responsive ( i took a video test using N8,1280 X 720p, 19 sec -27MB) -body quite slim and pocket friendly (for me)
Shop seller of the Nokia shop say 16 OCT will be the confirm release, Pre-order need to place RM200 in shop, online Pre-order no need( for meanwhile, but when collect will ned to pay extra 200 i think ) Pre-order will be inform to collect unit around 16-18 Oct

Yeap, thats true. set up the iso might help, but then the trade off is you sacrifice is the detail of it. and the thumb rule of iso is "more iso = more noise."
alright, and i guess its the bintang megamall top shop? heard my friend said that pre-order dont need deposite at there and the shop said the price is 1699.
as long as your name is in the their record book, its the proof of "intention for pre-o".
On the n8, will I come across any difficulty when I wanna read pdf notes or powerpoint presentation due to the resolution? Do i have to zoom in and out often?

What would happen if you pre-order online yet change your mind at the last moment? I'm still having doubts between this phone or htc desire....
hmm...
they will call u on the date mentioned in the website, u will need to confirm with them on that day either u want the phone or not. if yes, deal is on. no, deal off.

tried that on my previous N97 which is 640*360..not recommended la..so hard to view n read..
I guess one of the reason they do the non-deposit preorder online is so they can boast "To date, N8 already has XXXX amount of preorders!" marketing gimmick ma....

Actually it stated RM16XX, but I really wonder if the RM16XX will stay or will suddenly shoot up to RM1899 when the time comes.

but no body mention about once we connected the N8 through HDMI to the HD tv would it supported 720x1280 in apps?? as for the video files playing it do run at HD resolution...

I think its more like how many people would want the N8 on the given shop so they could distribute the right amount of units.
Regarding the photos, I noticed quite a few people mentioned that some N8 have a mild blur on the right side of the images while some don't. Any ideas what could be the cause of this?

finger prints / dirts perhaps?
or that could be the QC problem.

Haha, use N8 would be even sexier... Especially if you could use that prototype software that allows the N8 to function as some motion sensor thingy.

i wonder if the n8 does that. how cool is that! haha! effective presentation!
wanna try tat too...connect via HDMI..lolz~col din have HDMI input projector >.<
eh.. my lecture halls are equipped with adapters for laptops and netbooks so that they can display in projector. is that hdmi on the n8? it's kinda like the adapter used to connect monitor to cpu.

it could be cool if ur lecturer appreciate it, make sure ur lecturer approve it. dont think that all lecturer out there will like it, so, be clever to "bring" yourself with the lil n8
Browsing seems decent. Coz my SGS with high resolution always need pinch to zoom to see clearly. Need nHD doesn't need much. But high resolution would be better for view PDF.
Oh yea, opera mobile is an option to use besides this.

For a 680mhz processor, Nokia did very well in optimizing the hardware. But UI need some tweaking. I mean out of the box and of course we can customize using various theme.
i think numeric keys for portrait mode is handy too. i can txt while drive. one hand only.. haha..plus, WE already so familiar t9 numeric keypad and it gives bigger space for thumbs too.

i think if listen through streo speaker or headphone th e quality should be great since the c6 also offer powerful bass and clear sound (for me) while it is not music type.

that is not true about using high ISO to rectify the snapshot clarity on fast movement object. It is matter of shutter speed!
This post has been edited by Mliven: Oct 9 2010, 12:21 AM
iso = more light and hence light go faster into nokia camera so we can have compensation on increasing the shutter speed.
* faster shutter -> less light in higher iso will be the solution. (forgot to mention n8 cant set the shutter speed)
yup... this would be same as if the N8 can adjust the shutter speed... if the shutter speed increase the phone will automatically adjust to highier ISO to get the accurate exposure... so either way will work... of coz if with the manual shutter speed available we can set it to the optimum as the ISO setting are quite limited...

oh yea, i just noticed that i havent complete about it,
since higher iso allow the camera shoot at faster shutter, so the moving subject can be clearer(but with noise because of iso).
and one of the possible reason people get blur shoot because the lighting is not enough, so the camera need a longer shutter speed to give the accurate exposure to avoid underexpo picture.
Quote from the website - "from the first part of the video, the iPhone 4 clearly looks like a winner as its big sensor manages to capture more light in low-light conditions than the Nokia N8. Faces appear clear and objects don't just look like shadows."

i simplified it for you.

To freeze movement in an image you’ll want to choose a faster shutter speed. The actual speeds you should choose will vary depending upon the speed of the subject in your shot and how much you want it to be blurred. *Thumb of rule, faster shutter speed = more frozen image.
Remember that thinking about Shutter Speed in isolation from the other two elements of the Exposure Triangle (aperture and ISO) is not really a good idea. As you change shutter speed you’ll need to change one or both of the other elements to compensate for it.
For example if you speed up your shutter speed you’re effectively letting less light into your camera. To compensate for this you’ll probably need to increase your aperture(setting not available in n8). The other alternative would be to choose a faster ISO rating (you might want to move from ISO 100 to ISO 400 for example).
Hmm, ya, shutter speed is not adjustable. But, you can do 2 things - use sports mode + High ISO. Sports mode increases the shutter speed, and High ISO means more exposure to light, so, the shutter will not decrease in speed to take in light and focus.
I have a suggestion, u take the phone, set the following settings mentioned, then take a photo of a spinning fan and see how is the result. Thats how i test a camera shutter speed.
If anyone interested, this is a video I took yesterday with the N8. Edited on the N8 as well. Even the music was from the phone's pre-installed music
I was just testing the video editing features. It was an okay tool. Not many features but quite useful for shortening videos, adding some transitions and music. Saving took a long time though, at least 3 mins for this 1.5 mins video.

The camera menu on the right, scroll down to an icon stated "A"(Auto), u can change shooting modes there (the sports mode is an icon with a person running). On ISo, scroll down the menu further lower (there are more options below, keep scrolling) till u see an icon "ISO". I think u get choices like auto, low, medium, and high. My N73 and N95 is like that, but judging on how similar the camera menu is in Nseries, shud be the same as in N85.

the sports mode i know already,,, but the ISO i cant find it anywhere... u've mentioned about low, medium n high right?? is Image Quality = ISO?? i found it in 'setting'
those official shutter speed not reliable 1 coz none of 1 mobile phone using optical stabilizer..all guna digital 1..bo zhun 1 la.
Dont think that there are optical stabliliser on camera phone but then i guess u are trying to say camera phone use electronics to control the shutter, unlike dslr having a real shutter.

err, optical stabliliser will help u a bit on reducing the shake, so when in low light situation, u can shoot with a lower shutter speed. but then i think its only available in dslr.

It is not in the setting. Image quality is the image size. Ur camera 5MP, but u can choose to shoot at 5mp, 3.2mp, 2mp, and 1.3mp. That is image quality. ISO is in the main menu where the mode, flash etc is. Keep scrolling down. You can see 5-6 icons, but there are more below. Dun hav meh?? Even N73 oso got leh - ISO and Exposure Compensation.

The N8 does have a mechanical shutter not a digital one, but of course the speed cannot be manually set.

Not necessary DSLR, some higher-end P&S allows controls over shutter speed, aperture and even manual focus, such as the Lumix LX series.
For smartphones, I guess it depends on the software for control? For low light, we can also play with aperture to gain faster shutter, but will result in smaller DOF.
How about using slow shutter? But will need extreme steady hands or tripod

N8 out already?... I saw Clareen Gallery's fb page...states she has Original N8 already but price will only let us know by Monday so is it really out already?
the main thing is are you going to be in Malaysia more often or in Europe more often for the next 1 year or (2 years since some people said got 2 years warranty) if malaysia, thenbuy from malaysia cause warranty can claim from any NCC in Malaysia but Europe sets can't claim warranty from NCC
Well, if anyone decide to buy BH 505, I'd say maybe you need to try it first. Coz, sometimes, it kinda causes discomfort after prolonged used. And I really mean it, discomfort. That is my main niggles after several days using it.
Woah..~ I tried it already at sunway and ask the price of n8.. its said, approximate below rm2000... hope the price will below rm1800, if above than that.. i need to said bye2 for my pre-order..~ i tried the camera, when press the capture button it only take 1 to 2sec to capture the pic... (not like other phone camera..) The video also look great when i test it.. Look same as wat you capture..

Tho after trying out the unit, i do feel they could improve on a few things. Mainly, the homescreen swipe. The lag that was place there on purpose isn't as nice as the swipe that follows your finger. Fingers crossed that they will change that in a new update.
GLOBAL – September 30 saw the first Nokia N8 shipment leave the factories from Finland and China, and some lucky Nokia fans even received their new, shiny phone the very next day. A myriad of reviews, videos and photos began to fill the Web, with everybody keen to show off their new toy. Join us now, as we focus our attention on what’s being said about the Nokia N8 across the globe.
UPDATE: We’ve just got word that What Digital Camera magazine have given the Nokia N8 the top prize in its camera phone group test in the latest issue. It trumps four other smart phones and is pitted alongside a Canon compact camera. This is some of what What Digital Camera had to say:
“The N8 is way beyond previous mobile phones, and is nearly a match for a compact camera”
Experts at What Digital Camera also said
“Images taken with the N8 more than stand up to scrutiny and would be more than adequate for most casual photographers”
High praise indeed!
—————————————-
It’s only been a week since the release of the Nokia N8 into the wild, and most of you are talking about the camera capabilities of this new device. GSMArena did a thorough job on this, comparing the Nokia N8 camera with two others:
GSMArena: We’re putting the Nokia N8 against both a capable cameraphone (the Samsung Pixon12) and a relatively expensive point-and-shoot digicam (the Sony DSC-HX5v Cyber-shot). And best of all, we’ll start with a blind test.
They are not the only ones, as TheHandheldBlog puts the camera through its paces in day and night time conditions, with a great HD video to watch too.
TheHandheldBlog: When you buy the N8, not only do you buy a great digital camera but also a very handy camcorder. No dedicated pocket digital camera (sub $200) that I have used came close to offering quality similar to the N8′s, specially when it comes to audio capture.
FoneArena have already put fingers to keyboard a couple of times, and give a little insight into how they feel about the Nokia N8. And with this headline, there’s no confusion as to how they feel:
FoneArena: The Nokia N8 Is Perfect, There, I Said It
The author – Rita – then goes on to say:
Nokia still has the lead in multimedia, especially in imaging. Every other smartphone manufacturer is months if not a year or more away from offering anything similar. And still when they do, it won’t be packed in one single device like on the N8.
In their second review, FoneArena’s MichaelxHell shows some great photos, not from the Nokia N8, but of the device itself, taking its viewers on a tour of what they can expect, and concludes with these words:
FoneArena: Nokia is on a Mission now to please fans again – did they succeed, hardware wise? Oh yes, they did. The Nokia N8 is hopefully a first look at things to come. I have never ever had my Hands on a Nokia Device feeling as great as the anodized aluminium body of the N8.
Many blogs, or reviews compare the Nokia N8 with other devices, be it a camera or another mobile phone by another manufacturer. However, Matthew Miller at ZDNet offers very little comparison and reviews the device for what it is. A Nokia N8:
ZDNet: To give you a sense of my take on the device and what you can expect below, let me state that the N8 is clearly the best Nokia Nseries device ever made and is the Nseries device that Nokia and Symbian users both deserve and will appreciate.
While one of the key features of the Nokia N8 is its very impressive 12-megapixel camera, that doesn’t mean that it’s the only thing people are talking about. We’re glad NokiaExperts have noticed the new improved Ovi Store:
NokiaExperts: I am extremely pleased with the performance, design, and overall user interface of the new Ovi Store on the Nokia N8 and already started buying apps in the new store. This is how it should have launched last year and I hope people do give it another chance.
The folks over at AllAboutSymbian, being huge Symbian fans, start by discussing the new Symbian OS. They don’t stop there though, and Steve and Rafe go on further to detail the RAM, the UI and lots more in-depth digging of what the phone has to offer. Along with some nice photos, and a video. Don’t forget to switch the video to HD, for better viewing:
AllAboutSymbian: The Nokia N8, along with Symbian^3 under the hood, fixes most of what was annoying about all of Nokia’s previous S60 5th Edition phones, brings multimedia in line with the Android and iOS smartphones, and has the added bonus of super hardware and the hands-down best camera and camcorder ever put into a phone.
The Telegraph gives the device four stars out of five, and claims it may be an alternative to a business, email device with the ability to hold a charge far more than other devices:
Telegraph: The new Nokia N8 is the Finnish company’s first successful touchscreen phone. It’s neat, good-looking and has a battery that will take you safely from one day to the next. You’ll probably still want to recharge it overnight just to be sure, but our tests saw it last happily into a second and even a third day between charges.
Good to know this phone is getting good reviews. Oh yea, the guys at Nokia mentioned a rather unpleasing news. We will not be getting blue and orange AT ALL. PERIOD. Hopefully they are wrong, but I've decided to settle with silver.
Just came back from the Gardens. Preordered with the guys at Mindvalley. Gardens quoted price is about Rm1800-2000. Tried the working unit there. Not too shabby. Tho after trying out the unit, i do feel they could improve on a few things. Mainly, the homescreen swipe. The lag that was place there on purpose isn't as nice as the swipe that follows your finger. Fingers crossed that they will change that in a new update.
I went there few days ago and they told me it would arrived within days so there is a demo unit now? Wow
i went to taman U also... it said it will be >RM2k the seller kept changing their price.... jusco bukit indah dont know anything if u want to be safe and get everything in order, better go for jusco tebrau city but about official launch date is confirmed 19/10/2010

Yes, one demo unit and a bunch of dummy units. There was quite a crowd around that phone when I was using it, haha. Still, everything else felt smooth except the homescreen swipe. Thats my only gripe. Not a hinderance, but a small gripe...meh.
eh...just now just went pyramid with friends again...today when i go explore, i overheard the shop promoter tell some other customer that the price will be "lower then 2200"...wtf?
btw..congrats on new V + 10 pages in one day...haha..u guys really damn fast lar

>2k is for people who are not aware of the normal price.
im wondering, like me i paid 200 non-refundable deposit at nokia shop. Later when launch they can chop me lor since price not confirmed. Or all nokia shop must follow same price?
Hey u all.. what the suitable price for this n8 ya?? i guess it must below rm1800...
Despite all the function it have (USB OTG, HDMI, Xenon, 12MP with huge sensor, Anodized Alumnium, Capacitive, Free Navigation GPS), RM2k+ should be the price. But I think since Nokia put it in mid-range, RM2k and below is worth.

Uhuh... but i think, if they put the android os in n8.. it can > rm2k right.. huhu.. -i assume around rm2.7k..-
the preorder units were confirmed at <1800...at least that's what the shops promised...
but i think the retail will have a 'last minute price adjustment' for the hype...
i didnt give them middle finger, cos he was serving another customer when he said that...i just budge in and ask: "really? 2200?" he just answer: "Yeah, below 2200 lar"

Without android, it must below than 2k..
OS isn't everything. Android still pretty sucks in optimization. they toss high spec but sacrifice battery life. Still suffer lag if they messed up system files. Same like what happen to Samsung Galaxy S and I'm talking about experiences. Symbian is old and have old UI, no argue about that. But what it achieve is with low spec like 680mhz ARM11, 256MB RAM, the phone perform really well and didn't sacrifice the battery life.

i'm just giving my opinion.. if the n8 has android.. they can put the price bout rm2.7k... (due to market demand of android now days...)
I hope, the symbian^3 did not dispointed us.. hopefully the Symbian people (apps developer) can still produce a good apps for this little sexy thing (n8).. they can concentrate on camera & video apps... (hopefully by doing that, they symbian can go to top back because current OS (adroid & iOS) only concentrate on UI instead of function... correct me if i'm wrong.. ~

If u think new eye candy UI support the price to sky rocket like RM2k++, then u gonna miss other functions. I'm talking about experiences.

really?? Hmm.. i thought the UI make ppl like this two OS.. (most of my friend like to use android because the UI and free apps compare to the iOS).. i never used this two OS be4.. that why i'm said, "correct me if i'm wrong".. hehe..
today i went to Nokia outlet at The Gardens, tried the phone and i can say its amazing..no lagginessess, and the camera really outstanding.. really fast, the photo browser also good, as good as android phone. But i hate internet browser..sucks and not responsive. show some lagginess. The multiple home screen also good la.. there is no 'wait for 1.5sec' la..i love the home screen btw, and the screen brightness and color is really amazing! I think amoled is enough. super amoled is just too overreact la..the screen really amazed me. I also tried music playback on headphone, Using sony's headphone, i can say, ipod does better job in playing music than this N8. the simcard cover and micro sd cover really hard to open and close. ermm.what else huh..
just sharing. i think most of the review also stated the same as me.

What? They have a display unit there already? I checked on Thursday I think but they still hadn't had any units. What about sales units? Can we purchase from there? I work in MV, so it's convenient for me to buy there.

Hmm, reading lots of review and it have been said that the N8 browser is quite underwhelming. Which is for me, not that big of a deal because the ever excellent Opera Mobile is there. And don't forget the new QT-based browser that still in the oven.
Even on Android I prefer using Opera Mini because it compresses the data and caches it on their server first. Only bad thing is no pinch-to-zoom. If I get N8 first time I'm going to install in Opera Mini.
Anyway I hear they're going to release a new official browser for N8 anyway.

Latest opera mini have pinch to zoom, but not smooth like stock browser.

I think u judge android only base on ur SGS which very unfair....
Hey guys! I got a sms from MaxisGift a day or two ago saying that the first 2000 to buy the N8 will get a car charger free. Then it followed with 'win your 2nd N8 by sending N8 to ***** and answer 3 questions' or something like that.

What you guys think about it?
MAXIS????? u sure???? so far nvr heard maxis done promotion with N8..careful

I say if they messed up system files will cause lag. And SGS made me realized that super hardware isn't everything. I can blame Samsung for not optimizing it out of the box.
Bufung, u here only come to kacau potential buyer of n8 la..u always wanted to say cant compare this compare that, n8 cant do this, BB can do that,,u really annoying la..i know u have more knowledge than me but still annoy much of the people here..if cant compare then, why gsmarena provide compare between phone. summore its still phone. u can compare to phone la..we're not comparing N8 with Kia Forte. or comparing iphone with sony HDTV.. not just that post, i am reading all your posts since v4..haiz.. no offence just behave la. ok?

Then wat u said in generally put everything of ur experience to all android mean?
U pretty sure an android in nHD, arm11 will drain more power than a symbian?

spam i think??? because i have a cousin who works at a maxis centre... he said that maxis havent come out with such plans/offers with N8...
i was suspecting that also. but there was no number displayed for the sender, only MaxisGift. I thought only the mobile operator can do that? Maybe I'll give them a call to confirm Who knows Maxis might be selling the N8 with value plans

But think abit, if Android is good in optimization, it won't toss with super hardware that sacrifice battery life. And I didn't say android drain more power than symbian. But it would if optimization is bad. Enough said.
I'm still using SGS and Android is GOOD. But this is my opinion about Android, so whats wrong with that?

You must have fallen asleep then.. It was not his saying.. just a reminder to Nokia fanboy who say we can't compare Symbian phone with iPhone or Android phone.

Well, I can feel your frustration with your SGS. I can understand that because I'm using an inferior Android which kinda lag even as I'm typing this. The main thing is what's you want. If you really wanna enjoy Android, go get unlimited internet la. Don't be bounded by Maxis 500MB quota. I'm averaging 30MB on my phone each day minus teeter.

Which telco offer unlimited internet? Digi? Celcom? And wanna terminate Maxis need pay RM500+.
I hope we will see alot of N8 user reporting and the comparing product vs product or Os vs Os end. haha. Same what happen to other topic.
Honestly, I want to end my silly N8/Symbian with SGS/Android comparison.
You hor.. Symbian will not be challenging for top honour liao. It's the job for Meego, if Nokia managed to support it well. It's a painful farewell but some day IOS and Android will age and go through the same path. It's just that Nokia delay for too long and wasted resources on it.
this thread getting more and more fanboy who cannot take advices to rationally think/balance between advantage of one to another....
sad to see.. but I better let it be... N8 thread.. else I only getting more ppl dislike me....
@Leo, me and Andre mentioned Digi smartplan RM68 few time are well worth and u can use as much as u like....
U use more than RM100(which mean u make call for another RM32) u entitle 15% discount on ur RM68, and if total bill RM200, ur Data is FOC... totally FREE... mean u only getting a bill with only ur call/sms/mms..

and Only praising N8 is contributing here...

Its normal when N8 is very close to the user hands, people hate comparison with comparison in the topic that show disadvantage of the phone. So by the time N8 have their first user, this topic will have normal discussions.
Btw, I have to terminate Maxis with penalty of RM500 (plus the bill RM80+), no money to pay that many

A friendly reminder though.. better use prepaid to check the coverage and speed first. Maxis still has the advantage in coverage. Speedwise is subjective.. I can get up to 1mbps in area with strong signal. Usually is just 700kbps whereas Maxis one can get upto 2mbps at their best. You should've taken 3gb data and pay RM30 more for peace of mind.

SGS ah, i borrow from a rich fren who is using high end phones (he has N900, SGS, HTC Desire). used for 1 week and muz charge everyday. I admit the screen kicks @$$ but even with 1GHz it still lags. I wonder why fandroids keep praising that phone as one of the best (maybe he din update with the froyo thing, from wat i read on9... dunno... but heard it reduces lags)

SGS, the problem is as what i mentioned, the S.Wave ah, the BADAK OS ah... it's like got 200 apps only so far... Same like N900, lack apps cuz'it is standalone OS so far... No need N8u workshop la, can learn to use the phone yourself. I can pick up and get used to it in no more than 3 days - I've been a symbian user and i even get blur when i use SE phones (because their button layout different) and Samsung phones.
Hardware is one of the best, still better than Desire HD processor. And froyo delayed till end of october.
Samsung sucks at software/customer support.
did you try the voodoo lag fix for SGS?
personally I'm using Desire on custom Froyo rom, no lag or whatsoever, the UI of SGS is one of the few reasons why I got Desire instead of SGS SGS's processor is slightly better than the Desire, but in terms of UI fluidity, HTC beats Samsung.
It's not like I don't want to help, but who wanna bear the risk for postage. It's better just pick it up yourself and go for a walk in KL.
Agreed. I shop online a lot, and have been using courier or poslaju, normal pos sucks c*ck one. Pos M'sia ppl handle parcels by throwing them around, some parcels, the contents arrive squashed/dented on the box. So far courier like GDex and Poslaju their service quite good, but a gadget through pos - no no for me. I dowan any risk.

Numbers/hardware aren't everything. Nokia seems haven't optimizing N8's GPU to its fullest. If they fully optimized it, we would see better transitions effect, swipe homescreen and etc2, but no, they decide not to do it. probably it'll effect battery life I THINK

Most likely.
You see the demo of the cover flow, smooth when you swipe here and there.

Wat else u can ask for? That is the bestest phone already...
opps~ sorry...i kept seeing peeps doing it on their ibuahepal...see they have tons of nice apps...tak aci...huhu
Ya its really kind of a grey area. By right, jailbreak discussion, at least in Malaysia, is almost always about installing illegal software. I think there was a debate about this sort of thing on why Nokia 'jailbreaking' is illegal, yet iPhone is ok.
lol lost mine weeks ago that preety good! considering n82 one of the 5mp best shooter out thr. me ip4 hdr mode eat 2-5 mb !!
I still love the pics taken by N82 but I can't stand keypads to type (I was so used to virtual keyboard on SonyEricsson P800 and want to go for touchy screen......plus 12mp!!
Nokia desperately need application... good move although a bit late....
Steve Jobs trying to block application dy... coz getting too much apps...
It would increase the number of app alittle bit plus with Qt (I know we had this discussion, please don't repeat it again), it might help increase the app alot.

just back from pavillion.the broucher of N8 stated high performance.lol.its not technology(no need 1ghz snapdragon or arm a8) its what you do with it...haha.kiam siap nokia marketing strategy.everything is ok but dissatisfy with the AMOLED screen.AMOLED from LG is totally S*** in compare with samsung amoled and i wonder y nokia would like to sourcing from LG.the screen is rubbish in compare with Omnia HD AMOLED.switching between homescreen is slow.
out of topic,Desire HD using snapdragon 8522 right?

Does it matters? If you are a full time developer, it does not matter $50 or $1. This will only introduce spam into ovi store. It may help increase app count like Android. It could turn ovi store into rubbish dump like Android Market. Hopefully it won't lead to that ending.

it will... eventually getting more app in, it will be like that.. in fact u already saw a lot in Ovi now.. "candle light" etc..
Currently it's still not bad. Android Market is few times worse. That's why they made the barcode scanning app.
Let's wait for the phone this coming Friday. I'm thinking to get half day leave but not sure free or not. Was thinking to catch a movie and visit choc fair before getting M8 hands-on.

You never heard of the AMOLED shortage from Samsung?
Even HTC switch from Samsung AMOLED to Sony Super TFT due to the shortage.
What do you expect Nokia to do, wait for Samsung to complete their new factory?
nokia always source their screen from LG,lower quality and cheaper i think.

SlideUnlock is better than side slider IF u want to maintain the phone's sturdy looks. If u keep using the side slider, it will only be a matter of time before scratches, peeling paint and stuff happen to ur slider... Personally I use slideunlock on my X6 just cos I feel X6's slider wont last me long enuff...altho my fren has proven otherwise.
hey u all, can we discuss bout GPS that n8 provide? -or it's has been discussed in other thread?- i dont really understand about free GPS that nokia provided.. somebody can explain bout this?? -i never used the GPS before.. consider me as a noob..

The current maps and navigation solution provided by Nokia allows drive and walk turn-by-turn navigation. Which means you just need to determine where your destination is, and the device will navigate you to the destination while you drive via voice commands. Think of it like a personal guide beside you who knows the roads.
The Ovi Maps preinstalled in your device also allows downloading of new maps, anywhere in the world, covers navigation in almost all countries. All this for no extra cost (except for data costs but you can use wifi). Downloading on device will come in future update so you don't need a computer to update your maps.
IPS is a immature technology, even LG dare not to use it.apple source their screen from LG.(this is i confirm, haha)
IPS has been around since early this decade, it's just that it has been cheap enough now to be used in mass consumer market devices.
I've seen better screens now from technology roadshows but it almost always boils down to price if the technology is ever going into consumer devices.
I have even seen touchscreen displays which integrates the speaker in the screen and provides haptic feedback. The speaker as we know it might be obsolete soon, to enable thinner devices, ubiquitous sound and haptic feedback without an extra vibrating motor.

but the IPS screen got lot of problems and LG said IPS isnt perfect enough?pls correct me if im wrong.
What problem oh? IPS screen is the best. 4 years back and I would say otherwise because it has response time running into 60 ~1xx ms. It has improved tremendously since.
Added on October 10, 2010, 5:41 pmBTW, Amoled if you call it nicely is vibrant. No so nicely, would be un-natural. Or at worse, heavily saturated, inaccurate color..

As for the AMOLED screen, how far the truth is? I have seen some review where it says N8 screen is better than SGS but IP4 screen is better than N8. Iguess they are talking about brightness, correct me if I'm wrong?

Speaking of brightness, N8 beats both SGS and iPhail 4. The only part where N8 lose is resolution. Readability under sunlight N8 also win.
Flicking through YouTube I came across what was supposedly a “review” of the N8 by this kid, “ObviouslyAwsome“. Well first it’s not a review, more a reel of thoughts on the N8 itself. What’s interesting however is that whilst he seems to be anticipating the iPhone 4 for Verizon, he’s well informed about the greatness of the N8 and the fact that it’s using SYMBIAN and NOT Android but noting that “Finally someone’s realising that Android isn’t the best [Operating] System”.
Props to the little guy, I hope more of the US is as open minded as he is on products which are NOT iPhone or Android.
LG AMOLED is more to white and Samsung AMOLED is more to blue..
Good led for backlight should be purely white. thats why N8 one is good quality. i work for LED company, those blue-ish white led is low quality led. those will sell very cheap to outside customer.. maybe samsung they all save cost use paria LED

alright.. u r right..
but the AMOLED/SUPER AMOLED... the problem of blue-ish and red-ish is the nature of the weak point of AMOLED.. colour accuracy still a bit off compare to TFT...
of course because it is a LED by it self, it can be off totally.. and it can achieve better black level hence achieve higher contrast....

eh, use GPS need to charge data right? i sked with maxis they simply charge till RM200 for less than 1 min on their WAP. wanna use digi prepaid again
purely GPS itself do not use data at all... except ur GPS r keep downloading map into ur device while u navigating... then.. also A-GPS which only need little data....
I still dun get it, since Pre-order online no need to place RM200 extra, why dont preorder online instead of going to one of the Outlet and pay more..
the salers in the nokia at sunway said, if u have put a deposit rm200, u can entitle 2 years warranty even after the date line (16 & 17.10.2010). if u dont put deposit and buy the phone after the date line, u wont get the 2 years warranty. that wat he said to me. (the pre-order & did not put deposit can also get the 2years warranty but must pick it up at the date line)

To be frank, an N8 with symbian~3 aka improve/polish version of symbian v5 would be overprice if RRP above RM1800.00

to be frank price wise as long below 2k is ok with all the demands n everything. what lingering on me mind rite now is the overall smothness of the ui. as i still havent got to play it. last time i sez i saw 1 shop got demo, turn out its customer own set from singapopo shop got none. kinda wierd

not sure if this has been posted before, but for those that want to test the N8, or just to have a look at the changes in S^3 without physically needing to handle the phone, you can use the phones available in Forum Nokia's Remote Device Access (RDA).
RDA allows you to connect to a Nokia phone of your choice, and launches a Java window to connect to the phone, live. You can call into the phone, in case you think it's an emulated one
To be frank, an N8 with symbian~3 aka improve/polish version of symbian v5 would be overprice if RRP above RM1800.00
Agree. In US where Nokia phone tends to be expensive it costs USD $550 after VAT and tax. That is RM 1760. So, if in malaysia more than 1/8 k then it is either BolehLand taxing or the shop retailer "taxing" us (to rush n buy early) though it wont happen to official nokia outlets, juz normal retailers.
I think some retailer taking order for 2.29k becos they have no idea the approximate price of the phone. The see the eRing magazine, whoa, so nice specs, muz be 2k+. All retarded one. When i went to ask retailer to help me order once N8 is out on 30th September, he ask, huh? N8? what izit? Got N8 meh? After he check the magazine then he first time see wat is N8. He refused ti speculate/predict the price though, he just took down my details.
LOL I do remember u saying Original 1.9 k AP 2.2k+. First time in my life i see AP>ori in price lol. Maybe their AP means "Advanced Prototype". "Very" limited version?

No, AP Seller having hard time to get the stock, hence VERYYYY limited stock + demand = price really pian eh

Why not, authorised set not yet launch. If authorised set is launched, usually the AP price will go below authorised set pricing.
eh guys yesterday while i was at digital mall, i surveyed this phone shop same level as c-zone i think, the price they selling for pre-order N8 is 1699. I forgotten to ask ori or AP.
Since AP seller are going over RM2k, go for ORI lah.
Yup. My mum using Nokia C5. Last time when she buy the shop seller says AP RM 580, Ori 650. So she buy ori la. WTH, difference RM 70 only. For N8 ori and AP i think difference RM 200 only.

Then I head over to GSMarena.com to see the review for the OS:
QUOTE
Key features:
* Premium mobile OS (high minimum hardware requirements) * Clean, uncluttered interface with distinctive design language * Easy and thumbable user interface * Smooth operation with cool animations and transition effects * A fresh start with no legacy support needed * Backed up and developed by one of the largest software companies in the world * Excellent MS Office mobile implementation * Top-notch social integration * Excellent cloud services integration (SkyDrive, Windows Live, Xbox Live)
Main disadvantages:
* No system-wide file manager * No videocalling * Limited third-party apps * No Bluetooth file transfers * No USB mass storage mode * No memory card support * No multitasking * No copy paste * Too dependent on Zune software for computer file management and syncing * No music player equalisers * No Flash or Silverlight support in the web browser * No sign of free Bing maps Navigation so far * No DivX/XviD video support

N8 is high end for me, only that the processor is mid end. Symbian can compete with high ends, Android and iOS if Nokia just change TWO things - UI design and slap on 1Ghz + 512Mb RAM (increase performance).

If it is simple we dont have to wait for many months. Thats bcos they are trying to optimize the OS and avoid crashing. U slap in Raw power and 1800mAh battery then how? I wont mind paying 2.5k if the specs same as current N8 with more raw power and better UI

Im gonna install new theme once i get my N8, saw some themes even have different looking UI ( stuff like icons, buttons and widgets better design and look better).

Just tested the N8 at The Gardens. Their stocks will arrive on the 16th, price will be between RM1800-RM2000.
Things I liked - Really nice screen. The colours look more vibrant than my TFT HTC Hero. - Overall, Symbian^3 is responsive. Everything loaded quickly. My main gripe is with the home screen non-realtime scrolling, but it's not a big issue. - Simple to use.
Didn't get a chance to test the camera properly because quite a few people wanting to try the phone out.

phone release: on 16 onwards. no earlier release unless nokia decides otherwise
priority: are for those who paid the deposit to collect first. (go on and place ur RM200), next are for those preorder thru the nokia site (maybe separate queue?)
apparently no non-preorder purchase on 16/17
price: the guy dun want to say. he says between the same range as discussed here
package: phone comes with 1+1 year warranty for pre-order units ONLY + spine case and nokia goodie bag (goodie bag - contents unknown - while stock last)
nokia will be calling the pre-orderers to confirm order and allocate the handset before the 16. those pre-ordered, ensure ur phone is reachable!
i think the bitrate is ok lar...sked later bitrate not high enough, later can see petak petak distortion in 720p
original 25fps only 12mbps with 5fps increment so it should be 25% increase 14.4mbps... just my opinion lah... affraid later those 30fps recording come out in EXTREAM huge size...
but for the photo capture mod those EstimatedSize use within the setting file are VERY important as the phone use it to estimate how many balance photos u still can capture within the storage... I manual set this value to a more accurate value for my current modded tube...
