I see...but how to check the negatives? Thanks !

The best way to assess your photos if by inspecting the negatives. Check the density, contrast and grain. Use a loupe and check it. Scanning is a transfer of data, so some data will be lost or altered, therefore it is not accurate.

A loupe and a lightbox (a proper light balanced one if budget permits) they LOOK something like this (again u dont need to spend a bomb on them. The picture is just as example of what a loupe and lightbox look like). Two loupes on top of a lightbox

with this you can inspect the grain, density, detail, focus and colour balance. I also used to determine if my negatives are scratched or just part of the picture (sometimes this is not obvious to the naked eye). Then once I have selected the picture I want I ask for high res scan of that 1 frame... save me some money on having to low res scan the whole roll.

My friend got an old loupe which was originally used for checking stamps, but he now uses it for checking his negatives lol

Just buy any loupe like you said for inspecting stamps, then use your computer screen in a white background or iPad as the lightbox. That's what I do.

riggo, usually densitometer is used by pro lab or university/college or super hobbyist black and white photographer.
i learnt how to use one in college actually and seen it when my colleague was using it to check on the ESIX process for kodak.

A densitometer is a little overkill, but if you really want one, EBay is the place to get it.

Nice clean scans. The second BW photo needs some adjusting on the curves though.

Get a scanner and scan them yourself. A decent one is less than RM 1k now, for both 35mm and 120mm.

Hey guys! Where could I get a reliable film developing service in KL? I have a number of films from my recent trip to Vietnam. I usually go to Photosun SS2 but I wasn't too happy the last time they did my B&W.

Any suggestions? I don't mind paying a little more as this is a one-off. biggrin.gif

Would love to really, and the bazaar looks fun but I just got back from Miri and still recovering from a fever. Anyway I think I'll send the B&W stuff to you, about 2 or 3 rolls. Will PM you.

The rest are C-41 though, any recommendations? I've read that E6 at Pudu is quite professional, anybody here tried their services?
