Managed to try out that brass Sonor Artist snare. Got to see what German quality is all about too.
The snare sounds like how a tasty metal drum should sound; it has an explosive crack and sounds really aggressive.
But at around RM3.3k, it's a wee bit pricey; not sure if it comes with a hard case.
The fit and finish on the hardware ain't that impressive either compared to Pearl's stuff generally.

So... May 7/8 for our lil snare gathering?

Or get a Drum Dial and use the included tuning guide, or the guides posted in forums by other users.
Haven't tried any yet, though... gonna be the next thing when I have time.

When I talk about intervals, sure, you may have your own preferences, but USUALLY on MOST standard kits, the circle of fifths is usually used, because generally it sounds pleasing to our ears.

It's a power chord, so it's impossible to go wrong! tongue.gif

IINM, he compared the things after recording it. Instead of before, i.e. live sound.
I have an issue of Modern Drummer with an in-depth interview where he mentioned all that as well.

I think if it's a good sound, it's good sound whether live or recorded.
But although he's easily one of my top three favourite drummers, I don't really pay much attention to his gears.

He sounds amazing only 'coz he is amazing lah! biggrin.gif
He's gone through so many gears throughout his career and yet he still sounds amazing each time.
I read on some forum that he used a Yamaha metal snare (forgot which model) for quite some time and you can hear it in the earlier albums.

So name list for May 8:
Me
My buddy
Namqul
treflip
Jenglot?

I've used the Tama tension watch before but I like the drum dial better.

I have an 18" HHX Ozone, one my favourite cymbals. There's nothing like it.

how much does a drum dial cost?

IINM, I saw it at JS Music... I think RM300 or something...
I bought mine from US so it's a lot cheaper.

Party2DMax: does the drum dial help in tuning?
*
When I first used these kinda devices, it just confirmed what I was hearing.
Sometimes its not consistent with what I'm hearing too.
Probably has something to do with inconsistent thickness within a single head due to inconsistent stretching which in turn could be due to a lot of things.
And I'm not talking about cheap heads here.

If you can tune by ear, you won't really need it.
There are situations when you can't tune by ear, like if you have to tune in a very noisy environment.

I just use it to have a better understanding of the hoops and heads.
Like die-cast vs triple flange (would love to try a wood hoop), and the quality of a certain piece-of-shit head that's brand starts with "A" tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

Google "sympathetic vibration" or "snare buzz".

Actually.... Ultimate Music has the bigger Stagg collection, not sure if JS has any.
And to be specific, the branch at Sri Hartamas is the one to go to.
Get to whack some expensive MIG Sonor snares somemore tongue.gif

Haha guys, Ultimate Music and most shops aren't that stuck up so I'm not sure what the heck y'all are going on about.

Ultimate Music's staff is pretty friendly. I went over during lunch hour shortly after they opened their Imbi branch and we chatted about their Attack heads and it's unreasonably high pricing compared to the Evans heads at JS, about Stagg cymbals, if his demo kit was tuned right etc. As I left, the guy told me to come back and 'talk shop' more. Their Hartamas branch was pretty cool too.

Namqul, tried out the brass one that y'all mentioned. Only interested in that one. If I didn't get my Dunnett, I could've considered that. I also wanted to know how this Canadian drum with Taiwan hardware stacks up against one of Europe's finest.

Why die cast?
I'd prefer triple flange (incl. S-hoops), which I feel are much better... sound- and tuning-wise.
