Oooo... I could use an extra Gibraltar bass practice pad. Any chance of selling it separately?

Depends on the choice. My snare is way costlier than the Reference, and it has the most expensive shell that Pearl makes. A Masterworks with the same shell costs slightly more, but has nicer finishes, so it works out to around the same value per buck.

Before I forget... a brief description of my latest snare.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Sounds very obviously like a metal shell, less piercing than brass but brighter than maple. Sounded great out of the box, just needed to tighten the snares a bit. Overall, it doesn't have a luxurious feel although it costs a bomb, and there are really lavish ones that go for much much less. This drum was made to be played, a bona fide workhorse that you can rely on to deliver the goods. Does it pass the "would-you-buy-it-again-if-it-was-stolen" test? Yes, definitely.

A bomb is..berapa? biggrin.gif
A bomb is about RM4k including the ATA-approved case and after shipping and tax.

Anyone here wants to venture in building their own snare?
Building, no. Assembling, maybe. Giving ideas and advice, yes.
Wahahaha... I'm cut out to be a consultant.

BTW, Remo heads are pretty good... or at least the better ones that don't come in plastic bags like those at Bentley :S
Id probably like them more than Evans if only it was available here, and at a relatively affordable price.

Would anyone know where I can get a drum strainer, namely Nickel Drumworks, old Dunnett R4, or Trick? Tried JS but the one they have is not what I want.

DW's budget line is called the Performance Series. Where could I try one?

I don't think JS stocks DW, although they do bring them in if you order them.

Since you're the one who asked, what about you share your thoughts first tongue.gif

The reason is because, I'm looking for a loud, punchy and sensitive snare.

When I think loud, punchy and sensitive I think of brass.

It seems there only chatting about new snare u buy and what kit you have in this thread discussion. Nothing much

You should check all the previous posts and the old threads before you talk crap.
There's discussion on technique, instructional DVDs, audio/video recordings, drum clinics etc.

I reckon I have the smallest kit here...
... grand total of only two drums:

Look at all the bad rep at PDF that DW has.

I think Performance series too. All the features and quality, at lower cost.

Hey, we should all pool our snares and have a meetup. It'll be nice to try out other snares, and see how you all tune up your most important drum(s).

Can discuss on head choices as well. Hehe... time to rant about Aquarian.
I've an acoustically treated room and a calibrated (flat) condenser mic. If someone can bring a good snare mic, like a SM57, we can do pretty nice recordings of the collection of snare drums.

I'm only available May onwards. I have a pair of 57s, a 58, a pair of overheads, and a set of cheap drum mics and stands. Its all underutilized, so this might be a good place to finally make good use of it. It would be more interesting if someone can bring few types of hoops too.
*
An SM57 with stand and cable would be perfect.
May onwards ka... sounds about right since I'm pretty occupied as well. Maybe even June.

Unfortunately, its still May onwards. I'm tied down for a huge submission by the end of April. If you guys can wait, I don't mind bringing any of my stuff. I've also bought a Zoom Q3HD for a quick recording that might be useful.
If I'm not mistaken, its Danny Carry signature snare. MIG Sonors are expensive stuff.
*
Alright man. How about you pick a date first smile.gif
BTW, Danny Carry's Sonor snare is not made in Germany IINM. RM3.8k??? That's crazy M'sian pricing right there...

Well, if you pick a USD1000 snare drum like that... I guess it's actually a pretty ok price if they give you a bit more discount.
There are more affordable brass snares la. Even the benchmark, the Ludwig Black Beauty, doesn't cost that much.

Added on March 24, 2011, 10:18 amI think Imma stop by to check that drum out. It's just a few mins walk for me.
Gold hardware... mmmm sexy and luxurious. I really wanna see how good is a real Sonor's fit, finish and quality~~~

Added on March 24, 2011, 2:57 pmUrrggh, those Sonor snares are at their Sri Hartamas branch. Didn't know they opened a new one sad.gif

Bringing the pedals around is a b**** without that case :S

Haha, shouldn't be too hard. It's quite good outta the box.
The only thing I tweaked is the VDL and tightened the spring tension on the slave side to make both beaters rebound at roughly the same rate.
