Getting white oak sticks instead of hickory should help too; Promark and Tama makes these. They're slightly heavier and more durable. Other than that, you can check out Ahead drumsticks, and maybe look at how you're chipping the sticks.
Haha, was anticipating the last episode... will watch it after the weekend ler. In the mean time, yes.... any thoughts? Dunno if phase 3 of the audition is child's play for drummers like Dave Weckl and Vinnie Colaiuta or Gavin Harrison :S I thought that Virgil Donati would be the one lol, upon seeing the roster during the trailer la at least.
Wonder if they'll release a hi-def DVD of this. I'll definitely get a copy. Wanna see Thomas Lang's and Virgil Donati's performance.
Yup, sound reduction. The room's about 12' x 20'. Need to find a cost effective way of reducing the noise of the drums, all i know is that carpeting and using heavy curtains do help. Not sure what else.
Oh, and Marco Minnemann is just , he's the main reason why i got into drumming in the first place, not just an amazing drummer, but a great musician as well IMO. And i think that is what sets a great drummer apart from the good drummers, being a musician first and a drummer second.
His Extreme Drumming DVD, is probably the most extreme drumming I've ever seen. BTW, carpets and heavy curtains don't help that much. You'll need mineral wool; it's a thick felt/wool-like slab made of molten rock or fiberglass. You can do more homework at Gearslutz forum.
Yeah I guess it's off then. Guys please pick a date. I would really like to see all you guys and put a face to these nicknames hehe I'm not free the weekend after the next, and also June 4-5, and June 18-26.
I once joined in a bulk for that. It's sourced from the producer CSR Bradford in Klang. You can get a number from their website and get in touch with their sales rep. Anyway if you're buying, I'd like to buy some too and there's a lot of discount that larger your purchase. I could use another 2-3 packs. You'll probably need to pay for transport which is pretty affordable, unless you have your own lorry/pickup truck. Last time I drove a jeep 2 - 3 times for my 6 packs. A sedan won't even be able to carry one pack.
Can't be bothered with the exact name but IIRC I got the 35kg/m3 one in 50mm sheets. The products they list on the website is just for show; stuff might not be in stock, and/or unlisted products might be available. Just be sure of the specs (density, thickness, size etc) that you require.
If you don't have a clue what you need, you can do your homework at Gearslutz forum or ask the sales rep.
BTW, I also have a lot of leftover thermofoil paper that I can sell cheaply, if you know what to do with it

Just wanted to remind all you beginners that a good sounding drum doesn't really mean that it will sound good 100% of the time without any effort, it just means that it has the potential to sound good. And whether it fully realises its potential depends on the owner's tuning skills, and how much TLC is showered on the drums. Not forgetting the skills of the player as well.
I'm saying this as I tuned one of my snares. I took some time and I'm feeling very satisfied; it's tuned lower than average, but the attack and articulation is so sharp and tight now, my ears were cut (lame joke I know ) I left it out in my room and went for holidays and when I came back it detuned even more than after flying halfway around the world. Not sure if it was the really hot weather or w/e.
This got me thinking about how being able to afford a drum doesn't only mean spending moolah, you must also be able to spend time and effort in the long term. In short, it's the passion lah~~~
Pretty aggresive. Sounds like Bullet For My Valentine.
Haha, I do like Slipknot. They got good music and JJ writes the riffs. If it's someone respected putting down a band/music you like, then there's reason to feel disappointed; but if it's a nobody, don't pay it any mind...
That Chris Adler vid... the whole clip should be watched in its entirety. Modern Drummer 2005 or something. You can see that the guy's really down to earth and in one issue of the mag, he had really good advice for parents/kids for buying drum gear.
As for MP, those who watched the drummer hunt by DT can see that so many of the finest drummers can't fill his shoes. I was really rooting for Virgil Donati on that one
Go to Sri Hartamas la, Ultimate Music... The dude there gave me the catalogue without my asking, somemore can 'jam' there - they have full band equipment set up. Test till you're satisfied.

Saw an ad for that in a drum magazine some time back, his 'description' for the Speed Cobras is the same as for Axis pedals when he was with Axis :S Anyway, IINM he played vintage Pearl pedals in his instructional DVDs... not that I was paying attention to his gear ><
