QUOTE(gladfly @ Mar 23 2012, 01:27 PM) Actually there is a market in Malaysia for Grand Seiko. Just that ...the public perception is "its only a Seiko". The Ananta range is beautifully made..and a lot of watch for the money. Just look at the sweeping hands of Ananta Spring Drive and you will understand. Personally I wont mind paying 10k-20k for a great watch (it doesn't matter if its a Seiko..hell its just branding la) The gliding motion of the second hand is unique in Spring Drive wristwatches, but electric powered wall and mantle clocks have the same gliding motion. The article below explains the operation of a Spring Drive movement. CloseUp: Seiko Spring DriveIn the 70's there were also electromechanical wrist watches with the battery and electronic module replacing the mainspring that powers the watch. e.g. ESA cal. 9154 Dynotron Spring Drive is unique but in my opinion, its just another version of a more advanced Seiko Kinetic. I would prefer an Cal. 8RXX watch over the Cal. 5RXX or 9RXX Spring Drive. A true mechanical movement watch that can last a lifetime.

QUOTE(twho @ Mar 26 2012, 06:23 PM) Hi guys, Just need your experience on City Chain shop. Normally how much % discount do they give for seiko's? Is there a fixed % as they quite reputable. (many outlets) If it's fixed, i'll save a journey down to check Thanks I dunno but the standard discount for most watch shops is 15% and sometimes a bit more. Look and ask around and do some research before buying. I prefer to go to a shop owned by a proprietor. QUOTE(wiraone @ Mar 26 2012, 06:36 PM) Yup, did call them before and they said that they'll call me back. That was early March. I guess I need to give them a call again tomorrow and see. Please keep us updated. Mine's in May, but I might get the same experience.

QUOTE(Naka7a @ Apr 9 2012, 07:01 PM) Bro walikard, oddly enough... Both my mako and seiko Pepsi was scratch at the same spots at the bak case because of the NATO straps. I got two diff straps. Hmmm QUOTE(Everdying @ Apr 9 2012, 07:56 PM) weird that a nato can scratch the case. maybe u got some small hard object that u cant really see lodged in the strap grooves? It's due to quartz and silica particles that are trapped in the nato strap after a while from airborne dust. Those particles are hard enough to scratch metal casings and mineral crystals. Clean the strap daily, use 2 piece straps or use metal bracelets for outdoor use. Personally, I prefer metal bracelets because I like to wash my watch with soap and rinse under running water at least once or twice daily to keep it clean and prevent dirt and grime buildup.

QUOTE(walikard @ Apr 10 2012, 08:59 AM) Nicely explained bro Catnip...thanks a lot I guess I need to be extra careful too afterwards...should Naka7a not mentioning, I wouldn't know. Thanks to you guys You're welcome. QUOTE(deriku @ Apr 10 2012, 09:09 AM) Wow you got a stringent routine going there. I only clean/wash mine whenever buildup becomes obvious. Other than that my watches never touch water no matter how water resistant they are I spend a lot of time working outdoors, exposing myself to the weather elements. I love the feeling and the appearance of a clean metal bracelet and watch on my wrist.

True. Eventually the rechargeable storage device or whatever they choose to call them will need to be replaced. Can last for 10 years or more. BTW, isn't this a Seiko thread? Unlike Orient, Citizen is unrelated to Seiko apart from the country of origin. Besides that, I hate Citizen with their current repair policy. If anyone gives me a one as a gift, I'd rather smash it to pieces rather than giving it to someone else. Time to make a new thread for Citizen watches?

Yours is a new one and you shouldn't worry too much about it. 1. Citizen will only repair watches that is brought in though their official channels. These watches will have some markings inside to differentiate from the grey market. 2. Once the movement is phased out, they will not replace it with a newer compatible movement. In short, if you have an old quartz movement, Citizen won't replace it for you even though the watch is perfectly repairable. I will never support this type of company.

You need to take good care of it then. Don't let the battery die out and leave it too long in the watch. With proper care, I'm sure that you can still enjoy using the watch for a long time.

Once the movement is replaced, wouldn't you consider the watch repaired? Citizen has a compatible quartz movement for mine, its just that its against their policy to replace it.

Still keeping the watch since it has a big sentimental value. As for repairing the watch, I'll look for a good independent watch repair shop and ask for their opinion. When I'm free.

QUOTE(Naka7a @ Apr 18 2012, 10:20 AM) what i meant was, as stated by catnip... if there is anything wrong with my movement and say if it is no longer in production... they won't replace the movement for me... Like I said. Don't worry about it. Yours is powered by a Citizen Cal. No. 0510. It also designated as Miyota 0S10 movement for non-Citizen watches and it is still being produced today. Getting one should not be a problem. I don't know about the production status of your watch model, AN880-57E. Are you sure that model is obsolete? QUOTE(iamadrianlee @ Apr 18 2012, 10:26 AM) As long as its still within the 3years warranty period, Citizen will repair it either via a movement swap. They might have to send it back to Japan though. I think Catnip's case is his watch is no longer covered under warranty. Yup, out of warranty. All quartz these days are using 0 jewels but mine is a obscure Citizen Cal. No. 1250A 2 jeweled quartz. Doing research and gathering info before taking further steps.

QUOTE(fariq_azad @ Apr 20 2012, 05:18 PM) can you guess what were the giveaways that showed it to be fake? 1. Seiko 5 logo on the crystal 2. Chapter Ring, Bezel, and Dial markings are not aligned. 3. The date font is misaligned with dial 4. Bezel looks slightly bigger than the original 5. Crown guard profile is wrong. 6. Crown is also bigger than the original.

QUOTE(wiraone @ Apr 26 2012, 02:10 PM) Yup, fluffy, just did the same thing as you said, went to Pavillion but didn't know which entry/exit need to go to Central Plaza, the end, I did quite a walk today to get to Central Plaza .. yesa.. got back my Pepsi and it comes with 6 months warranty for the things that they fixed. Thanks for the update. So how is the watch? Did they make any effort to polish the casing clean the bracelet etc? Mine written ready on the repair chit on the 7th next month. I'll probably stop by at the Tag Heuer Service Center at the 23rd floor to send my other watch for servicing.

I collected my Seiko 5M43-0A20 on Monday from Thong Sia.... It was due on the 7th, got a call from Thong Sia on the 11th informing that it was ready and I collected it on the 14th. Instead of having a 1 week reserve, now my watch has 6 months power reserve from the KSU. 2 days after synching it with an atomic clock time, it is -3 seconds off. Since it is covered with a six months warranty, I'll keep an eye on it and will send it back if it is out of spec.

QUOTE(fariq_azad @ May 20 2012, 01:24 AM) made the right choice in getting the skx399, its like an skx007 with a facelift (chromed hour markers) and another rare seiko. speaking of 'rare'ness I have a fetish for rare, discontinued, limited editions. but in the case of seikos you really have to do your homework and only those in the know would fork out a substantial amount just to grab their hands on a particular model i.e. the sammurai or the submariner. how much would u pay if stumbled upon a used SKX031/033? For those interested in collecting these Seikos, the main problem is verifying the authenticity of the watch. Someone could take an SKX007, get the necessary spare parts, make it look like a rare model and make a nice profit out of it. If it does not have the full documentation that comes along with the watch: receipt, warranty card, etc. My advice is to just walk away.

I think I saw an SKX033 for sale at a watchshop near the KL Central Monorail station for RM795.
Or maybe it was an SNZF15K1. They look almost the same.

QUOTE(JackLee88 @ May 21 2012, 07:42 PM) just wondering whether any of you wind your non hacking movement backwards to create a little pressure to stop the seconds hand from moving, when setting the time? will it spoil the movement? Sometimes, but not on purpose. It might damage the parts.

QUOTE(Naka7a @ May 22 2012, 10:59 AM) hmm.. if only they have the 031.... no more pepsi for me... I'll try to look out for one. QUOTE(walikard @ May 23 2012, 04:19 PM) Guys, it seems that 7Sxx series will soon become extinct...more and more entry level 4rxx-powered seiko is coming out... http://detikduabelas.blogspot.com/2012/05/...-fru-rm820.htmlSo 7Sxx hunters please act now or regret I hope not. 7SXX are the longest production Seiko movement. It is possible though if their marketing strategy wants to put Seiko on a higher range and Orient in the budget range. The 4RXX series are expensive compared to 7SXX series. Today the cheapest Seiko 5 can be bought for RM180. Still remember buying my first Seiko 7S26A at RM99.

QUOTE(toytoybuysell @ May 23 2012, 10:27 PM) how much is the skx007 now new... rubber/bracelet? The best offer that I've seen for one with a jubilee bracelet is RM600.00. No need to spend so much for BF. It's the thought that counts, right? For husband is another story. Go for SSB045P1. Can get for RM300+ here.Besides, the bezel on SNAA41P1 can be easily scratched compared to the former. This post has been edited by Catnip: May 25 2012, 01:22 AM

QUOTE(Wild_Rosee @ May 25 2012, 12:05 AM) wow, the shop offered me rm460 after discount bezel is the round casing surrounding the "face "? may i ask why is the SSB045P1 more scratched resistant than the SNAA41P1 ? Yes. The tachymeter markings is located on the outside for the latter. It's can be scratched easily if accidentally banged into a hard object since it is painted onto the bezel. The former has the tachymeter markings inside the dial protected by the bezel. It's cheaper with a dial layout like an Omega Speedmaster.

QUOTE(toytoybuysell @ May 26 2012, 11:24 PM) i hv nvr check how much gain exactly, but gains nvrthless... so how one deal with it? When not wearing the watch. e.g when you are sleeping. Regulate it a bit by positioning it on the table. Watch runs slow: Position it dial up flat on the table. Watch runs slightly fast: Put sideways crown down on the table. Watch runs a bit faster: Put sideways crown up on the table. Every watch has a different rate so need to monitor your watch with an accurate time reference. Windows OS internet time synch works best for me.
