Asus A42Je, i3 370M + ATi HD5470, freeDOS@RM1999
lower than this pretty much similar spec around AMD P320/P340 with HD4250 or Intel P6000/P6100/P6200 with GMA HD and freeDOS
more than that, pretty much no more freeDOS...

Just upgrade it according to your need?
No need to worry extra heat from the backlit keyboard...

9 cell battery would make the notebook even heavier...
The 1080p screen from review seems like a good screen...

upgrading the processor won't really help gaming performance, but its necessary if you want the GT435m. (dell forces you to upgrade it)

A42Ja would be better, but if you want to save cost, 4820TG also works fine...

hi guys,

i am looking for a netbook with a wireless card that can run ubuntu/backtrack for pen testing on the go.

Most netbooks come with the broadcom wifi card so its not suitable for what i am looking to do.

Also planning to install multiple os on it, so pls recommend for a pretty good netbook.

last criteria is that i don't want HP netbooks, kinda hating the brand now.

Am open to suggestions, even if its laptop and not a netbook.
Do let me know.

Any recommendations?

guys ... need your pro advice here..

budget <2.5k

usage : surf , light gaming, hd movie (not really a priority) , amature photo editing ( photoshop)

the most important thing for me is... must be able to take abuse from a noob , not those water spill thing... but in term of durability ...

cheap

i leaning towards acer, since i read it is now already improved in term of quality .. but you can throw in other model as well for consideration

your help is really appreciated... really blur here... long time d not following all these lappy tech

tq

Still pretty much 4820TG since the other Acer model is just i5 + GT420M or i7 + GT420M or i7 + HD5650...

Acer 4820TG, i5 460M + ATi HD5650@RM2599....
Or if really clumsy, take Dell Inspiron 14R and upgrade its warranty as long as you could....

but for business its better to go with either the dell xps or acer 4820tg, the brushed metal palm rest looks more professional (i mean, if need to use in meeting and such xD) not to mention the battery life in the acer.

if you want a sportier look, but still quite decent, there's the lenovo y460... but that's my opinion... but that's the 3k limit, same as the XPS 14

also got the HP DM4, not as powerful, but the design is quite sleek. Just need check about heating issues....

hmmm lenovo is not on my list bro...they are pretty pricey...

normally i will use the laptop to do presentation to client...i guess 14" will be good enough
so acer batt life will be better?

can play games like star craft 2?

oh, need do presentation might want to stay away from XPS line, it doesn't have VGA port.

Yea, the Acer 4820tg can play starcraft 2. Want to find out what settings can go over to the Acer 3820TG and 4820TG owners tread here
