Hi guys, I'm looking for a new gaming laptop that is quite slick.

Brand. Any
Budget. About 3k
Specs. Preferably i7 with good graphics card.
Size. Doesn't really matter.

How come I can't find A42SV anywhere also? Not out yet?

If you don't mind Acer, Acer 5750G is the best bang for the buck nowadays...

If wanna stick to Asus.. There're quite a few models coming in... Where did u heard of X42Ja? U mean A42Ja with i7-740QM and HD5730 is it? That one selling for RM2999 or less nowadays..

X42Jr is a NO NO if you wanna do gaming... HD5470 is too weak for any future games, can only run current games with low settings...

The few new models Asus coming soon are

A42JP - i5-480m with HD6570 (stronger than HD5730) @RM2699
A52JV - i5-480m with GT540M (stronger than 5730 slightly weaker than HD6570) @RM2699

N43JF - i5-480m with GT425M (slight weaker than 5730 but N series is premium series with better sound quality and build) @RM2699
U41JF - i5-480m with GT425M ( U series have long battery life and slim profile ) can last up to 8 hours... @Rm2999

If want Sandy Bridge,
A42SV - i7-2630QM with GT540M @RM3199

Sorry its A42Ja...
im sorry but when i went shopping, the latest model of ASUS i can found is a ASUS A42JA.. with price of 3.2k

Yes i want to stick with ASUS, preferring i-7,

HD 5470 1GB isnt good enough for current gaming? because right now im using ACER ASPIRE 4730Zg, with Dual Core only, and the game runs fine for PES 2011

and above recommended laptop, isnt i-5 going to be not good enough for the next 4 years?

THANKS for the help btw.

Asus A42Ja is only selling for RM2999 nowadays...

HD5470 is not sufficient at all if you're a serious gamer.. Games like PES2011 and Fifa are low requirement games so they're an exception.. i5 Dual core is sufficient in gaming because most current games only utilises 2 cores...

i7-720QM is only useful if you got programs that utilises quad cores...

Unless you get sandy bridge quad cores, that's a different story cause Sandy Bridge quad cores have high clock...

Higher clocked 2-core is better than quad core?
This should clear the misleading myth for Nehalem.
(Who started spreading the misleading info?)

Same GPU. Same resolution & setting.
Different CPU. Different RAM capacity.
This is the closest or the most detailed comparison I can get.
(there are other reviews on both i7/i5 notebooks at Notebookcheck too but the benchmark results are not as detailed as this one).

Let's forget Nehalem and move to SB.
Intel has rectified the "misleading info" in both dual & quad core for Sandy Bridge.

iirc the 'rumor' was that its better value to get the dual core instead of quad core if you don't use programs that utilize quad cores. saving you around 400 to 500 ringgit. You look at the benchmark, they score roughly the same, thus justifying saving that money to buy something else... or maybe just save it in a bank.
