1. Power off first.
2. Wait 10 secs.
3. Press Power button, Home button and VolumeUp button and hold them down.
4. When the Galaxy S or GT-I9000 words (I forget what exactly) appear, let go of the Power button, but keep holding down Home and VolumeUp.
5. You should see some small text appearing on the screen. Let go of all buttons.
6. A menu should appear, there should be an option named 'Apply sdcard/update.zip'. Use volume keys to move to that option.
7. Press HOME to execute. The phone should reboot and it should be rooted now.

P/S I hope your phone has the Recovery mode enabled, some newer phones reportedly come with this option disabled.

If you dare to flash the bootloader, you can fix it. I took the risk and flashed both PBL and SBL. Now my SGS has recovery/download mode.

Apparently, my phone is able to enter the recovery mode.

I thought I tried earlier, which wasn't able to enter. Not sure if it was because I had the casing on (Capdase cover, semi transparent one), maybe unable to properly press on the 3 buttons.

Or probably because now that I was charging the phone using PC and earlier when I tried, I was charging with charger/not charging.

Anyway, good to know I can enter recovery mode without patching. Can start to gather all the info on rooting this babe.

i've tried many leak froyo from jp3 until jpk, in terms of speed, i say you can have more smoothness in eclair + any lagfix, without lag fix, i would say it pretty much the same after you use it some time, but eclair get laggy much faster than froyo, froyo could tahan until 100++ apps or so, then lag start.

in terms of GPS and stuff, i would say it depends on firmware, i just flash mine to DXJP1, DX means it from our region(SG/MY), and holy mother of god, the gps is much better than any previous firmware i use. in JPK gps seems useless, in JPH at start it was good, but after i reflash from JPK back to JPH it kinda like useless again. in JP3 it was so so only

but of course upgrade without anything being add-on is just a useless update, so in froyo we get much more than eclair i would say and the upgrade for me is something that i couldnt live with, that why i stay with the leak froyo despite eveything people say.

first of all of course you get the full flash web browse, i could watch video/youtube in webs without using youtube apps, without going into youtube mobile, i could surf facebook quite smoothly i must say and in DXJP1 the flash seems like at it final stage, all smooth no lag, you could also play facebook games, but the interaction are not as easy as computer of course.

then another upgrade that i like is you get a small cursor now in text box, so if you write a looooong words and sentences then you notice got error in the middle, just tap the box and you get a small cursor that easy to drag to move to the error, unlike eclair where we have to struggle to use our BIG finger to tap the cursor between the alphabet 

theres also preview windows for app drawer just like preview windows of our homescreen, pinch it and we could see all the app drawer windows, easy to find that one app in the forest of apps, but its not fully functional yet, as it gets tooooo laggy when there are like 8-10 windows of apps,

Smooth, one u apply lagfix., but need to mount to rw, then only can instal oclf.

For other version of froyo no need to mount. But smooooooooth as well..but different build got diff problem...

If u thinking of using froyo, my suggeston jph, or jpk.

Mine is Maxis set. 

dont put high expectation on Samsung though. they delayed Froyo few times already. 

My calender is synchronised to Google Calender and Facebook. There seems to be incomplete synchronisation with Facebook events and calender. Some friend's birthday doesn't appear for god knows what reason. Some events don't appear until it was 1 day past. Lol.. Not reliable.

yeah i know that, my only expectation that they fix it good, as long as no more lag and fixes some stuff then it should be good
i mean we wouldnt want to rush things out ...like desire's froyo got bugs here and there..at least if its delayed, at least itll be
a good version ones..not the UNFINISH version

I think the problem is with FB itself.
Sometime FB notifies 1 day late dunno for what reason :s

^ not sure about Hotmail. Were you using IMAP for Gmail? If the # of mails or actions done not updated. It could be due to your connection has lost when you were performing those actions (delete, save draft, etc).

Try to repeat those actions when you have your connection back, or when it's stable. It happened to me before previously, when I was about to enter the lift.

maybe if u wan't to try to root u can try oneclick root..googled it..with this method u can know if ur sets is recovery mode disabled or not...because using three button combo.it's quite hard even for me that frequently flashed my phone..LOL...
