RIO FERDINAND has gone to extraordinary lengths to make sure he is fit to shore up Manchester United's defence tonight.

The defender STOOD UP for virtually the whole two hours of United's flight to Spain yesterday to counter any further problems with his back.

Ferdinand is also using a special booster seat to help with the problem that has plagued him since December 2008, causing him to miss 61 of United's last 103 games.

While he has recovered from the knee injury that ruled him out of the World Cup, his back is still causing him trouble. And the booster seat goes everywhere to ensure his back is aligned properly.

United desperately need him back as they have had their worst start to a campaign defensively in nine years, letting in nine goals in their first six league games.

Ferdinand, 31, is yet to start a league game but played the full 90 minutes against Rangers in United's opening Champions League game two weeks ago.

Im not too sure guys. To say Owen is in top form is abit of overstatement. Scunthorpe and Bolton, he did very well but to say he's in top form..I dunno. I would prefer us start with 4-5-1, then maybe sub him in later stage in the game.

That's just pure arrogant and if more fans think like this, we will end up eating the humble pie by 5am next morning. Confident with the team is one thing but to look down on the opponent in such way?

what if u are Owen. what do you think? U did everything a normal striker does to start more often. He score 2 against Scunthorpe but that wasn't enough. He had to salvage a point for us within like what? 5 minutes after introduced? If Rooney did both in 2 consecutive weekend, everyone would have praised him like God, but when it comes to Owen, its always, 'ahh he should be fine on the bench, he likes it there'

i dont really know about Valencia, but judging on their last season form( i watched a few matches last season, it was all Valencia's lost, i dont know why i am lucky) and it was kind of boring with the way they play. Juan Mata is going to pump the ball to Silva, who crosses in for Villa/Zigic. Its always this 4 guys. I dont know who they played against, was it against big teams? Or was it like Chelsea
