Rio may play, Wayne out weeks

QUOTE
Sir Alex Ferguson will give Rio Ferdinand every chance to prove his fitness ahead of United's clash with Valencia on Wednesday night.

The Reds have conceded 10 goals in the seven games Ferdinand has sat out this season and the manager hinted on Tuesday that the England captain could be in line to make a return against Spain's current league leaders.

But Sir Alex said he won't make up his mind whether to start Rio until the day of the game.

"It's a decision I'll take tomorrow," he told journalists on Tuesday evening at the Mestalla. "He's had plenty of training and a couple of Reserves games - he also played against Rangers and Scunthorpe - but he’s been out for five months.

"That’s why I didn’t risk him on Sunday against Bolton. I felt that would be a physical challenge so we decided to stick with Nemanja Vidic and Jonny Evans, who have done very well for us. I have no complaints about their performance levels."

Fitness clouds also hang over Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Wayne Rooney, although none of those players travelled to Spain on Tuesday morning.

Rooney, who picked up an ankle knock at the Reebok Stadium on Sunday, is looking at "two to three weeks" on the sidelines, while Paul Scholes faces a 10-day lay-off with a calf injury.

"You don’t want to lose your best players, that goes without saying," the manager said. "It was a big decision to leave Scholes behind. He's been in terrific form and now we'll have to adjust the team."

this will be the only time an international break coming into play at a right time.so 2 weeks no football, 2 weeks time cut short for rooney and co to get them self healed up.

I'm worried...Eversince I've been a Man Utd fan, I rarely get worried. But I still BELIEVE. Really hope Rio's back tonight. At least it'll bring a bit of stability in the team.

rio and wes, both need to prove their fitness.fergie wants to extend their use in the league thus they havent seen any "real" action so far.

it would really be disappointing and hard for us if both of them had a repeat of stop and go playing time.its due time they clear their injuries for a lengthy period of time.

we hv big squad.. our subs and young are good enaugh to cover the first team. always been like that. that the different between big club and moderate ones
playing away vs valencia definately not easy task. bet pundit and bookies favour home team win. if we can maintain our away form its good enaugh i think tongue.gif

For league matches only.

Even with the Euro list, we should able to survive. since only Giggs, Scholes, Rooney & Valencia missing. That's 4 out of the squad.

yeah couldn't agree more and i think every season when there's a point where the big players are out, the team has a tendency of playing more vigorously. probably the 2nd string players wanna show SAF that they can step in.

valencia and sunderland won't be a problem ... i think biggrin.gif

doubt can watch the match later cause have to drive to penang at 8am sad.gif

Even if United got two draws in the next two games, I dont think United would be that much affected. Two tough away games for any teams in any

league. Even if the names are not synonymous with "Big Two or Big Four" tongue.gif . It is a league (marathon) anyway, not a sprint. rclxms.gif Just hope there

will be no more major injuries to the squads, and within these next few weeks, I am sure the squad will be stronger and when X'mas comes along,

the team will be at its highest form and Rooney will be back after few weeks good rest (which he desperately needs, along with Evra). Two of our most

influential players last season, are having torrid time mentally and emotionally, esp. Rooney, so the rest should do good for both of them. Time for

De Laet or Fabio to step up. JOS? As much as I like his versatility, he is very average, and keeps doing silly mistakes. Fletcher is just unlucky with

Bolton deflected goal, but during Liverpool's game, he was slack, esp. during 2nd half. Cant wait for tonites game!!! Enough ranting for today!

agree, can step in or not ...

so tonight a lose in spain means they can't step in. that simple.

and i seriously confident valencia will beat united tonight. not because i am glory hunter, i only say base on current form and united past history in spain which is horrible.

but i still support united even they lost to valencia.

u judge young players by one match only? give 'em a break mate. sweat.gif

there's no harm fieldin youngters, but not in d stage of cl for me, i'd still prefer we stick w d old guards. away to spain is never easy but i'm targetin at least a draw considerin we only have few absentees. no doubt d team performance will be slightly discounted but don't u think it's too early to write our lads off as early as now? yawn.gif
