d4rkholeang3l: I dunno man. To be polite and optimistic to all parties involved, you didn't get her best angles.

You made her look 'bengang' with you. Her jaw is too masculine.

(I really don't like her fringe, but that's beside the point.) If you do feel that her face is that interesting, go for an extreme closeup, where half of her face is cropped.

The challenge for photographers is to bring out the subject's best angle (especially when it is the client - you don't want to shoot a bride looking 'tembam'!)

Now that is not to say that models must all be photogenic. Supermodel faces are not the same face type as swimwear models, for example - they have to be plain, but with a unique feature that either annoys you or is a strong compelling feature.

hello~
thinking of buying a55 at the end of the month..
Where should i buy and should i get the add-on 50mm lens or a speedlight?.. and, can anyone pls tell me what's the price like?..hmm.. Previously was thinking to take a550, but as ppl tell me, better take a55, new model... smile.gif
so, tried the a55 at Sony Style @ KLCC just now, and i was very satisfied with it although i'm a bit afraid to fiddle around with the unit there... Can't wait to fiddle with my own a55...hehe
*
i was there today too, at around 5pm
bought along a sd card to test it since that time not much ppl anyway
anyway, the EVF is really nice and there is no difference from looking at the LCD
noob question here: i found out that the shutter won't release when it doesn't focus (eg, too close to object), is there a setting to change that?

Guys need your help. I kena the Alpha poison and now its time for me to buy one for myself.

Am currently deciding between A33 with twin lens (18-55 and 55-200) or A55 with 18-55. Price range is almost similar.

Help?

wow..thanks alot for the guidance...
i totally agreed that the angle is a bit 'not nice and special'

i was fiddling with the 50mm f/1.4 ytd..well, it's my first time using such wide aperture lens...
really difficult to get focused shot..
everytime i recompose, i will go OOF... any guides?

still got alot to improve on portraiture...

another possible choice that i've found is to lock focus first, then re-compose and release shutter

haha...she wont run..
but i was wondering any way to lock focus and recompose ?
DOF is too thin..very difficult...

even sometimes when i use spot focusing with the side AF point, it's not composed the way i want

reply to both:

cannot la..if you recompose and focus, your focus point sure run one. especially so when your D.O.F is so shallow.

reply to ray:

what you mean composed the way u want? composition and precise focusing is two different things. hmm.gif

let's say if i want it to be at the upper right corner of the frame, i still need to focus on her eye (with the upper right AF point ) oni recompose the pic in the way i want by moving the camera slightly diagonally to the left.

but by the time i recompose, her eyes is already OOF...

evilhomura89, ProX: Some Alphas have the option to choose between Focus Priority and Release Priority. If there isn't an option in the menu it means the default is Focus Priority.

You can however insist by switching to MF. (Thanks zstan for the tip first!) Also, the 10 FPS mode is Release Priority (but the first shot must be in focus).

d4rkholeang3l: Don't recompose!

http://www.mhohner.de/recompose.php

Use the side AF points, or manually focus. Or just do something else, shoot differently. You don't have to shoot all medium or full body portraits.
