From Wikipedia:
The Chinese giant salamander (Andrias davidianus) is the largest salamander in the world, reaching a length of 180 cm (6 ft), although it rarely - if ever - reaches that size today. Endemic to rocky mountain streams and lakes in China, it is considered critically endangered due to habitat loss, pollution, and over-collecting, as it is considered a delicacy and used in traditional Chinese medicine. Records from Taiwan may be the results of introductions.[2] It has been listed as one of the top-10 "focal species" in 2008 by the Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered (EDGE) project. From other sources: The Chinese giant salamander is the largest living species of amphibian, reaching a maximum length of 1.8 metres. It lives in cool, fast-flowing streams and mountain lakes and predominantly feeds on fish and crustaceans. The breeding season occurs between August and September when 500 eggs are laid in a burrow guarded by the male. This species is threatened by over-harvesting for the food trade, as well as the destruction and degradation of its habitat. It is now Critically Endangered, having undergone a massive population decline over the last 30 years. Evolutionary Distinctiveness Order: Caudata Family: Cryptobranchidae How cute is that? It's like a Pokemon. ![]() It's so cute! ![]() ![]() People from China should stop eating them. Or at least breed them for food, not catch the wild ones. |

Does anyone know where to get feeder lobster?
I am looking for more variety of feeders for my lungfish. I am currently feeding it pellets, feeder fish, goldfish, shirmps, and mystery snails (it's the most interesting when it's eating these). Feeder crabs will do too. |

Where is your "here"? I want to get a few then. Stupid LFS in Puchong and Sri Petaling so expensive.
My aba-abas throw the snails around in the aquarium but don't eat them. Maybe they prefer fish, but I'd like to see what happens if I put in a crayfish or crab. I think they are bored. |

Saw a 1 and a half feet black tip shark (marine) for Rm 900 at an aquarium shop at Sri Petaling. Probably the only interesting fish they had there.

Hey guys, I wanna ask if anyone knows anything about the aba-aba knifefish being an protected species?
I posted an ad on Mudah some weeks ago and the ad was published. But today they notified me that the ad had to be removed until I provided some license. "The ad violates the rules of mudah.my: Animal restrictions Thank you for using our services. Mudah.my does not permit listings for animals prohibited by the Wildlife Protection Act 1972, Fisheries Act 1985 or the international list of protected species (CITES). The relevant license details must be provided for sales of any animal requiring a license under Malaysian law." Does anyone know when this was implemented and if it is true, how do I apply for the license? |

QUOTE(genielee_83 @ Jan 8 2012, 06:24 PM) polypterus is gentle species? Polys generally get along with any fish (as long as they are bigger than their mouth), plus they look really elegant when they swim. They're kinda soft though. My lungfish ate up half of my lapradei last year. I want variety yet want 18SG.. i still am memeningkan diri sendiri. Maybe like Laughing Gor toss coin? Wolf fish should be interesting too. |
