Yup, was there last night. There're 2 demo units. It's located at the Harvey Norman exhibition area, not the Maxis outlet.

The demo units were there, but not the retail unit. I was so disappointed to reach there around 9PM. Should have taken leave to get the phone. cry.gif

I don't think it's so much that being full-exclusive is a problem. they're just being incompetent with regard to supplying stores with the actual phone. I've had my g2 for a month and a half now and I'm still watching you guys wait ... now THAT is serious incompetence

I went to Sunway yesterday, and they said stock finished. They claimed people even came from KLCC to Sunway hoping to get this baby.
Today I took half day, so afternoon I went to Alamanda to check out that place. Then I went back hometown, so might as well check out Maxis Seremban. Luckily people there just plain crazy for iPhone, so they 'left' this for me. thumbup.gif

To be honest, I haven't tried the phone yet. Will check out the hinge soon.

Added on December 24, 2010, 6:48 pmOkay now only I notice the hinge a bit "longgar" but I guess it's fine. Maybe I'll just use it when I need to write a long email. For SMS purpose, I think the on-screen keyboard would do just fine. smile.gif

^ glad it's under acceptable limits.

Hrmm it seems CM6.1.1 doesn't recognise the softkeys on my phone. Went back to stock.

the hinge is made of metal .. I seriously doubt it will break unless you use superhuman force on it. the hinge is NOT an issue

I don't think the hinge is metal. It has signs of bring produced by injection moulding. Though I never doubted the durabilitty of the hinge...

Oh yeah. spunk, rooting with adb method is safer than visionary, if you're interested in taking the plunge. :-p Did it and glad I did.

I was reading some stuff online, people are saying it is metal ... and I'm pretty sure you can do injection molding with metal. anyway I don't know, the durability is pretty solid unless you toss your phone around.

I'll look into that thanks smile.gif

Not sure whether its metal or not, but you DEFINATELY can't do injection molding with metal. By mentioning injection molding he was referring to plastic smile.gif

Some sites say it's plastic, some say it's metal. doesn't feel cold to the touch (at least mine) though.

all rite, it's normal for stuffs today to be made of plastic. plastic also has level of toughness and durability.

the most important thing is, does the hinge on desire z is loose that looks like a defect?

i dunno how many times i've mentioned this, but HTC specifically replied to SlashGear that the stiffness of the spring in the hinge was a design intent.

http://www.slashgear.com/htc-desire-z-review-02111799/

A flawed design? Maybe, but definitely not something they are going to change. There're tutorials in XDA about taking the hinge apart and stiffening the spring, if you're interested :-)

Anyway, for normal ppl normally you'll hold like this:

but you'll adapt to hold it like this:

then the hinge won't have problem:

And normally ppl don't play with their phone while having it inclined to the vertical like that. It hurts the eye.

The hinge won't open without external forces that easily one.
