Hell yeah! Finally the call for a quality GSM Android phone with physical keyboard is ANSWERED!
Been tailing this badboy since it peeked its head out of T-Mobile's stash as the G2.

Basically it is same as the G2, with only one major difference. The G2 is vanilla Android, meaning no HTC Sense UI, but the Desire Z has HTC Sense UI.

Specs:

Qualcomm MSM 7230 800 MHz processor with Adreno 205 GPU (benchmark shows it beating the older 1ghz snapdragon in every way!)
GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
HSDPA 1900 / 2100
480 x 800 pixels, 3.7 inches
1.5 GB ROM; 512 MB RAM
Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
5 MP, 2592х1944 pixels, autofocus, LED flash
720p video recording
Stereo FM radio with RDS
GPS
Aluminum features (not unibody) with metal hinge

Will it be more expensive than Desire? I don't see any advantage in terms of specs when comparing to the Desire other than the keyboard and its bad ass look.

Interesting material... I would actually love to see a similar design with aluminum body, but without the physical keyboard tongue.gif

I know you're going to say Legend but the spec is too low for modern smartphones now

the Desire uses the previous 1ghz snapdragon.. the Desire Z has a much more better performance even it is clocked lower and uses less power indeed.. My guess that it would be slightly higher abit compared to Desire's RRP when it is launched

With the new processor and the GPU plus physical keyboard, definitely would be a good game console too..

It should be more expensive since it has a keyboard. Perhaps around Touch Pro 2 pricing?
Spec wise, the biggest difference is the Processor/Keyboard. Its based on the 45nm architecture, which uses less power, and it has the Adreno 205 GPU, which is 3-4 times faster than the older Desire. Based on early benchmark, it GPU is just slightly slower than the Galaxy S. We all know the old Desire cant hold up nuts against even the old Milestone when it comes to 3D games, what more to the Iphone 3GS, or Galaxy S. This new Desire will up the ante, and finally put it up against those heavyweights.

If you want the alu unibody without the keyboard you can consider the HTC Desire HD smile.gif. 1Ghz snapdragon 45nm with Adreno 205 =D.

hate to say it, but I have to agree with you. These smartphones Ghz just keep climbing.

There were days where 300mhz was like 1ghz to us.

And now those guys are comming out with 1.5Ghz dual core....

Sometimes, I look at my computer and say, "man, one day this phone's successor might have 4Ghz..."
*
This 800mhz overall is faster than the older 1Ghz snapdragon seen on the old Desire smile.gif. Some speculate that it can be overclocked to 800mhz.
But well if you want a 1.2Ghz snapdragon phone, you can wait for the HTC Verizon world phone. It has a keyboard too, but it most probably will be only for Verizon, so you might need to purchase it overseas or via AP.

The Legend actually really look pretty damn good. One of the best looking Android phone. Maybe HTC can do like Proton, change the specs, use a similar design and push out as a new product.

If this 800Mhz is better than Desire's Snapdragon, then I suppose the Desire HD's processor is far greater despite being at the same clock speed?

The Desire HD is using 1Ghz compared to the desire z's 800mhz. Both have the Adreno 205 =D

If I were to believe the Proc is more optimized than the older proc we're used to see and thus can actually deliver better performance. As we all know, clock speed doesn't mean anything. It's all about the design of the proc itself and it seems to be better than the 1Ghz Snapdragon with higher clock speed and more power consumption.
