benny, u mean if we change rom, we need to just replace the android folder, and keep all others so that all data in the previous rom is still there after we change rom?

i did that from mattc to mdeejay, but em.. i dont get all the previous data, and installed apps. for example messages.

any advise? thanks
*
NO. You misunderstood me. What I meant is changing another Android rom is just replacing the old Android folder on card with the new Android folder extracted out from the new rom file. All your apps and personal data is actually in the data.img file but you cannot just copy it over to another different rom Android folder. If you are following the revision of roms in a fix cook, some cooks allows you to keep your existing data by just replacing the system.ext2 file in the Android folder. Example, recently I upgraded my MIUI Beta 4 to Beta 5 - what I did was just replace the system.ext2 file - very easy , no need to go thro process of reinstall. Reboot phone and the new rom installed and all my data/themes/homescreen setups etc etc remain as before

You can always use Titanium Backup or MyBackupPRO ( use the paid versions ) and it is very easy to restore not only the apps but all your data plus apps settings. Just take less than 5 minutes to do it after you install a new rom. No need waste time reinstall apps one by one , follow by your email, RSS. tweeter , SMS, MMS ete etc settings. These 2 software will take care ALL your needs to restore all your apps/data/settings etc etc.

TIP : IF you are concerned about just saving SMS , use SMS Backup and Restore : 100 % perfect to save and restore SMS - best part it is FREE .

Best part I like this software your SMS will not be overwritten by newer SMS. Example I have 100 SMS in my HD2. I also have another Android phone, recently the Dell Streak, say I have 20 SMS. So if I want a full set of SMS in only either phone, what I did I just copy the SMS backup file which is in SMS Backup Restore folder on card ) over to the same folder on HD2. Then I launch the app in HD2 and choose to restore the Dell file. Now I have 120 SMS of both phones in my HD2 . Unlike other backup /restore apps this app PERFECTLY 100 % restore all IN and SENT SMS

hey guys, any of you actually using the hyperdroid v1.6 and know how to adjust the apps size back to full screen?

I did as the instruction on the developer page - untick compatibility mode @ spare parts. Though the apps returned to full screen but it seems like I need to calibrate the screen before I can actually use it. buttons wouldnt work unless i touch slightly to the left on the screen.

Anyone any idea? I tried reinstalling the android but it doesnt work.
*
I never try this rom . What do you mean fullscreen ? You mean you want the icons size back to original size ? The instruction to do this is in the first post of the rom - or you can check the startup.txt and just edit the font size figure from 180 to 240

Check your extracted rom file - this file should be inside the Android folder, as I have seen and use it in ver 1.5

Hi i have some questions

1) After i HSPL my phone, will my original ROM still be in there?

2) If i want to install custom winmo rom, should i upgrade my radio before or after installing the custom rom?

Thanks
*
YES . Your rom is INTACT including all your data/programs etc

Yes, preferably NOT compulsory. Changing radio will NOT erase any data . Upgrading any rom including official will ERASE all your installed programs and data

*
Why dont you use google maps brut ver 16. I find it very good. I navigate successfully using it in KL and Spore. It is like Mapking with added instructions on top of map and voice assisted. OR you can try Papago X5 equally good can match Garmin

Mdeejay eVo Sense v1.0 warm , midie you dont have problem when dial out? when i dial out sure will add M011 on the front. how to overcome it. thank
*
Look inside your extracted rom file - there should be a file " com.android.phone-preferences.xml".
Use a file explorer - ES File explorer ( in menu you can find it , if not download from market ) and in settings - select Root function.
Access your SD card and go right up into the hidden partitions /data/data/com.android.phone/shared_prefs : replace the com.android.phone-preferences.xml with the file you extracted out from the rom file.
AFter replace file, settings - unselect back root function
Reboot phone
You will no longer see the extra numbers infront

What do you mean struggling ??Download the latest brut version 16 . It works seamlessly well - no need to do any special settings. Just launch and ready to go

Download Papgo X5 from the forum lowyat - browswe there and find your download link : http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1215073

Battery life on Android is higher by 10 to 20 % depending on your usage. But it is worth it as the android experience is much better than WMobile.

I NEVER use live wallpaper at all even on my other Android phones. These are just gimmicks - it will not only use up battery also consume a lot of your memory. For showing off OK not practical

Does brut takes up data connection? i dont have data on my phone.

Yes google maps brut need data connection but the amount downloaded is very small. For X5, download the latest Malfree maps - you basically sharing same maps even you use Garmin

Hi any Titanium Backup user here?

Im using Donate version, just a simple question here.

Do i have to reinstall every app (as i understand it only backup my app settings not the app itself).
*
I am using paid version too
you can select to restore fully or partially. All apps will be
restore inclusive of your data and settings
please refer post 205 this thread on some my comments

Go to batch you can see a large variety of options how you can save and restore

We have good local support for titanium backup at http://forum.legendroid.com/index.php . pop over there to raise any queries the developer himself will reply all your queries

QUOTE(ChiaKhai @ Oct 9 2010, 12:36 AM)
ok.. this time i really have a problem.. lol.. all android builds on HD2 should have its app installed on SD card right. In other words, the SD card should be the OS's main memory. Am I right?

using FroyoStone Sense now, amazingly, after I did titanium backup restore, it shows (storage low). and the restore did not finish completely, i tried several times to restore (had 181 app+system, and 140 was left out un-restored)

how can this be? im a bit confused. lol. i have 6GB+ free space on my phone. Do i need to tweak or adjust anything on my build? thx..

downloading ! thx for sharing ! =D
Please let me know how you fix the dialing issue on the EVO based ROMS ok~ hehe
*
Read post 221 here to fix dialing issue

When you install android on phone, a hidden partition is created where your data is stored. The size depending on the rom cooks varies from 512 Mb to 2 GB. Some roms allow you to change this by just simply editing the startup.txt file. Check your rom version and read again the rom details whether you can do such.

Probably the hidden partition size is insufficient. I have most 30 apps only.

If your rom do not allow you to increase your best choice is to change to a rom that sets at least 1 gb or allow you to change the partition size

thx! fixed it. now lets hope battery life is as good as froyostone =)

@benny thanks for the info! now i know what data.img means.. LOL.  froyostone has only 256mb for a fast boot. or optional 1GB if u delete the 256mb data.img.
*
Want to increase the data.img size yourself ( if the rom do not provide you to edit startup.txt ). Just do it yourself and you do not mind the challenge of doing so, this is the manual way to do it - from terminal , execute the commands

[HOW-TO] Increase the size of data.img for more "Device" storage: http: //forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=737826

Snapshot :

--------------------------------------------(Running Linux)----------------------------------------------

Procedure:
1. UnZip Android or your present data.img file to your Home Folder. Or a folder of your liking (or even on your memory card!), just remember to cd before you do the following:
2. Open Terminal and Copy&Paste (Ctrl+C, Ctrl+Shift+V) this:
Code:
dd if=/dev/zero bs=1M count=XXX >> data.img
where XXX is the amount, in MB, by which data.img should be increased by.
My filesize started out as 256MB and I wanted a total of 512MB. That would mean I needed a extra 256MB, so I executed this:
Code:
dd if=/dev/zero bs=1M count=256 >> data.img
3. Run a file system check and file system resizer
Code:
e2fsck -f data.img
resize2fs data.img
e2fsck -f data.img
if prompted, press "y" for "yes"

4. Copy all of the Android files onto your SD card, put it into your phone, and run CLRCAD.exe and HARET.exe!

Wira : if the shop want to charge you is OK since is business to them BUT they are dishonest telling you lies. THey should be honest saying the RM 100 is service fee.

I have received several PM's asking me to do and they were willing to pay me but in all cases I advised them just follow my guidelines I have given. It is not difficult, just need some reading up, and care

PDA Gadzet is a reputed seller and I am really suprised. Next time you go there, you should talk to the boss about this. I believe is his staff's mistake or ignorance telling customers such reasons

Most of us at this thread do it ourself. Save the RM 100 and buy yourself some nice stuffs instead tocomplement your phone. RM 100 can have up to 20 meals nasi kandang

Just PM me or post here any issues/difficulty you face

First of all did you download the correct version - there are different versions for different processor . You run 3G watchdog as a WIDGET not execute it from menu.

After you have set it as widget, tap on it - go to Settings and set your requirements

hi guys, new hd2 user

benny, gotta give a big kudos to you for ur front page guides..i got everything up and running without much hiccups...currently running on
Miri HD2 WM6.5 (21916) ROM :: V 19.1 + FroyoStone Sense - Version 3.1 .. however quadrant shows my device is only at 955...which is a far cry from your 1346..what could i have done wrong? hmm...but so far the device is running as i hoped..if not better...i'm quite happy with the results..

btw i'm on a sandisk class 2 4gb... could it be the reason why i'm hitting such low scores?
*
Great. Do not fret too much about the Quadrant scores. I have come to realize it is more practical to feel the performance by one's experience rather than basing on these figures.
My Samsung Galaxy S scores an amazing 2150 but loses out in performance even to my Dell Streak ( 876 ) , HD2 ( latest MIUI 1710 ) and previous Nexus ( 1515 )

The speed of the SD class will affect especially on issues of sometimes screen freeze ; this is because the android rom is executed from the card. So speed of read-wrire access will affect it. Even on actual Android phones that runs on Froyo v2.2 Google recommend a class 6 card. Personally I dont see much difference yet so far between class 4 and class 6 ( both I use ) but I do believe a class 2 could be too slow

Ahbeng you need to hard reset not soft reset. I suggest you do this so you can start fresh and not use all previous settings. On windows mobile go to settings/all settings/clear storage
If you want to do android port see post 1 this thread. Format card accordingly according to post 1 guide
