Hello guys, would appreciate some advice here. Am thinking of switching to Android. Should I get an actual Android phone like the Desire or the upcoming Desire HD, or get the cheaper HD2 that also boots into the Android OS?

My concern is whether the HD2 can actually run Android stably. I've been reading the XDA Developers forum but it's only raising more questions. Perhaps your experience can help me out here? I really like the build of HD2. I'm also familiar with WM6.5 since I've used it before.

Thanks in advance! smile.gif

This is my experience, hope it helps you to make a right choice.

I converted my HD2 to Android and I must say I am very happy. I am currently using Mdeejay Desire HD v3.7 with Hastarin r8. the result is really good, no hang, no freeze, no music shuttering, internet is seemingly faster than other Hastarin's Kernels (I tried many of his build and find v3.7 is the best).

I compared by HD2-Android with SGS and in my opinion SCS is laggy.

I also compare my with Desire, the experience is about the same (both are HTC Sense), but I find HD2-Android is more responsive. This is base on Hastarin 7.7.

Having say that, I suggest to get class 6 SD class if you decide on HD2-Android.

In case you are interested on WM7, I tried it at Singtel shop during the weekend and I am not impress. If you like playing game on phone, then WP7 could be a good consideration. Having say that, my experience with short and my opinion may not be correct. It is best you try it out at StarHub and Singtel shop (they only hv LG model).

Note: There is no Camera on Desire HD on HD2. Dev is still working in it.

HD2 for Android is for users who want some challenge. If you can spend more money than go for dedicate Android devices it for better stabilty.

HD2 capable Android alike HTC devices like Evo 4G and somehow Desire HD due monstrous screen size. Internal Snapdragon processor is no much different at all. Battery usage is reasonble good and near to winmo daily usage.

Although Winmo development quite shrinking, they what I need. But thx to XDAgeeks which allow us to getting use with android. Development is very hot compare to common some Android devices itself.

----------added-----------

We Have Nexus and Evo base rom which has fully function. Im now using MDJ EVo Sense v. 2.3 rEVOlution, almost perfect to original 4G tongue.gif

I have been on android for my hd2 since mid aug. In the last 2.5 months I have been following the rom development. I have also lost count of the number of roms I have tested. Since mid sept I would say most android roms are stable and I have openly endorsed that the hd2 can be a daily android phone 99.99%.

If you were to read the forums at xda or even here , you will see differing opinions. You even see same trend in hd2 cooked windows rom, which I have also tested many of them. Some will say they have problem with A while others will say they have no such issue with A but with B , etc etc. The list of issues and bugs as reported is never ending. As for me I have zero complains as what I need it performs flawlessly. Other people might be facing specific issues due to their different requirements. These are my daily needs: browser, email, rss , tweeter, facebook, weather, ebook, audible books, wifi thether sometimes, no games

I have rated the hd2 on android a score of 8 to 9 versus 10 for nexus and 5 for galaxy s and 8.5 for Dell streak

I hope this help you. But given a choice I will buy a actual android phone. The present htc desire is a great choice

I'm been following this thread carefully. I'm very tempted to by hd2 as my 1st android phone. Price is one factor, i can get sub Rm 2000 for a new hd2 plus i can tinker this phone to my need i dont think any other phone offer more roms development other than HD2. of course i still have to wait for the DHD or the HD7. hoping it will effect the HD2 price a bit. OR do any of you want to sell your hd2 for under RM1000 smile.gif ?

The going rate for used hd2 is around RM 1200 to rm 1300. Your only possible choice of getting below 1K are those who recently bought the AP sets for 1.5 to 1.6k but is also unlikely they will be selling unless they do not know how to best use it. Just look around at garage sales, they could be such new AP purchased sellers

Thank you, guys. Really appreciate your fast response. Your experience and advice really helped.
WP7 is still premature, in my opinion. I'm also not fond of the interface.

I really dig Android. I also like the idea of being able to play with different ROMs on HD2.

I think I would give HD2 a go. smile.gif

Added on November 1, 2010, 1:50 pmPlease bear with me. I have one more question that has been bugging me.

Is there a stable Android Sense ROM that goes well with the stock WM ROM on HD2?

TQ

Recent Sense rom is stable, and some of them has nice smooth fluid animation like a real android devices.
Incase youre displease with HD2 android performance, just sell it back coz it has more value than other winmo phones, nod.gif

There are few methods to upgrade the Kernel. You can do a search in xda forum. However, this is what I am using and may not be the best method....(you can use ES explorer or any file manager software as long as you see the files/folder as mentioned below)

- USB link to PC and select Disk Drive

- copy the whole extracted folder to sdcard (the folder name is hastarin_r8). I create a folder in sdcard to store the kernel folder.

- disconnect the USB

- using root explorer, copy the zImage from hastarin_r8 folder to Android folder.
Ie
From: /sdcard/Android Kernel/hastarin_r8/zImage
To: /sdcard/Android/
(replace the zImage file)

- copy the bcm4329.ko and tun.ko from hastarin_r8 to
ie
From: /sdcard/Android Kernel/hastarin_r8/root/system/lib/modules/ bcm4329.ko and tun.ko
To: /system//lib/modules/
(replace the bcm4329.ko and tun.ko, you have to copy and paste the file one by one)

- Power off the phone and restart

No apps will ever be installed in phone memory. It all goes to sd. I think you are confused , the phone memory is the sd memory. Where you have this idea it goes to phone memory?
