Not necessarily, I see legacy hardware using newer implementations of android. It depends mostly on how well the OS is implemented, and with the number of hackers around with custom rom development + step by step guides, it's up to the user to maximise the hardware and the experience.

Huawei a reputable company? Hmmm hmm.gif

Yes, Huawei is a reputable company. They are starting to pick up in handset business, but not their core business yet... Same like what Ericsson were 10 years back....or maybe more.

Hi all Shi Fu,

thanks for all the input all after read all the advise, i would like to point out my reason to choose smartphone, mayb you guys can share with me also,

1) need to check email easily , mostly for company email and gmail.
2) facebook is not a must for me anyway. as last time i open facebook was jsut to play games, now already stop cause boring already,
3)mayb will install 4-5 popular games inside andriod phone jsut for fun while windows shopping with my wife while she do her own stuff and at least i got something to do.
4) would like to install some other useful application from time to time if there is a need.....
5) so i guess i might install max 10-15 application (is that too much?) and hopefully it wont hang at all. of cos i will always close background app when i not using ( I already hv such practice using WinMO and n97 but it still hang !)
6) a responsive gps with updated map.at least i don need to invest Garmin.

Any idea ?

For your criteria:

1. Yes, the integrated Gmail app is a very good email program, plus there is also K9 Mail.

2. There's a FB app.

3. There's quite a number of game apps on the Marketplace.

4. There's a lot of apps on the Marketplace.

5. With Android 2.2 Froyo, you can installed any number of apps thanks to the SD card integration. Android never hangs, just an occasional slow down when jumping from app to app.

6. This is where Android is lacking. Google Maps doesn't have turn by turn instructions like Garmin, plus the app requires constant internet connection. There's a few other alternatives though of which none of them I recommend.

Iphone is a joke. Apple gives out a new phone with a new OS frequently, and you have to buy the new phone to use the new OS. If you're using android, you just have to buy the phone once, and you can always upgrade to a newer OS for free. Opensource ftw!

Hoho... I wonder how much of this is true... Hero from 1.6>2.1 and it took a year... not going to get Froyo also.

Apple 3G, a 2 years old phone still getting I OS4...

That is entirely HTC's fault for not releasing 2.2 on the hero, mainly due to marketing reasons.
But you can install custom froyo roms on the hero, no?

Just a simple google search turned this up: http://hero-roms.blogspot.com/

The hardware supports it, and as I mentioned earlier, it's really up to the user to do a bit of searching to maximise the hardware potential.

I think what that poster meant was that the open source community will always develop roms for it and provide more up to date OS versions for android phones as long as there are people using the hardware.

i believe iphone also will hang if u install a lot of stuff especially if u jailbreak it some more. so far my android phone got hang but usually is because i do some silly stuff during development of my apps causing it to hang. but so far NEVEr encounter it hanging during phone calls, sms, etc.

1. No flash support
2. Bluetooth file transfer?
3. Browser download limitation?

Still not perfect, but great device no doubt.
